Injury prevention and how to care for injuries when they happen, with NFL Senior Medical Advisor, Dr. Robb Rehberg

Did you know that approximately 90 percent of high school student-athletes report sustaining an injury while participating in sports? Injuries happen at all levels, and sometimes when we least expect it. Dr. Robb Rehberg has dedicated his career in athletic training and sports medicine to helping athletes prevent injuries and providing the best possible care when they occur. As the Senior Medical Advisor and Director of Game Day Medical Operations for the National Football League (NFL), Dr. Rehberg has worked his way from high school athletic trainer to advising professionals at the most elite level of sports. In this episode, he discussed how coaches can help prepare their athletes to reduce injury risk, what to do if they happen, the importance of hydration, and more. He is currently a professor of sports medicine and athletic training at William Paterson University of New Jersey and a senior medical advisor and Director of Game Day Operations for the National Football League (NFL). He also served as head athletic trainer at Westwood Regional Junior/Senior High School in Westwood, New Jersey, for 14 years; as a clinical athletic trainer at the Center for Concussion Care at Overlook Medical Center in Summit, New Jersey; and as a high school and youth sport coach. Rehberg has held several leadership positions, including serving as president of the Athletic Trainer's Society of new Jersey and as a member of the Eastern Athletic Trainer's Association and National Athletic Trainer's Association (NATA) District 2 executive boards. Outside of athletic training, Rehberg has served as the director of first aid and emergency preparedness training and program development for the National Safety Council. His contributions and service to sport safety, athletic training, and sports medicine have been recognized through numerous awards, including induction into the halls of fame of both NATA and the Athletic Trainers' Society of New Jersey. Rehberg has authored three textbooks in the field of sports medicine and has edited over a dozen first aid, CPR, and emergency preparedness textbooks and related training programs. He has served as an author or coauthor of dozens of publications and presented over 200 lectures on various topics in sports medicine and emergency care. He has also authored several online education programs, including ConcussionWise, a concussion education program that has trained over 2.5 million coaches, parents, and athletes in 53 countries. He served as executive producer for over a dozen first aid, CPR, and emergency preparedness training programs with the National Safety Council. He is cofounder of two companies: Sport Safety International, an organization dedicated to the safe participation in sport and physical activity through education, and the Rehberg Konin Group, which is the largest group of athletic training legal experts in the world. Speed development, injury rehab, and lessons learned from over 40 years as a coach, with Boo Schexnayder

Legendary track and field coach Boo Schexnayder has had an accomplished career spanning over 40 years, perhaps most notably coaching for Team USA and his 18-year tenure at Louisiana State University. In this episode, coach Schexnayder talks about speed development, coaching jumps, rehabbing injuries, and his experiences as a coach and consultant. He is most noted for his 18-year term on the LSU Track and Field staff. Regarded as one of the world's premier field event coaches, he was the mastermind behind 26 NCAA Champions during his collegiate coaching career and has been a part of 13 NCAA Championship teams and a pair of junior college national titles. On the international scene, Schexnayder has coached 18 Olympians and seven Olympic/World Championship medalists. Importance of implementing functional strength training in physical education programs, with Nate VanKouwenberg

Functional strength training is one of the most beneficial forms of fitness training, but it is often not included in secondary physical education curriculum. Certified Functional Strength Coach and physical education teacher Nate VanKouwenberg has used his knowledge to help educate other teachers in his district in New York and beyond.
