Mark Ebner - Exposing Scientology

Exposing Scientology Author's Note: Exposing the criminal mind-control cult of Scientology for Spy magazine in '96... “If you really want to enslave people, tell them that you’re going to give them total freedom.”- L. Ron Hubbard  I am an ex-drug addict who has solicited prostitutes in my day. I’ve also masturbated and inhaled at the same time, and I have been arrested more than once in my life. I dropped out of high school, and I’ve been under psychiatric care. Oh yeah, and I owe the IRS roughly six thousand dollars that they are well aware of.In the language of Scientologists, the above information reflects what they include in their “Dead Agent Packs”-dossiers of all the dirt they dig up on people critical of their “religion.” Often they disseminate damaging information like this to the friends, family, landlords, and employers of anyone who dares speak of–or worse, publish anything derogatory about the “church.” So what I’m doing here is Dead Agenting myself before we begin, beating them to the punch. Recently I spent two weeks undergoing an initiation to Scientology for this magazine. My experiences constituted only the beginnings of the beginnings of what this cult is all about, but it was enough to leave me strung-out with fear. watching my back, and wondering where the next element of harassment was going to come from. Scientologists don’t like it if you leave. Even if you leave quietly. There is a saying adherents fondly quote: “The way out is the way through.” Deep thoughts passed on by decade-dead megalomaniacal psychopath Lafayette Ronald Hubbard, in whose writings church followers find a labyrinth so complex, so full of elitist jargon and weird science that those trapped in it cannot see that the way out is the way through the fucking door.Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/houseofmysteryradio. Malcolm Robinson - Paranormal Great Britain

Malcolm Robinson continues with his Paranormal Case Files of Great Britain series, and this volume is once more packed with many spooky and spine-tingling tales. Malcolm discusses cases where ghosts have attacked people in the most frightening of circumstances, (and left their mark too!) We also hear of many incidents from people throughout the British Isles who have experienced ghosts and hauntings at first hand. Malcolm also takes a look back at the famous Cottingley Fairy photographs of 1917, and whilst a known fake, it is a piece of history that deserves another look. Also, in this volume, are the astonishing photographs of ‘Alien’ Bill Rooke, which includes the controversial ‘fairy photograph’. From time slips to apports, to a ghost who drives a car! This book has enough gripping spooky stories to keep you awake all night and into the next day. Read on if you dare.Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/houseofmysteryradio. Hosted on Acast. Brian Whitney - My Son the Killer Luka Magnotta

In 2012, the Canadian Press ignited a firestorm of criticism by naming killer Luka Magnotta as its “Newsmaker Of The Year.” But while the recognition was questionable for its sensitivity, there’s no doubt that few people had captured the public’s attention like the young murderer and internet sensation.A male escort and sometimes model, Magnotta had earned his notoriety by videotaping himself stabbing Chinese student Lin Jun to death with an ice pick and dismembering the body, before posting the video online. After mailing Jun’s hands and feet to elementary schools, he then led Interpol on a manhunt that ended when he was arrested at an Internet café in Berlin where he was reading news stories about himself.Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/houseofmysteryradio. Tom Nichols - Death of Expertise

The rise of the internet and other technology has made information more easily-accessible than ever before. While this has had the positive effect of equalizing access to knowledge, it also has lowered the bar on what depth of knowledge is required to consider oneself an "expert." A cult ofanti-expertise sentiment has coincided with anti-intellectualism, resulting in massively viral yet poorly informed debates ranging from the anti-vaccination movement to attacks on GMOs. This surge in intellectual egalitarianism has altered the landscape of debates - all voices are equal, and "fact"is a subjective term. Browsing WebMD puts one on equal footing with doctors, and Wikipedia allows all to be foreign policy experts, scientists, and more.Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/houseofmysteryradio. JOHN KOERNER - JFK JR. ASSASSINATION (JFK JR DEATH)

Exploding the Truth: The JFK, Jr. Assassination presents evidence of a conspiracy to assassinate the only surviving son of President John F. Kennedy and considers the motives that many powerful forces had, to make sure he never set foot in the White House. Divided into two parts, Part One examines the potential motives the Bush family, the C.I.A., and perhaps even Israeli intelligence, had to eliminate JFK, Jr. Part Two systematically dismantles the official version of events, that JFK, Jr., crashed his plane due to pilot error, and examines both the evidence of a government cover-up at the crime scene, and the extensive eyewitness reports of an explosion that brought the aircraft downSupport this show http://supporter.acast.com/houseofmysteryradio. Stephen Singular - Stolen Future

