Dawn Bowery is a British photographer residing in Laurel Canyon, Los Angeles. She has always had a passion for photography, preferring to document life visually rather than through the written word. Through her travels she developed a love for street photography in far away places like China, Cuba and Morocco where she took an intensive photography course with Creative Escapes. This allowed her the opportunity to develop her skills and gave her the confidence to take her photography to the next level. She was rewarded by having one of her fine art prints from Morocco exhibited at the Royal Academy of Art in their Summer Exhibition 2009 and went on to have several exhibitions in London selling fine art prints to collectors around the world. Before becoming a professional photographer Dawn enjoyed a long and successful career as a visual effects artist for film and television working for Rhythm and Hues Studios in Los Angeles and more recently for Sky TV in London. Her visual effects background clearly influences her photography and is evident in her contemporary color treatment and post production. This combined with her natural empathy for her subject and classic sense of composition result in stunning portraiture that tells a story. In 2010 Dawn decided to make the leap and return to Los Angeles to pursue photography full time. The combination of her love of portrait photography and curiosity about what brought her fellow Brits to the City of Angels resulted in the idea for her upcoming coffee table book "California Dreaming:Real life stories of Brits in LA". The book has been a labour of love for almost three year and features stunning portraits of an eclectic mix of people from all walks of life, some are celebrities, others are everyday people, but all are inspirational of people following their dreams. Those featured include Nigel Lythgoe ( TV exec ), Audley Harrison ( Olympic boxer ), Ioan Gruffudd ( Actor ), Steve Sidelnyk ( Drummer ), Alan Selka ( Butler ) and The Atherton Twins ( Cirque Du Soleil acrobats ). George Lange’s work as a photographer is known all over the world. He grew up in Pittsburgh and now lives in Boulder, Colorado, though his career has taken him just about everywhere. After graduating from the Rhode Island School of Design, he worked for the legendary photographers Duane Michals and Annie Leibovitz before going out on his own. New York artist Xiomáro (SEE-oh-MAH-ro) breathes life into iconic American figures and historical events to make them relevant in the 21st century. After recovering from cancer, he transitioned from a varied career as a musician, entertainment industry attorney and artist manager into the field of art photography. Mark Hemmings is a professional photographer and commercial filmmaker. He is Director of Photography at Hemmings House Pictures, an international media company that specializes in TV production, documentaries, commercial films, advertising/architectural photography and audio recording. Mark got his start in the photography and movie industry when he lived in Japan in 2000. He signed a contract with a photography agency in Tokyo which lead to a career traveling around the world capturing images for magazines, travel guidebooks, and commercial clients. These travels have given Mark a great love for street photography, and meeting new people from different cultures. Mark is also a professional photography instructor, and he has taught photography workshops around the world: Japan, Korea, England, Hungary, Transylvania/Romania, and Mexico. Sam Abell has been a photographer for over 40 years and has been largely known for his work with National Geographic. His career has revolved largely through his many long-term projects for magazines and books. He is also an author, artist and teacher. Celebrated photographer Matthew Jordan Smith has worked with some of the top names in entertainment today including Haile Berry, Jennifer Connelly, Jamie Fox, Michael Jordan and Oprah Winfrey. Matthew’s love of photography and people stretches far beyond his commissioned work and has given birth to several personal projects including two books. Born in Paris in 1928 to Russian parents, Elliott Erwitt spent his childhood in Milan, then emigrated to the US, via France, with his family in 1939. As a teenager living in Hollywood, he developed an interest in photography and worked in a commercial darkroom before experimenting with photography at Los Angeles City College. In 1948 he moved to New York and exchanged janitorial work for film classes at the New School for Social Research. Erwitt traveled in France and Italy in 1949 with his trusty Rolleiflex camera. In 1951 he was drafted for military service and undertook various photographic duties while serving in a unit of the Army Signal Corps in Germany and France. While in New York, Erwitt met Edward Steichen, Robert Capa and Roy Stryker, the former head of the Farm Security Administration. Stryker initially hired Erwitt to work for the Standard Oil Company, where he was building up a photographic library for the company, and subsequently commissioned him to undertake a project documenting the city of Pittsburgh. In 1953 Erwitt joined Magnum Photos and worked as a freelance photographer for Collier's, Look, Life, Holiday and other luminaries in that golden period for illustrated magazines. To this day he is for hire and continues to work for a variety of journalistic and commercial outfits. In the late 1960s Erwitt served as Magnum's president for three years. He then turned to film: in the 1970s he produced several noted documentaries and in the 1980s eighteen comedy films for Home Box Office. Dan (Dano) Steinhardt has over three decades of business experience in photography. In addition to national academic achievement, Steinhardt was first recognized for his photography when Scholastic Magazine awarded him the Grand Prize as the best high school photographer in North America. As Marketing Manager at Epson America, Inc. Steinhardt's responsibilities help position Epson as a key player in the photographic industry to professional and amateur photo markets. Steinhardt was fortunate to have attended Reseda High School in Los Angeles, CA studying under the legendary Warren King. While still in high school, Steinhardt began assisting professional photographers in Hollywood, CA. Because of his background at Reseda High and experience as a photo assistant, Steinhardt was awarded advance standing at Brooks Insitute of Photography, Santa Barbara, CA where he double majored in Advertising/Illustration and Industrial/Scientific photography graduating with a Bachelors degree at the age of 20. After graduation from Brooks Institute, Steinhardt operated his own commercial photography studio in Chicago, IL, specializing for eight years in advertising photography for national clients. During this time, Steinhardt worked in large format table-top product and food photography and was voted by American Photographer Magazine as, "New face in advertising photography". Before joining Epson, Steinhardt was a marketing director in the Professional Division at Eastman Kodak Company and held a variety of positions at Eastman Kodak in Rochester, NY and New York City including strategic marketing director, market segment manager and professional imaging specialist.
