TWIRx | Treating Gram-Negative Bacterial Infections with Thomas Lodise, PharmD, PhD

A new, real-world evidence study of patients with Gram-negative infections showed that early intervention with Fetroja® (cefiderocol) significantly reduced in-hospital all-cause mortality. This real-world evidence, drawn from a retrospective analysis of 275 seriously ill patients, emphasizes the critical importance of timely treatment.    The retrospective multicenter observational study showed earlier treatment resulted in a reduction in in-hospital all-cause mortality (IHACM) in patients with Gram-negative infections who previously received other antibiotics, including those with difficult-to-treat pathogens that were resistant to other antibiotics.   Here is a link to the press release with a summary of the results presented by Shionogi at ID Week in October.   We interview Thomas Lodise, PharmD, PhD, Associate Professor, Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, to delve deeper into these results. Dr. Lodise discusses the implications of this study for hospital pharmacists as it sheds light on the potential clinical utility of Fetroja in the treatment of difficult-to-treat adult patients with culture-confirmed Gram-negative infections. Dr. Pattani equips frustrated, stressed professionals with tools to stop feeling fatigued, anxious and hopeless and feel sustained energy, in-control and healthy with her 7 step PATTANI protocol that utilizes diagnostic testing and 1:1 coaching so they can live their best life yet.
Over the past two decades, Dr. Pattani has worked in hospitals and long-term care so she understands that treating the root cause is the only option. As an autoimmune disease educator, Dr. Pattani has helped patients manage weight loss, improve hormone balance, reduce medications and decrease hospitalizations. She has helped over 500 patients in the last 5 years alone and has been a frequent speaker and educator for other medical professionals.
Dr. Pattani has been seen on Forbes, featured in Dallas Voyage Magazine, 2x featured in Authority magazine and has been a repeat radio guest and best-selling author of the book “Unleashing the Storrie Within” can be found on Amazon. RSV Advancements | Pediatric Pharmacist Review

I have been an operations pharmacist at Riley for 7 years and have completed IU Health’s non-traditional pharmacy residency.  In addition to working in the main pharmacy, I rotate providing evening clinical services to our emergency department, cover Peds/PICU and NICU clinical services at IU Health North, and also provide clinical pharmacy services for our maternity patients in the Riley Maternity tower.  Outside of Riley, I am a member of the Pediatric Pharmacy Association and am a peer-reviewer for the Journal of Pediatric Pharmacology and Therapeutics.  Outside of work, my interests include gardening, trying new restaurants, and going to see live comedy shows.
