176: Expat Life In Aruba – Full Breakdown of Immigration, Taxes, Cost of Living, Lifestyle & More…
Today, I’m going to discuss expat life in Aruba. I visited the country for a week in early January to really understand the immigration process, what taxes were like for individuals and businesses, and what the cost of living and lifestyle could offer an expat interested in living there.
In Today’s Episode, We Talk About
Great tips on the real estate market in Aruba. What the cost of buying a 3 bedroom 2.5 bath villa in a private community looks like and what it could cost you to live in Aruba.
The not-so-simple steps to understanding land tax issues if you chose to live in Aruba. I break it down so that you at least will have an idea of what you’re getting yourself into when making Aruba your permanent home.
What you can expect to pay in income tax if you become a permanent tax resident, and how you can avoid the ‘other’ taxes!
Ins and outs of a Timeshare. Is it a good idea or should you steer clear of them? Is Aruba different when it comes to timeshares? Listen in to my experience sitting down for 2 hours with a salesman that at the end we wanted to vomit blood!
Why it's vitally important to understand what the free trade zone is all about and how it can help your business grow exponentially.
Best strategies for living and working in Aruba. If this is your country of choice, you will not want to miss this episode!
Finally, listen in as I talk about the Covid restrictions to enter Aruba and how much fun we had renting a vehicle and really getting to know the island of Aruba!

I absolutely loved Aruba (as a tourist) and if you are into Island Living, then this might be a great place to look as an expat. As I mentioned, Covid didn’t seem to be a big deal there, and if you are a big water lover and enjoy international cuisine, you’ll love listening to this episode! 175: Telemedicine For International Families – Efrat Sagi-Ofir
Efrat Sagi-Ofir, along with her partners, started Air Doctor to ensure medicine was accessible to anyone at any time, and while the journey has not been easy, today Air Doctor is available in over 70 countries, has a network of over 20K doctors, and is a partner to some of the world's biggest insurance companies.
EFRAT AND I DISCUSSED A TON OF REALLY GREAT IDEAS; HERE ARE A FEW OF MY FAVOURITES:
How to start a company that’s super successful with just 2 people and a passion for helping others.
What the number one concern for parents is when travelling with their children and how to combat this terrifying emotional thought?
What to do if you get sick in a country where you don’t speak the language.
How to navigate the medical system in a country far from home with just your laptop and wifi.
How to save money and time when you're travelling the world that will give you peace of mind.
The most important aspect to ensure your safety when you leave the comfort of your home country to see the world.
What is business like working with 20,000 doctors in 70 countries, all speaking different languages?
And much much more…

CONCLUSION:
I had such an interesting conversation with Efrat. Along with her business partners, she has tackled a problem for travellers who leave the comfort of their own country, where they speak the language and understand their own medical procedures.
There’s nothing more frightening than having an emergency with you or your family members and not knowing what to do. Efrat has figured out how to combat this.

173: Escaping The Matrix – Mikkel Thorup on About Abroad
Today you will hear my recent interview with my friend Chase Warrington on his podcast called About Abroad. I really loved this episode because we talked about some important things, like travel, mindset, taxes, citizenship, 2nd residencies, my school, and so many other things.
Back in 2021, Chase Warrington was on my podcast, episode 157, so if you enjoy our conversation today, go and check out the episode I did with him.
HERE’S WHAT CHASE AND I TALKED ABOUT IN DETAIL:
Why there is not just one way to do things, and why it’s so important to find what’s good for you, find your peeps, your tribe and when you do, how it can change your life!
Listen in when I talk about the very best thing I have ever done in my life, what that is and how you can be a part of it.
I talk with Chase Warrington about how I started travelling over 20 years ago and why it became part of my life, the reasons why I can do what I do in this crazy world.
The most important lessons I learned from spending time in a government-run school and what made me so passionate about starting my own international school based on totally different concepts and ideas.
Listen in as I talk about my superpower! Why I am able to do the things I do and why I’ve accomplished so much in my life. You can have this too!
The benefits of having an international family. What does that look like in 2022 and what will life look like in 20 years for my children?
Why it’s so important for your children to speak multiple languages and how that is even possible for a 5-year-old child to speak English, Spanish and Mandarin fluently with German on the way, that has never stepped foot in a school.
The 3 most important ways to recreate the social aspect of a child's life who attends school in a virtual world.
How and why I became a freedom fighter and how I help my clients legally reduce their tax bill, using creative strategies and the benefits it has for their net worth and their investments.
Chase and I talk about how our entire life is based on experiences, what those experiences have been and if you haven’t had great ones yet, why travelling the world can change your life forever!
For those of you listening today to my interview on Chase Warrington's podcast or any of my episodes with any of my guests, and you’ve heard the story of my childhood and how horrible my education was, you may wonder - why am I so confident? Where does his confidence come from… listen to this episode, we talk in detail about how and why this happened, especially at such a young age when things could have gone so horribly wrong.
My best tips after working with private clients for years on educating children and the best ways to deal with living overseas.
What you can do to escape the matrix this year
Chase and I discuss my business, Expat Money, the type of client I work with and how I help these clients every day and how you can work with me too.

