Postgame 2/24: Wins are fun, I'd almost forgotten

It was good to see the Philadelphia Flyers remembered they have to score more goals than their opponents, and they recognized the best way to do that is by taking considerably more shots. Well, on Wednesday night, the Flyers took a season-high 39 shots on goal en route to a 4-3 win over the New York Rangers, restoring peace and balance to the universe and setting themselves on a course towards the playoffs.  Claude Giroux announced his return to the lineup with authority, picking up 3 assists, registering 8 shots on goal and winning 73% of his faceoffs, while Erik Gustafsson and Shayne Gostisbehere each notched their first goals of the season. Other stuff happened- JVR scored, so did Kevin Hayes. Chris Kreider accounted for all the Rangers' offense, scoring a hat trick- the second Philly has allowed in as many games. Brian Elliott was good enough to get the win. Hockey was played, etc.  Anyway, click play and listen to the postgame. Then listen to it on another device, too.  Learn more about your ad choices. Postgame 2/21: More like Tah-NO

David Pastrnak is freakin' ridiculous. Like... damn, yo. Pasta netted another hat trick against, his second triple tally game against the Philadelphia Flyers this month, en route to a 7-3 victory in the Lake Tahoe outdoor game on Sunday night. Philly is now 0-3-2 against the best team in the division in 2021, and Carter Hart has surrendered 20 goals in his four starts against the B's. That is... not good. Of course, the Flyers have yet to be at full strength when lining up against Boston, but all the excuses in the world don't make up for the three goals potted by Charlie Coyle, Trent Frederic, and Nick Ritchie in about a minute-and-a-half late in the second period. That's it, I'm done summarizing. You saw the game. Now, listen to the postgame. For real. Click play. Now. Learn more about your ad choices. Postgame 2/18: Sunday should be... fun?

Production disclaimer: yes, I realize the audio is shaky in some spots. I forgot to record the broadcast separately so I had to take the audio from the Twitch recording, which apparently wasn't that great. My apologies. It's mostly fine. Without Claude Giroux, Jake Voracek, Scott Laughton, Oskar Lindblom, Travis Konecny, or Justin Braun the Philadelphia Flyers earned a point in a comeback shootout loss to a divisional rival. Of course, that rival was the lowly New York Rangers, the Flyers took a 1-0 lead a minute into the game and went 0/5 on the power play, but I'm choosing to look at the good. Well, that was a lie. Philly looked liked they were being defended by Tortorella's Rangers in the 2014 playoffs again, seeing 27 of their shot attempts blocked. The orange and black didn't help their cause much, missing the net on another 11 attempts. If a couple more of those reach the crease, perhaps while on the power play, this is a regulation win for the Fly Guys. It was not to be, however. Despite some late-game heroics by Joel Farabee, whose seventh goal of the season sent the game to overtime and tied him for the team lead with James van Riemsdyk, and a big penalty kill in the extra frame, the outcome was ultimately disappointment, as Kaapo Kakko and Artemi Panarin each beat Carter Hart in the shootout, while only Sean Couturier was able to solve Alexandar Georgiev, meaning the final standings point went to the Blueshirts. Ok, there's your summary and it's long enough so the story shows up in search results, now listen to the postgame. Learn more about your ad choices. Checking out the competition: The Rangers are bad!

New friend of the pod Eleni of The Ice Garden joined us on incredibly short notice for a rather excellent conversation about the current state of the New York Rangers. Spoiler alert: no one can score, no one is shooting, and they have approximately 1.34 NHL defensemen at the moment. Should be a fun game! Learn more about your ad choices. Checking out the competition: The biggest enemy of them all

There are no games, which means there is no competition. And with Oskar Lindblom and Scott Laughton added to the protocol today, things for the Flyers seem to be getting worse, not better. Since we didn't get to talk about the Devils games earlier this week, John Fischer of All About The Jersey hops on to discuss the mess our teams find themselves in. Learn more about your ad choices.
