As a young professional working in politics, media booking and corporate communications, Lauren Wesley Wilson was dismayed to see a glaring lack of people of color in leadership roles. What started as a series of luncheons to bring together women of color in communications planted the seed for what would become ColorComm, Inc., the umbrella company that now oversees multiple businesses aimed at advancing the careers of women and men of color in the fields of media, marketing, advertising and digital communications.
An award winning diversity and inclusion strategist, Lauren shares the ways in which she sought mentors, relentlessly researched and asked for help in developing what is now the nation’s leading platform dedicated to increasing diversity and attaining leadership roles for women of color. Failure is the First Attempt in Learning: Courtney Rich of Cake by Courtney
When Courtney Rich was leafing through Bon Appétit magazine, looking for a cake to make for her son’s first birthday, she didn’t realize that an afternoon spent in the kitchen would open the door to a whole new world. That first cake may not have been perfect, but the excitement that Courtney felt at trying something new, and the subsequent experimentation, led to praise from friends and family that eventually inspired her to leave her job in media and build a business around her newfound joy of baking.
Dealing with waves of anxiety and depression throughout the years, Courtney found that the peace and creativity she felt when exploring new ideas in the kitchen helped to calm some of those feelings. In addition to supporting her state of mind, Courtney’s passion for creating recipes has fueled not only the Cake by Courtney blog, but also a YouTube channel, podcast, classes, product line and soon-to-be published cookbook.

We’ve got to get women feeling more comfortable in taking risks! Whether it’s talking openly about money, sharing professional goals with the boss, or trying a career change in a new field, if women want to create success, we have to be willing to go confidently in new directions that sometimes might feel a little bit uncomfortable, or even downright scary.
Pam Habner, Head of U.S. Branded Cards for Citi, is doing just that. She has made it her mission to try many different roles across a variety of fields, all with the goal of utilizing her eclectic skillset to one day become an executive. Not only does she do this in support of her own career, but she also facilitates focus groups and mentorships in order to help her employees state (and achieve) their aspirations loudly and proudly. Pam is teaching women to bet on themselves, take risks and have the confidence to try new things, all while overseeing an astounding 35 million happy customers.

Fu*k You, I’m Gonna Be a Millionaire: Rachel Rodgers, Author of We Should All Be Millionaires
Rachel Rodgers knew she wanted to be a lawyer from a young age. However, when a less than positive experience in a white, male-dominated law school led her to start her own firm after graduation, she had no idea that it would be her entrepreneurial skills that would take center stage. When her largely female clientele started asking more about business advice than legal counsel, Rachel knew she was onto something big.
Over the next several years Hello Seven came into being, a marketing, financial and legal service focused on helping women, and especially women of color, increase their income to seven figures annually. Rachel is now sharing her hard-earned knowledge in her new book, We Should All Be Millionaires. Helping women build true wealth by cultivating intention and creating networks with other ambitious women, Rachel is changing the narrative that women should shrink back in order for others to shine.

Fail Every Day: Daniella Pierson of The Newsette
Daniella Pierson is an inspiration, but the 25-year-old founder and CEO of one of the fastest growing media platforms did not always feel like the confident boss she is today. Possibly the next (better) Zuckerberg, Daniella founded The Newsette while still in college at Boston University. She’ll be the first to tell you that she didn’t necessarily love academics, and also that it took time and effort to cultivate the self-assuredness she radiates today.
At BU, Daniella started listening to entrepreneurial podcasts like Superwomen (!) in order to create a daily email newsletter that recaps topics relevant to female professionals. She strives to make every edition a treat, with the purpose of “making women feel like they can kick ass every single day.” 7x-ing their revenue during Covid, Daniella is fast on track for her goal to build the world’s biggest female empowerment company. With the courage to fail a little bit every single day, she is learning from past mistakes and building confidence as a rare gem of a female founder in the male-dominated world of media.

Walk it Off: Resilience and Risk-Taking with Cate Luzio of Luminary
If years in investment banking taught Cate Luzio anything, it’s that big risks equal big rewards. Cate entered the world of finance without any formal training in the subject, and rose to lead thousands of employees in multibillion dollar ventures worldwide. Despite a fantastically successful career, Cate couldn’t picture herself in finance for the rest of her life.
Her desire to make a meaningful impact led Cate instead to form Luminary, a membership-based career and personal growth platform and collaboration hub created to address the systemic challenges impacting women across all industries and sectors. At Luminary, those who are women, women-identifying and allies are invited to create a seat, pull up a chair and support one another in changing careers, starting something new, or advancing on their current trajectory. With a special emphasis on supporting caregivers, women 50+ and people of color, Luminary aims to put more women in the workforce in positions that cultivate happiness, fulfillment and success.

Empowering, Fun & Efficient: Megan Roup of Sculpt Society
You’ll never see “before and after” photos on the The Sculpt Society’s website or Instagram, and that’s a very intentional choice by founder, Megan Roup. A dance-based subscription fitness app, Megan knew from the start that she wanted workouts to be simple, fun and effective, but also rooted in body positivity.
Launched not long before the pandemic began, and quoted by Rebecca as “getting her through the worst of Covid,” Megan also uses her platform with the intention of helping people to feel less alone. She believes that even 10 minutes of fitness each day can help people feel better in body and mind, create connections and help to heal the inner critic.
