Each of us could come up with our own definition of a "blessed life." When you think of what your life would look like as "blessed," what do you think of first? Money? Status? Family? Charisma? The way Jesus talks about being blessed is so counter to what we feel or even believe. Even though we might know with our heads what Jesus says about blessings, our hearts have to grapple with it. In Matthew 28, Jesus gives a mission to all His followers—then and now—for how to live in the world, called The Great Commission. Do you know what that mission is?In 2017, a research group called Barna asked that question to churchgoers, and the results were startling: 82% of churchgoers responded that they either didn't know or were unsure in their knowledge of The Great Commission.If we are truly following the way of Jesus, then it requires doing everything that Jesus commanded, and it's this: "Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” (Matthew 28:18-20)It's living on mission, in our day-to-day going. It's taking interruptions as opportunities to make the love of God visible. It's stopping to pray, listen, and serve those far from God. It's sharing what He's doing in our lives right now.And we do this for the sake of the world, because we're blessed to be a blessing to others.Support the show

We're all disciples of someone or something. The question is not "if" we're being discipled, it's if we know what we're being discipled by. And this is important to know because who we're becoming is important.Becoming more like Jesus isn't something we stumble into—it requires daily intentional abiding with God and with gospel community. Trying to run the race of faith without training will not lead to real transformation. Yet, transformation through Christ is possible.How do we become an apprentice of Jesus in a way that leads to real transformation? How do we become like Christ?Support the show

Before we are asked to do anything for God, He invites us to be with Him. Intimacy with Jesus is the goal. But so often, our presence with God takes a backseat to performance. There is work to be done, accomplishments to be won… We forget the truth of Psalm 46:10—that we know God best when we are still before Him. We will never stumble into godliness.
