How Political Polls Work – Mo News Interview
After the most recent presidential elections, there are ongoing questions about the accuracy of polling and which ones to trust. And whenever I post a story about a poll, I get so many requests to do more on this topic. Enter Anthony Salvanto, CBS News' director of elections and surveys. He is also the author of “Where Did You Get This Number? A Pollster’s Guide To Making Sense of the World.” I talked to him about how pollsters get a true picture of the mood and sentiment of the country and why 1,000 people is the right sample size for both a city the size of Chicago and the entire US population. His answer: We need to think about the accuracy of a poll the same way we get a sense for how a bowl of soup or spaghetti sauce tastes. From one spoonful.More on that analogy in our interview, as well as his answers on how the internet has changed polling, his response to critics, which populations are the most difficult to capture and why polls have more power than ever before.–Please remember to subscribe to the podcast and leave us a review.–Mosheh Oinounou (@mosheh) is an Emmy and Murrow award-winning journalist. JFK Assassination: What Is The CIA Still Hiding? -- Mo News Interview
Nearly 60 years after assassination of President John F. Kennedy, the US government continues to keep thousands of files classified. President Trump and most recently President Biden both decided to block access to key archival documents (on the advice of the CIA) despite a law that says everything should have been released by now.Former Washington Post reporter and author Jefferson Morley, one of the most credible authorities on the assassination joined Mosheh for a conversation last fall. What is the CIA still withholding from the public and why? What did they know about Lee Harvey Oswald's actions in the lead up to November 22, 1963 and why were so many CIA officials tracking his movements before the assassination? And could Oswald have pulled this off alone or was he being coached and assisted by any others?Morley is the editor of the JFK Facts blog, author of several books on the intelligence community and has spent a career exploring what happened and fighting for the government to release everything it knows. In our conversation, he takes a fact-based approach to break down what we know as well as what is being withheld and why....all these decades later.–Please remember to subscribe to the podcast and leave us a review. –Mosheh Oinounou (@mosheh) is an Emmy and Murrow award-winning journalist. Why NASA Is Headed Back To The Moon -- Mo News Interview
This year marks 50 years since humans last walked on the moon. NASA is poised to return there with the new Artemis program that starts with the launch of a rocket this fall with the goal of landing humans there by 2025. The ultimate goal: a moon base that will help us launch missions to Mars within a decade. However, technical issues have canceled the most recent attempted launches and the cost of the program keeps ballooning. In this edition, Mosheh talks to David Kerley, correspondent for the Discovery Channel Space Launch Live and editor of the Full Throttle Newsletter. He also previously covered space and aviation for ABC News. The conversation with Kerley explores the mission to return to the moon, the latest NASA challenges, the plan to get to Mars and the overall state of space exploration, including the competition between Jeff Bezos, Elon Musk, Richard Branson and Boeing. They also discuss “For All Mankind,” the Apple+ drama that imagines a world where the US-Russian space race and missions to the moon never ended. –Please remember to subscribe to the podcast and leave us a review.–Mosheh Oinounou (@mosheh) is an Emmy and Murrow award-winning journalist.
