Looking for a Little Grace: Author and FOX News Anchor Dana Perino

A passion for news was instilled in Dana Perino from a young age. As a little girl growing up in Wyoming and Colorado, her dad expected her to choose two articles a day from the local paper to discuss over the family dinner. The emphasis on current events paid off as Dana moved to Washington, D.C. to work in politics, eventually leading to her appointment as the White House Press Secretary under George W. Bush. Now a veteran FOX News anchor and accomplished author, Dana is sharing the advice she learned as a young woman in her forthcoming book, Everything Will Be Okay – Life Lessons for Young Women. The key takeaway? Letting worry fall by the wayside and learning resilience along the path. Thanks for listening! Believe in Your Brilliance: Danyel Surrency Jones of POWERHANDZ

This episode is sponsored by Capital One Business. Some people feel the entrepreneurial itch from a young age and dive in headfirst as soon as they can create something to sell. Others may feel its constant, subtle pull for years while they work for someone else, only giving in once the pain of an unsatisfying job finally outweighs the fear of doing their own thing. Danyel Surrency Jones was quite comfortable in her executive position at a Fortune 500 company, but being told repeatedly that she was “too innovative” finally pushed her past her own discomfort, helped her focus on the skills she had built and how she could apply them to any field. In co-founding POWERHANDZ, an athletic training and rehabilitation product tech company, Danyel is pursuing her life’s goal to improve the lives of others by serving local and global communities, improving health and wellness for all people by bridging the gap in disparities, and ensuring that the company will never have to choose between doing good and turning a profit. Embracing her truth as her superpower, Danyel is living proof that when you follow your intuition you can live your dreams, support yourself and help others simultaneously! Thanks for listening! Out of Your Head and Onto the Page: Author and NY Times Editor Jessica Bennett

Growing up as the child of liberal parents in Seattle, Jessica Bennett may have spent her formative years steeped in a culture of feminism, but she didn’t feel the need to claim the title of feminist until she was faced with the tangible gender disparities that arose during her first job as a staff writer at Newsweek in New York. Spurred by inexcusable evidence of wage discrepancy and story stealing, Jessica banded with other women in the company, only to discover Newsweek’s 40+ year history of discrimination against women. Finding her niche in mission-driven journalism, Jessica has authored two books, received awards for her coverage of the LGBTQ+ community, been named the first ever gender editor of The New York Times, and launched numerous projects on gender politics and cultural trends. Still working to manage the demon known as “imposter syndrome” despite her many accolades, Jessica continues in her mission to bring change into the spaces that are not yet considered safe for women and marginalized communities. The Art & Importance of Patience: Bobbi Brown

It seems crazy to think that there was a time when entrepreneur, creatrix and makeup maven Bobbi Brown didn’t know what she wanted to do with her life, but like many young people it took some coaxing to decide on a career path. However, once she realized her passion lay in makeup artistry, there was no looking back. Working as a freelance artist in NYC, Bobbi was unimpressed with the popular color palettes at the time, preferring to mix her own shades. Credited with popularizing the “natural” makeup look, Bobbi’s creativity led to her own makeup line, which then paved the way for a multitude of businesses to follow. This Renaissance woman has written numerous books, owns a hotel, and has launched several wellness and makeup brands since her namesake line first debuted, all the while carving out time for herself and her family and learning the art of patience along the way. Make Your Life Delicious: Author, Chef and TV Personality Daphne Oz

Daphne Oz spent her formative years cooking by her grandmother’s side, soaking up recipes, techniques and family gatherings around the kitchen. It made sense, then, that her first book, written while she was still in college, was about healthy eating. While that paved the way for her to join the culinary-centered talk show, The Chew, Daphne still didn’t have any formal training, a fact she remedied by attending culinary school despite an already-successful stint on a cooking show. Daphne continues to stir her entrepreneurial spirit as co-host of the Mom Brain Podcast. As a business owner and mother of four, it may seem as though she is doing the impossible. The key, she says, is learning to ask for help where you need it and to show up as your most authentic self, no matter what others have to say about it! Thanks for listening!
