"The Mission" had its world premiere at the Telluride Film Festival and is the follow-up film from co-directing duo Amanda McBaine & Jesse Moss following their work on "Boys State." The documentary follows the story of John Allen Chau, an American missionary who attempted to make contact with one of the world's most isolated Indigenous peoples, the Sentinelese. The film has received positive reviews since its premiere and has positioned itself as a serious Best Documentary Feature Oscar contender by National Geographic Documentary Films. "Anatomy Of A Fall" had its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival, where it won the prestigious Palme d'Or for best film. It received rave reviews for director/writer Justine Triet's tight direction, riveting writing, and Sandra Hüller's commanding performance that straddled a fine line of ambiguity throughout, keeping audiences on the edge of their seats as to whether or not her character committed murder. "Cat Person" had its world premiere at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival, where it received a strong emotional response from some viewers who were familiar with the wildly bizarre 2017 true dating story that inspired it and some who were not. Starring Emilia Jones, Nicholas Braun, Geraldine Viswanathan, Hope Davis, Fred Melamed, and Isabella Rossellini, the film found a US distributor in Rialto Pictures and is now being released in theaters. "Dicks: The Musical" had its world premiere at the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival, where it opened the Midnight Madness section with an audacious, raunchy, over-the-top presentation marking A24's first movie musical to date. "The Creator" is now playing in theaters and contains one of the most fascinating behind-the-scenes production stories of 2023. Shot with a budget of only $80 million, the original sci-fi film from "Godzilla" and "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" director Gareth Edwards has turned quite a few heads in the industry regarding how a blockbuster film can be shot, and its visual effects work be produced efficiently.
