#747 Life Purpose(s) - Joe Dituri

Commander Joe Dituri is a retired Naval Officer and Ph.D. Clinical Researcher, Public Speaker, Author and Dad. Six months ago, Joe almost lost his life in a car accident and is now recovering from a traumatic brain injury. I really enjoyed our chat. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

#746 Unnecessary Guilt - Dr. Jodi Richardson

In this episode of TYP, Dr. Jodi and I speak about healthy and unhealthy rituals, how to change feelings (it ain’t easy), performing under pressure, when discipline becomes obsession, feeling guilty when we shouldn’t, when self-care becomes self-pity, OCD and lots more. Enjoy.  drjodirichardson.comSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

#745 Teaching, Learning & Intelligence - Richard Gerver

Richard Gerver has worked with an extraordinary range of people, including former US President Barack Obama, The Dalai Lama, Prince Charles and Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak. He has two of the most popular LinkedIn Learning courses in the world, covering overcoming complexity and mental toughness, he is the author of the number one bestsellers, ‘Change’ and ‘Simple Thinking’ and although we only met five minutes before recording this episode, I genuinely felt like I was catching up with an old Mate. I completely loved this chat.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

#744 Marauding Clans - Suzy Balogh OAM

The reason for the title becomes apparent as the show unfolds. Apart from being an Olympic Gold Medallist, Suzy Balogh OAM is raw, real, funny, passionate and super humble. She’s also excellent at shooting stuff that flies through the air in a range of directions at 110 kms per hour. As a shotgun shooter, Susie has represented Australia and won gold multiple times. She is the first Australian female shooter to win gold at an Olympic Games (Athens 2004) and the first Australian shooter to win Olympic gold on debut. I knew nothing about Olympic shooting and now I know something but this was really a conversation about performance, resilience, optimising potential, solving problems, becoming elite and performing under pressure. Enjoy.  hittingtargets.com.auSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

#743 Commitment Issues - Harps & Tiff

I recently jumped on young Tiff's podcast (Roll With The Punches) and we riffed on all things brain, mind, emotion, identity and commitment issues. We also spoke about Tiff's 'special friend' and her psych sessions with Dr. Bill. It was fun.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

#742 Exposure Therapy - Dr. Lillian Nejad

“Do what you can, with what you have, where you are” (Theodore Roosevelt); this was the general theme of this conversation with Dr. Lillian. Along the way we spoke about maximising (not wasting) time, potential and resources, what makes the Doc anxious, why TYP is a form of exposure therapy for her, her love (and my avoidance) of preparation and planning, her parenting style (spoiler alert.. the Doc’s not always mother-of-the-year!), why we seek approval from people who don’t even like us, the comedy career I’ll never have, our ability to get in our own way and lots more. Enjoy. drlilliannejad.comSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

#741 A Recovery Story - Richard Smith

In his twenties, Richard Smith (Nutritionist, Speaker, Entrepreneur, Researcher, Bodybuilder) was morbidly obese, suffered from constant back pain, was covered in acne, endured regular debilitating migraines (which made him temporarily blind), battled Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, had high blood pressure, was a type 2 diabetic, alcoholic, addicted to pain killers, went through a full pack of paracetamol daily (on top of his regular pain medication!!) and to top it all off, he was dealing with significant mental health issues (anxiety, depression, social phobia and suicidal ideation). For Richard, the magic pill came in the form of a dramatic shift in thinking, behaving, lifestyle and specifically, a Keto diet. And before anyone throws their salad in the sandpit, no, this is not an endorsement for Keto (or any nutritional philosophy) but rather, a conversation with a f**kin’ fascinating bloke who completely reinvented himself. BTW, I don’t eat Keto but I’m definitely gonna make a few tweaks and see what happens; a study of one. N=1 and I am the research(er) and the research(ed). Enjoy. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

#740 Toxic Tech Habits - Dr. Kristy Goodwin

For years, Dr Kristy Goodwin has researched, written about and educated audiences about the ways in which technology impacts and shapes children’s, teens’ and adults’ wellbeing, health and learning. Digital wellbeing is a thing. As is a Technotantrum. As is Technoguilt. As are ‘Screen-agers’ (I invented that mid-show). Kristy refers to all the stuff we do with technology (good and bad) as our ‘digital behaviours’ (so many new terms!). This was fascinating and confronting and if I’m being honest, I may have some issues. Shocker.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

#739 Humanimals - Dr. Daniel Ellenberg

As always with the Daniel, this was fun. Apart from calling me out on my bullsh*t (which he does every episode), we also explored death-bed regrets (fascinating), discontent (super prevalent), surrendering the ego (I’m trying), righteous anger (what?), the intersection of spirituality and intellect, Buddhist philosophy, the health benefits of connection and why we’re all Humanimals (according to the Doc). Enjoy.  strengthwithheart.comrelationshipsthatwork.comrewireleadership.comSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

#738 Emotion Coding - Nikk Hughes

Nikk Hughes is an Emotional Coder (it’s a thing), Coach and Speaker who works with individuals and organisations, helping them to improve performance across a broad range of roles, tasks, situations, environments and industries. Nikk is like no other guest we’ve had (in this space) in that, she has had to learn how to interact, connect, socialise and work optimally with others, while trying to understand and navigate her own challenges with Autism (ADHD, Asperger’s). She is brilliant, direct, funny, I love the way she breaks things down and she also has a unique take on emotional intelligence and regulation that was (mostly) new to me. She also doesn’t understand why people enjoy dancing. But she wants to. Enjoy. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
