#1014 Light & Shade - Harrison Buchanan
There’s light and shade in art, in relationships, in mental health and in life. This is an atypical TYP episode, in that it’s not a conversation with an ‘expert’, not a teaching or coaching session, not an interview with a high profile person and not a philosophical dive into the meaning of life. It’s a chat with a talented young man I’ve been mentoring for a little while. Harrison is a world-class rock climber, a brilliant artist and a deep-thinker, who has been navigating the peaks and troughs of being human. It’s an interesting chat (IMO) but gets fascinating in the second half when he talks about his art; the creative process, how he names his pieces, where his inspiration comes from and the broad range of unconventional mediums he uses to do what he does. Enjoy.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

#1013 Approval Porn & Danger Porn - David Gillespie
This episode with David Gillespie is a ripper. Maybe my favourite. Towards the end, he subjected me to some hypothetical scenarios (used in actual research), requiring me to make some really difficult ethical / moral choices between two bad outcomes. I hated and loved it. I experienced both curiosity (mind stuff) and discomfort (emotional stuff) at the same time. I would love to hear your feedback on those questions (via our Facebook page). Before that emotionally gruelling exercise, we spoke about the adolescent brain and why it’s more susceptible to digital addiction, why boys are typically more prone to ‘danger porn’ and girls are typically more impacted by ‘approval porn’, why profit-driven corporations are ‘psychopathic’, why ‘traditional’ addictions (booze, drugs) have plummeted in young people (teens and twenties), why dopamine is the real addiction (accessed through various pathways) and lots more.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

#1012 Poo Transplants, Antibiotics, Microbiome & Bacteria - Dr. Bill Sullivan (PT2)
Yep, Poo transplants. Crapsules. You’re welcome. They’re a thing. This chat was f**king fascinating, Dr. Bill Sullivan is a brilliant science communicator and I learned a shit-ton. Pun intended. Among a gazillion things, we spoke about antibiotics and their impact on our microbiome, the five second rule (food on floor), Gene therapy (to treat and even eradicate some conditions), the intersection of science and ethics, personalised medicine, being disconnected from our bodies (we mostly are), parasites in our brain (one third of us have a particular one), the nutritional value of food today versus in the past, the impact of microbiome on things like obesity, depression, allergies and addiction, the gut-brain relationship, fermented foods, probiotics and lots more. #1010 What's Harder Than Being An Olympian? - Giaan Rooney
According to Giaan Rooney, ‘raising kids’ is the answer to the title question. Apart from being a World Champion, Olympic Gold Medallist, TV Presenter, Sports Commentator, Author, Corporate Speaker, Fashion Entrepreneur, Philanthropist, Macadamia Farmer, Mum of Two and Wife of one, Giaan Rooney hasn’t really done much. Nonetheless, we had a good chat. Seriously, this conversation was a fascinating insight into (her) life before, during and after, an Olympic career. #1009 Building A High Performance Body - Russell Jarrett
And when I write high-performance, I’m not talking about running a two-hour marathon, climbing Everest or being a walking six-pack. No, I’m talking about optimising what you have to work with (genetics, time, resources) at any age; a body that can perform well (functionally) day to day. I’ve trained many people with high performance bodies into their eighties and this chat with Rusty, is all about that.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

#1007 Be Your Own Boss - Patrick, Tiff & Harps
Work for yourself or work for them? It’s a question many of us ask over the course of our working lives. I asked it early on and realised that employee-dom (not a word) wasn’t for me. It’s not bad (of course), just not optimal for me. Subsequently, I’ve been the boss of me for thirty-three years, employed hundreds of people, made a million f*ck-ups, had a million breakdowns and breakthroughs, re-invented myself numerous times, learned lots, forgotten lots, made money, lost money but most of all, I’ve enjoyed (and grown through) all of it. Even the sh*t. Building a business, brand, product and/or service is something people have been asking me about for decades. This podcast is a conversation about that.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

#1006 The Zen Rabbi - Rabbi Rami Shapiro (PT2)
What is God? Why are people leaving organised religion in droves? What is mysticism? What is the delusion of separation? Why are we terrified of death? What is enlightenment? Why would a loving God create hell? What are the four components of perennial wisdom? How is religion a ‘map’ and mysticism/spirituality a compass? How and why does a Rabbi (and Doctor of Religion) consider religion to be the problem and not the solution? As you can imagine (if you know me), I was super excited to talk with Rabbi Rami and he did not disappoint. When I chat with guests, I’m almost-always thinking about questions, topics and conversations that will be of most value and interest to my audience but sometimes, I’m selfish. Sometimes I open conversational doors that I know won’t be of interest to the entirety of my (typical) audience. This chat was that. I f*ckin’ loved it and many of you will too, but perhaps not all. *BIO: Rabbi Rami Shapiro is an author, teacher and speaker on the subjects of liberal Judaism and contemporary spirituality, he served for ten years as Adjunct Professor of Religion at Middle Tennessee State University and is an award–winning author of thirty-six books on religion and spirituality. He also received rabbinical ordination from the Hebrew Union College–Jewish Institute of Religion, holds a Ph.D. in religion, was a rabbinic chaplain with the USAF for 3 years, a congregational rabbi for 20 and was a Professor of Religious Studies for 10. Okay, he’s been busy (lol). Enjoy. rabbirami.comSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