I’m really proud of my story and am glad I can use it to help and inspire others, too.

171: Layover Secrets – How To Get The Most Out Of Every Minute You’ve Got – Michael Wedaa
Michael Wedaa has travelled to more than 100 countries on six continents. His love of travel started in his youth when he visited many of the great national parks in the U.S. He then took his first major international trips to Europe, South America, and Asia in 2011. From there, he caught the travel bug and began taking four international trips per year. In 2020, he became the host of a travel TV show called The Layover Experience.
HERE IS A SNEAK PEEK OF WHAT WE DISCUSSED IN THIS EPISODE…
Imagine visiting 100 countries! What does that take to accomplish? Michael shares with us what he’s done in his life over the last 10 years to make this happen in his life…and how you can too!
What does it take for the love of travel to rule your life! I chat with Michael about how travel changed my life and the important lessons I’ve learned from the people I’ve met along the way.
I bet you’re thinking…it’s so easy to go to London, Paris and Rome…but what about Iran, Egypt or Tanzania? Listen to how Michael visited those countries and his wild experiences.
Michael and I share some great stories about the countries we’ve visited that people have been really afraid to travel to.
Have you imagined yourself as a writer? You’ve got some amazing plans and yet don’t know what the next steps are. Here Michael tells us how he started and finished writing his first book and I think you’ll really like this if you’re a budding author.
I loved chatting with Michael about countries we still don’t know how to spell, or even pronounce, yet can’t wait to visit. Places most people are too scared to go to. Here are some really awesome tips!
Michael shares some hilarious stories of his travels and the trouble you can get into when things happen that are out of your control.
Michaels YouTube Show is called ‘Layover Guru’. In today's episode, Michael and I talk about how you can utilize your time on a layover of let’s say 6 - 24 hours. Are you like most people and just sit in the airport? Ya, I get that. But listen to this…Michael uses that time to see a new city or a new country that he may never get a chance to visit again. He shares his tips and tricks for everyone to enjoy.
Is Covid still scaring you? Are you waiting for things to go back to normal? Michael talks about all of the travelling he’s done in the past 2 years and how you can make it a reality.

I have had the pleasure of joining him on his podcast multiple times and have even been able to assist him in his own expat journey overseas.
On today's podcast, Marc and I discuss his expat journey leaving Los Angeles where he had lived for more than a decade to now living in Mexico City. We discuss the struggles and craziness of dealing with the Mexican government to get residency and in the USA to get a green card for his wife and stepson.
Here's What We Discussed:
First off, what is a libertarian? What does it mean to be a libertarian? Do we all think the same, do we have the same ideas…do we wave around a libertarian flag?
How neither Marc nor I became overnight libertarians. It became our ideals, our way of life and what brought us to this point in our lives. I think you will love this conversation.
Expat living is a vehicle towards freedom and liberty. Are you leaning towards leaving your home country? Wondering what all the hype is about. Marc and I discuss the real struggles of leaving your home and all the things you take for granted.
We talk about the little things that drive us crazy about living in Panama and Mexico and the old adage of 'mañana'. If you’re American or Canadian, you’ll feel our pain.
Marc talks about the nightmare of dealing with immigration in the USA and the time it has taken to complete the paperwork.
And in the end, has it been worth it? All these extra steps, and time spent…has it been worth it? Being an expat, leaving your family behind? Going for a green card? Immigration?
I talk a lot about being a libertarian and a lot of my guests are libertarians. If you are interested in the philosophy and really resonate with what we talk about, then this episode will speak to you.
