Sean Cox tribute, super-sub Firmino and the goalkeeper Liverpool should not sign

It was one of the most symbolic images of Liverpool’s thrilling run to the Champions League final – captain Jordan Henderson and the rest of the squad holding the banner dedicated to Sean Cox after the semi-final second leg in Rome. And in our latest Allez Les Rouges podcast, host Peter Hooton, regular guest Ste Monaghan and debutant Peter Carney tell the story behind the banner, how it got onto the pitch at the Stadio Olimpico, and how it was eventually taken to Sean’s family back in Dublin.Talk then turns to the superb new Hotel Tia with its owner, and another Allez Les Rouges debutant, Jostein Ansnes, whose passion for Liverpool has taken him from Norway to opening a business in the shadow of Anfield. There’s also plenty of debate on what is a wonderful World Cup including that man Henderson again, Dejan Lovren and why Roberto Firmino is becoming the new David Fairclough (for his country). There are also words of praise for Harry Maguire, Raheem Sterling and the goalkeeper from across the park, Jordan Pickford. That leads to a discussion over the future of Liverpool’s own No 1, Loris Karius. Peter and Co wonder if the German will get a chance to atone for his errors in the Champions League final. But, if that’s not the case, they are not keen on one keeper linked with the Reds on the back of his World Cup showings. It’s another great listen. Enjoy. Scouse footballer and Liverpool fan speaks out on his battle with depression

Kevin Ellison’s decision to speak out about his eight-year battle with depression....... it’s a battle the boyhood Liverpool fan kept quiet from his family – and one that led him to leading a ‘double life’ and one that ultimately led to the breakdown of his relationship with the mother of his two children. After seeking help, Kevin has been in a better place for some time now.But it was only after seeing a number of fellow footballers do the same, like former Reds goalkeeper Chris Kirkland, and most recently, Crawley Town defender Mark Connolly, that he took the brave decision to open up publicly about the issues he’s faced. It’s a decision that is helping him personally and, as he candidly explains in this podcast, it’s a decision that is leading other players, along with fans, to get in touch with him to ask for his advice. We also speak about Kevin’s enduring passion for the game, which will see him play until he is 40 at least, and what it was like growing up on Breck Road and standing on the Kop, watching his Liverpool heroes, one of whom he went on to play for. Why Liverpool need to bite the bullet and spend big on a goalkeeper – and the Shaqiri no-brainer

Liverpool’s Premier League fixtures are out and the World Cup may be about to kick-off.But our latest episode of Poetry in Motion with Neil Fitzmaurice is mainly concerned with one thing – transfers.Yes, who the Reds will be facing in 2018-19, and events in Russia do get a mention, but the bulk of the talk in another unmissable podcast centres on who Jurgen Klopp should sign next.Fitzy is joined by Joe Rimmer and Dan Kay and they are all in agreement that Klopp should bite the bullet and spend big on a goalkeeper like Jan Oblak. But if the Liverpool boss prefers to splash most of his transfer kitty elsewhere, Joe offers up a no less high-profile alternative. The Reds would not be breaking the bank if they moved for Xherdan Shaqiri, and while some supporters have reservations about the Stoke winger, Fitzy and Co have no doubts.Christian Pulisic, Jamie Vardy and – naturally – Nabil Fekir also get a mention. And it goes without saying that the lads pay tribute to the newly knighted, Sir Kenny Dalglish.Enjoy.
