Digital Transformation of the Mobile Connected Pharmacy | Rx Delivered Now
Apps are now an integral part of our daily micro-moments, with people spending an average of 30 hours per month in them, according to Nielsen
Although these seem like big tech corporations, they enabled smaller businesses to a degree. For instance, local restaurants that would’ve normally closed during the pandemic due to dining restrictions became dependent on delivery clients.
People have mixed feelings about these tech apps - on the one hand, they want to support local community businesses by going to them directly, but on the other hand, they are dependent on these apps to facilitate their life.
Mobile technology has been crucial to every industry, as mobile phones are the first and last tangible step in peoples’ routines. Families are more likely to get a phone before a computer for the household - so mobile optimization has to be up to the standard usability of a desktop.
Our guests:
Dr. Anthony Do PharmD is a Pharmacist, with over a decade in experience working in practice at Kaiser, software engineer and is now CEO and founder of Rx Delivered Now. He earned his doctoral from Western University college of Pharmacy where he was also president of the NCPA chapter.
Dr. Ken Thai PharmD co-founded 986 Pharmacy in July 2014. He is the CEO and serves on its Board of Directors. Dr. Thai earned his Doctoral from USC School of Pharmacy and went on to complete his residency in community pharmacy practice

Dr. Greg Dewey on Retirement, Accomplishments, and Social Entrepreneurship
During his eight-year tenure at Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, Dr. Greg Dewey accomplished many great things. In this episode of Occupation Station Dr. Dewey reflects on The Collaboratory, the Stack Family Center for Biopharmaceutical Education and Training (CBET), and the creation of two student-run pharmacies.
The Collaboratory, a “laboratory for collaboration,” offers services which are delivered to residents in Albany by ACPHS’s Public Health Pharmacy Team and Trinity Alliance’s Wellness Advocates Linking Communities (WALC) team. Programs at The Collaboratory address social justice and social determinants of health with the shared goal of improving population health. CBET is an evolutionary leap in health sciences education and biomanufacturing workforce training. Dr. Dewey is perhaps most proud of the creation of two student-run pharmacies both situated in what would be deemed “pharmacy deserts.” The pharmacies, which are located in Albany and Schenectady, N.Y., are prime examples of social entrepreneurship and are designed to have a lasting impact on the communities they serve, while also helping to develop skills that students will benefit from. Dr. Dewey explains that social entrepreneurship involves being self-sustaining while doing public good.
Because of his relationships with faculty, staff, and students, coupled with the development of these crucial initiatives, Dr. Dewey has found his work at ACPHS to be greatly gratifying. And because of his enormous contributions at ACPHS he will be greatly missed!

Pharmacists Impact on Biosimilar Adoption with special guest Sonia Oskouei, PharmD
As an innovative method to improve the affordability of costly biological therapies, there's new medication products being developed with the needed approval of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for biological products that are “highly similar” (biosimilar) to or interchangeable with traditional drug developed products. Biosimilars are not completely identical to the innovator product because of the large molecular size, complexity and proprietary nature of the manufacturing process, and inherent variability of all biopharmaceuticals.
Dr. Sonia Oskouei, PharmD, BCMAS, DPLA is Vice President of Biosimilars at Cardinal Health. Sonia shares her experiences in the biosimilars sector of drug development and shares how we're entering these new therapeutic areas, with ophthalmology being the latest focus. Sonia explains how we need more information to help build clinical confidence in these agents. So, any type of data or evidence in understanding of the FDA approval pathway and the associated scientific rigor from the FDA is key to helping build clinical confidence.
"Pharmacists are becoming more and more involved in the care team, particularly in oncology and in the health system setting. So, pharmacists often are partnering or leading with physicians to champion the education process associated with biosimilars, and that's multistakeholder education, both physicians, other pure pharmacists, and supporting patients and their journey.
Pharmacists are also strong contributors to biosimilar adoption and management, particularly in the health system setting as a lead often for formulary decisions, P&T committee involvement, where they're looking not only at the clinical considerations of biosimilars but incorporating the economic and even operational considerations associated with these products, so understanding the complete picture and how best to optimize and leverage biosimilars within their institutions."

Postpartum Sexual Health | Sex PharmD
Daisy Bravo is an online pregnancy & postpartum fitness coach and the founder of Strong Moms Fitness. Her passion for health and fitness has led her to a 20-year career supporting moms to reach their health and fitness goals.
Early on in her personal training career, she noticed that many trainers in the gym did not know what to do with pregnant women and new mothers. She identified two types of trainers; the ones that we’re afraid to work with moms and the ones that either ignored or were unaware that these women needed special consideration.
Sick of seeing this population ignored in standard fitness programs, and also wanting for herself to have a fit pregnancy. Daisy spent years learning how to help herself and other women have an empowered pregnancy. It wasn’t long into her studies that Daisy realized it was her destiny to work with pregnant and postpartum women and continue to raise awareness that women can be a badass in the gym…even if they are pregnant or a new mom.
Daisy’s mission is to support moms who feel pressure from society to quickly lose weight after baby. In their effort to look good on the outside it is so common to see moms resume pre-baby activities only to find themselves injured and left to accept that things like diastasis, prolapse, and leakage are normal.
Through Daisy’s coaching programs she supports, empowers, and educates women on how to workout safely during pregnancy and then recover and return to exercise after giving birth, without risking injury and avoiding those crash diets.

Congressman Buddy Carter and General Counsel of NCPA Matthew Seiler on PBM Reform
Congressman Buddy Carter and General Counsel of NCPA Matthew Seiler on PBM Reform. On this episode of the 'PBM Reform Podcast' we discuss the Pharmacy Benefit Manager (PBM) Transparency Act of 2022 (the Act) was recently proposed in the U.S. Senate and intends to incentivize “fair and transparent” PBM practices, prohibit spread pricing and claw backs of payments to pharmacies, and empower the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and state attorneys general in enforcement actions to stop “unfair and deceptive” PBM business practices.
The Act was introduced by Senators Maria Cantwell Chuck Grassley on May 24, 2022, and was approved by the Commerce Committee with bipartisan support (19-9) on June 22, 2022. This summary provides a high-level overview of the Act’s key measures.
Prohibition on Unfair or Deceptive Prescription Drug Pricing Practices
The Act would make it illegal for PBMs to:
Engage in “spread pricing,” which is described as charging a health plan or payer a different amount for a prescription drug’s ingredient cost or dispensing fee than the amount the PBM reimburses a pharmacy for the prescription drug’s ingredient cost or dispensing fee where the PBM retains the amount of any such difference;
Arbitrarily, unfairly, or deceptively reduce or rescind (a.k.a. “claw back”) any portion of the reimbursement payment to a pharmacist or pharmacy for a prescription drug’s ingredient cost of dispensing fee; or
Arbitrarily, unfairly, or deceptively increase or lower fees and reimbursements to a pharmacy to offset reimbursement changes under any federally funded health plan.
The Act would incentivize transparency by stating that a PBM shall not be in violation of the Act if the PBM passes through 100% of price concessions to a health plan or payer and provides complete disclosure of:
The cost, price, and reimbursement of prescription drugs to each health plan, payer, and pharmacy;
All fees, markups, and discounts the PBM charges or imposes on each health plan, payer, and pharmacy; and
The aggregate remuneration PBM receives from drug manufacturers, including nay rebate, discount, administration fee, and any other payment or credit obtained or retained by PBM.
