Ep. 84: Nature and Mental Health with Jesse Cody

Happy Day, Friend! On this week’s podcast episode, I’m talking about mental health. October 10th is World Mental Health Day, and throughout the month of October there are a variety of organizations raising awareness about mental health. As many of you know, mental health awareness is near and dear to my heart, and I wanted to take the opportunity to share an incredibly inspiring journey of how one man's battle with suicidal ideation turned into a life filled with meaning and purpose. My special guest, Jesse Cody, is the founder of the mantra-turned-movement, Hike The Good Hike (HTGH). HTGH is focused on suicide prevention and seeks to help people cultivate positive, nature-based lifestyles. We chat about his life journey with depression and suicidal ideation, and how hiking the entire Appalachian Trail, the longest hiking-only footpath in the world, ranging from Maine to Georgia, over a 7-month period, changed his life. It was on the trail, alone in nature, walking 2,200 miles battling his own tough mental space, that Jesse discovered his purpose – guiding others that also struggle with mental health issues and speaking about the healing power of nature to help shift depression and suicidal ideation from draining the life out of you, to a life filled with meaning, purpose, and ultimately, joy. If you or anyone you know struggle with mental health, I hope Jesse's story inspires you with hope and reassurance, that you are not alone in the mental health fight, and that it is possible to shift difficult and challenging thoughts through the healing power of nature. If you or anyone you know needs professional mental health attention, please contact the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration's hotline: (800) 662-4357Stay connected 👉 @atheadavis on all the social channels. And, don’t forget to subscribe so you can stay tuned in to all the mindful living love.Keep breathing deep and shining bright, Friend! ☀️XO ~ Athea Connect with my guest Jesse Cody 👉 Website and Instagram. P.S.
