In April 2003, Air Force Colonel Philip Shue died in a violent car crash when his vehicle struck trees alongside a Texas interstate highway. After a year-long investigation, all the agencies involved -- the Air Force, and both local and state police -- agreed that Col. Shue had suffered a psychological breakdown and died by suicide. However, Tracy Shue, his widow, was adamant that her husband had been abducted and tortured, and then somehow broken free. “48 Hours" correspondent Troy Roberts reports. In April 1995, Jim came home from work and found Vickie had been shot to death. Murder on his Mind
In April 2005, Stephen Stanko murdered his girlfriend Laura Ling, and then raped and stabbed her daughter. Shortly afterwards, he killed a friend, Henry Turner. At his trial for Laura's murder, Stephen's lawyer called on medical experts who claimed that PET scan images of his brain revealed that he was born with a brain defect that made him psychopathic and, on occasion, temporarily insane. “48 Hours" correspondent Troy Roberts reports.
