Making Safe and Clean Water Available to the World.

This is the ABQ Business Podcast with your host Jason Rigby. Each week we interview leading business leaders to inspire the vision and the spirit that is in every entrepreneur. We discuss strengths, weakness, strategies, systems and the problems we can all solve together to fulfill a shared vision of a new future for Small Business. Amazing Inventor Rodney Herrington from Albuquerque. He owns multiple Businesses and is solving a world problem!!! Clean Water! Aqua Research LLC develops innovative water treatment technologies that meet the extreme needs within developing countries and provides sustainable water purification to outdoor enthusiasts, travelers, emergency preppers, first responders, Peace Corps, and the military. Why We Need Sustainable Water Purification Solutions The H2gO Purifier was designed for hikers and campers, travelers, missionaries, Peace Corps volunteers, first responders, disaster relief, and emergency kits. However, our ultimate dream is to provide cost-effective and sustainable water treatment to the people who need it most – those with no access to safe water. Our goal is to help reduce the devastating impact of unsafe water, both physical and financial: 3.3 million people die each year from water-related health problems. [1] Half the hospital beds in the poorest countries are filled with patients with water-related diseases. [2] Women in developing countries walk an average of 3.7 miles to get water, then often carry 50 lbs or more of water on their backs. [1] Poor people living in the slums often pay 5-10 times more for water than wealthy people living in the same city. [3] H2gO is a truly sustainable option for emerging countries, offering no maintenance cost or resupply logistics. The purifier costs $0.50 per YEAR for salt to operate and provide a family 40 liters (10 gallons) of safe water per DAY. It uses a rechargeable cell phone type battery for power and can be recharged by the onboard solar panel or micro USB port – re-charged by just about any cell phone charger, but comes with its own charger. The device is available via retail outlets for about $120 but we discount to qualified non-government organizations (NGOs) to less than $50. Our STREAM system is designed to treat up to 240,000 liters (60,000 gallons per day) for hospitals, orphanages, schools, and small communities in both normal and disaster settings. The STREAM operates on a variety of power sources including 110/220 VAC, and 12 volts DC from a car battery or solar panel. The unit is very robust and comes in a hard plastic waterproof case about the size of a briefcase. Videos of the device are shown on our videos page. By being part of the solution to provide safe water to families in developing nations, we can help people around the world realize their potential: [4] Household water disinfection is the best way to reduce diarrhea and can pay back up to $60 for every $1 invested. Access to safe drinking water and sanitation worldwide would save health agencies $14 billion per year and individuals $680 million. There would be 640 million more productive working days per year, 544 million more school attendance days, and 3 billion more healthy days for children under 5, together representing productivity gains of $19.8 billion a year. Smaller Teams are better than Larger Teams Patrick Collison has a great list of people quickly accomplishing ambitious things. Inspired by that, I created a page of impressive things accomplished by small teams. Instagram had 13 employees when they were acquired by Facebook for $1 billion. They had 30 millions users at the time. Source Mojang (the company behind Minecraft) had 37 employees when they were acquired by Microsoft for $2.5 billion. At that time, Mojang had revenue of about $290 million annually with profits of over $100 million. Source WhatsApp had 55 employees when they were acquired by Facebook for $19 billion. Source Notion has raised money at a $2 billion valuation with under 50 employees. Source BuiltWith generates $14 million/year with a single employee. Source (an investor in the business) The Gartman Letter had a single employee and was rumored to be doing $25M/year Kylie Jenner sold a 51% stake in the Kylie Cosmetics for $600 million with just seven full-time and five part-time employees. Source Craigslist generates around $1 billion/year with about 50 employees. Source Plenty of Fish sold for $575 million with 75 employees. Source Liberty Media had 16 employees and was worth multi-billions in the 90s. Source Joe Rogan is making between $30-$50 million/year with a handful of employees. Helping Dogs, Helping Heroes Interview with Paws and Stripes Founder/CEO Lindsey Kay

About Paws and Stripes: Paws and Stripes was founded in Rio Rancho in 2010 by Lindsey Kay. Lindsey was motivated by her passion for dogs, love of her country and those who have sacrificed so much to protect it. A veteran family member of Lindsey's suffering from PTSD and TBI motivated her to research multiple organizations, but was unable to pay for service dogs due to the high cost. This inspired the inception of an organization dedicated to providing service dogs at no cost to veterans in order to fill this critical unmet need for veterans. In 2010, Paws and Stripes graduated their first team. By 2012, Paws and Stripes officially integrated a mental health component to its training programs. Since inception almost 10 years ago, Paws and Stripes has served veterans, rescued and rehabilitated shelter dogs as service dogs and refined its mental health programming. In the early days, Paws and Stripes received press and recognition for the unique and much needed programming from Time Magazine, Bark Magazine, Lisa Ling's Our America, Stephen Colbert's Dream Fund, and Tractor Supply Magazine in addition to presenting internationally in Croatia and nationally in New York and at Yale University. In 2014, A&E's docu-series, Dogs of War, featured 5 episodes about Paws and Stripes. In 2017, Paws and Stripes officially moved into a new facility, a generous donation to further its mission in Albuquerque. How To Donate: You as a business can give here I personally also give through Amazon Smile to Paws and Stripes every purchase you do with Amazon then they will donate to them (and it costs you nothing) read more here Please go to www.abqpodcast.com where you can get show notes, resources ,and links to everything we talked about today to help you navigate your journey as an entrepreneur and business owner in ABQ. We discuss strengths, weakness, strategies, systems and the problems we can all solve together to fulfill a shared vision of a new future for Small Business. The 2nd Agreement Don't take anything personally - Nothing others do is because of you. What others say and do is a projection of their own reality, their own dream. When you are immune to the opinions and actions of others, you won't be the victim of needless suffering. The Four Agreements: A Practical Guide to Personal Freedom is a self-help book by bestselling author Don Miguel Ruiz with Janet Mills.