"This is an important book with new, deep reporting. It is chock-full of information, insights, and analysis that will intrigue both current readers and future historians." —Dan Rather, 24-year anchor of CBS Evening News and former White House correspondentIn Stolen Future, investigative reporter Stephen Singular conducts a breathtaking historical excavation of a still-controversial "cold case": the disputed, nail-biter 2000 election in Florida.Remember the infamous "hanging chads?" The outcome of the election was, amid uproar and rancor, ultimately decided by the Supreme Court. But what really caused those thousands of votes to be invalidated? Determined to find out, Singular dug deep — and uncovered shocking secrets about the extent to which our trusted election mechanisms can be compromised. But his story was never told. Instead, it was suppressed, ignored, and then buried. Until now, that is — just in time to be a part of current heated discussion regarding US election fraud.Time and again over the years we have seen proof that our machinery for choosing leaders is shamefully vulnerable to manipulation and chicanery.Since the 2000 debacle, standards have actually declined, as electoral authorities across the country abandoned not just punch cards but also reliable and re-countable hand-marked paper ballots — in favor of the false promises of technology. They have bet our democracy and our future on totally opaque black-box electronic devices that can be "hacked" by both outsiders and insiders. This is an issue that should keep you up at night. And after reading Stolen Future, a real-life thriller, you will never take the security of your vote for granted again."The attack on democracy described in this fascinating account is entirely plausible. If it happened, it changed the course of history." —Philip B. Stark, professor of statistics at the University of California and advisor to the US Election Assistance Commission"This story raises issues that really matter." —Douglas W. Jones, professor of computer science at the University of Iowa and co-author of Broken Ballots: Will Your Vote Count?Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/houseofmysteryradio. Hosted on Acast. Kevin Werbach - The Blockchain and the New Architecture of Trust

In an era when trust in institutions of all kinds is collapsing, the blockchain offers a new hope: Shared ledgers of information that no one controls but everyone can believe. Since its emergence a decade ago with the cryptocurrency Bitcoin, the blockchain has spawned hundreds of companies, billions of dollars of investment, and adoption by companies ranging from the New York Stock Exchange to Walmart. Yet it remains wildly misunderstood. Wharton professor Kevin Werbach offers the first in-depth, balanced analysis of the blockchain's true potential, as well as its limitations and dangers. He maps the often-confusing landscape, and shows how a technology resting on foundations of mutual mistrust can become trustworthy. Surprisingly for a technology widely associated with illegality, fraud, and distrust of governments, the path to trusted blockchains runs through governance, regulation, and law. Bill James - Man on the Train

Using unprecedented, dramatically compelling sleuthing techniques, legendary statistician and baseball writer Bill James applies his analytical acumen to crack an unsolved century-old mystery surrounding one of the deadliest serial killers in American history.Between 1898 and 1912, families across the country were bludgeoned in their sleep with the blunt side of an axe. Jewelry and valuables were left in plain sight, bodies were piled together, faces covered with cloth. Some of these cases, like the infamous Villisca, Iowa, murders, received national attention. But few people believed the crimes were related. And fewer still would realize that all of these families lived within walking distance to a train station. When celebrated baseball statistician and true crime expert Bill James first learned about these horrors, he began to investigate others that might fit the same pattern. Applying the same know-how he brings to his legendary baseball analysis, he empirically determined which crimes were committed by the same person. Then after sifting through thousands of local newspapers, court transcripts, and public records, he and his daughter Rachel made an astonishing discovery: they learned the true identity of this monstrous criminal. In turn, they uncovered one of the deadliest serial killers in America.Riveting and immersive, with writing as sharp as the cold side of an axe, The Man from the Train paints a vivid, psychologically perceptive portrait of America at the dawn of the twentieth century, when crime was regarded as a local problem, and opportunistic private detectives exploited a dysfunctional judicial system. James shows how these cultural factors enabled such an unspeakable series of crimes to occur, and his groundbreaking approach to true crime will convince skeptics, amaze aficionados, and change the way we view criminal history.Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/houseofmysteryradio.
