S16E25 - ”Start with Impact, Follow the Energy”, with Jake Jacobs

In this HCI Podcast episode, Dr. Jonathan H. Westover https://www.linkedin.com/in/jonathanhwestover/) talks with Jake Jacobs about overcoming change fatigue and the concept of "Start with impact, follow the energy." See the video here: https://youtu.be/xnw69lADUco Why do some organizations work and others don’t? Jake Jacobs (https://www.linkedin.com/in/robertjakejacobs/) has been curious about that question since his first real job on the assembly line of an ice cream novelty manufacturing plant and his second, tending bar in college. As a pioneer in the field of large group interventions, Jake has continued his discoveries about better ways for people and organizations to change. His consulting, writing, and teaching have all helped him continue in answering that question. He has worked with some of the largest corporations in the world including American Express, Corning, Ford, The Home Depot, Marriott, Mobil, and TJ Maxx. He has also supported major change efforts with the City of New York, the U.S. National Forest Service and Environmental Protection Agency and the United Kingdom’s National Health and Employment Services. Writing has been a great way for him to get clearer about what he believes and how he works. In addition to regular postings to my blog, he has written articles for Strategy and Leadership, Executive Excellence, Leader to Leader, Strategic HR Review, the OD Practitioner, Consulting to Management and has been featured in The Huffington Post and Inc. magazine. S16E23 - HBR Minute - China’s New Innovation Advantage, with Zak Dychtwald

In this "HBR Minute" HCI Podcast episode, Dr. Jonathan H. Westover https://www.linkedin.com/in/jonathanhwestover/) explores the recent HBR video, "China’s New Innovation Advantage." See the video here: https://youtu.be/ump7Kge05ZE. Video Overview: "China is achieving a new level of global competitiveness, thanks to its hyper-adaptive population, says Zak Dychtwald, author of "Young China" and founder of Young China Group. The video covers the following points and questions: The future of the Chinese economy is in innovation. What’s behind China’s new innovation advantage? We shouldn’t be so focused on the innovators. Why do people in China adopt new technologies so readily? China is an outlier in a very important way. What’s so powerful about having all these early adopters? What can companies in other countries learn from China? To understand what’s powering the global rise of Chinese companies, we need to recognize that China now has at its disposal a resource that no other country has. That is: a vast population that has lived through unprecedented amounts of change and, consequently, has developed an astonishing propensity for adopting and adapting to innovations, at a speed and scale that is unmatched elsewhere on earth. It’s that aspect of China’s innovation ecosystem—its hundreds of millions of hyper-adoptive and hyper-adaptive consumers—that makes China so globally competitive today. In the end, innovations must be judged by people’s willingness to use them. And on that front China has no peer."
