Episode 313: Clip: Dan Siegel, MD. Awareness, Trauma & Trauma Treatment.

I’m very excited this week to have Dr. Dan Siegel back. Dan’s new book, Aware: The Science and Practice of Presence–The Groundbreaking Meditation Practice (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1101993049/ref=as_li_qf_asin_il_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=wescoatrapro-20&creative=9325&linkCode=as2&creativeASIN=1101993049&linkId=e886a8c6747eea474729c950edf67b22)is, is something that’s been on my radar for quite some time as it fits into much of what we discuss here on the podcast. What does it mean to cultivate awareness? Why is it important? And what are the implications both for therapists in general, for for trauma therapists in particular? And how does this impact the client? Dan Siegel is a clinical professor of psychiatry at the UCLA School of Medicine and the founding co-director of the Mindful Awareness Research Center (http://marc.ucla.edu/) at UCLA. An award-winning educator, he is a Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and recipient of several honorary fellowships. Dr. Siegel is also the Executive Director of the Mindsight Institute (https://www.mindsightinstitute.com/?campname=dds-links&camplink=DDSbio), an educational organization, which offers online learning (http://mindsightinstitute.com/online_courses?campname=dds-links&camplink=DDSbio) and in-person seminars (http://mindsightinstitute.com/immersion-weekends?campname=dds-links&camplink=DDSbio) that focus on how the development of mindsight (http://www.drdansiegel.com/about/mindsight/) in individuals, families and communities can be enhanced by examining the interface of human relationships and basic biological processes.Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/the-trauma-therapist-podcast-with-guy-macpherson-phd-inspiring-interviews-with-thought-leaders-in-the-field-of-trauma/exclusive-contentBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-trauma-therapist--5739761/support.---Thank you for listening! If you want to support the show, I've got three options and every bit helps.$5.00 PayPalhttps://www.paypal.com/ncp/payment/NPKS32G8KVSN2$10.00 PayPalhttps://www.paypal.com/ncp/payment/495AMDFXQFC3L$15.00 PayPalhttps://www.paypal.com/ncp/payment/M7V5RREUKVD8JThank you to our Sponsors: Jane App - use code GUY1MO at https://jane.app (https://jane.app/book_a_demo)

Episode 311: Victor Yalom. The Art of Psychotherapy

My goal with The Trauma Therapist Project--the podcast, Trauma Therapist | 2.0, and my online course, Inner-Work For The New Trauma Worker--has always been to raise the awareness of trauma, and to help support, educate and inspire new trauma therapists. This week I'm continuing that mission, albeit with something different. A few weeks ago I reached out to Victor Yalom of psychotherapy.net and inquired about partnering with him to bring my listeners one of his most popular online courses, Irvin Yalom and the Art of Psychotherapy (http://psychotherapy.net/trauma). I thought this would be a great chance for you to learn from a master therapist. Irvin Yalom (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Irvin_D._Yalom), is a prolific author, well-known for integrating existentialism into his work, as well as for working in the here and now. It is these latter two elements which are integral to working with those who’ve been impacted by trauma, and the reason I wanted to partner with Victor to bring this course to you. In this episode I talk to Victor, the son of Irvin Yalom, and himself, a licensed psychologist with over 25 years of experience, and the founder and CEO of Psychotherapy.net. Victor shares his personal story of what inspired him to get into the field of psychotherapy, and then eventually found psychotherapy.net. Victor gives us a peek into this incredible course, Irvin Yalom and the Art of Psychotherapy (http://psychotherapy.net/trauma), and also offers The Trauma Therapist | Podcast listeners a unique discount.Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/the-trauma-therapist-podcast-with-guy-macpherson-phd-inspiring-interviews-with-thought-leaders-in-the-field-of-trauma/exclusive-contentBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-trauma-therapist--5739761/support.---Thank you for listening! If you want to support the show, I've got three options and every bit helps.$5.00 PayPalhttps://www.paypal.com/ncp/payment/NPKS32G8KVSN2$10.00 PayPalhttps://www.paypal.com/ncp/payment/495AMDFXQFC3L$15.00 PayPalhttps://www.paypal.com/ncp/payment/M7V5RREUKVD8JThank you to our Sponsors: Jane App - use code GUY1MO at https://jane.app (https://jane.app/book_a_demo)

Episode 304: Meditation, Healing & Trauma. Lynn Fraser

My guest this week is Lynn Fraser. Lynn’s story involves overcoming PTSD acquired when she was punched off of her bicycle by a mentally ill stranger as she rode to work one morning. Since that experience and the unfolding of her healing journey, she’s become an anchor to support people’s journeys as they begin to live from their own innate wisdom and basic goodness. Lynn learned that those of us with difficult childhoods are more likely to develop PTSD and it is this that inspires her own deeper healing, that of her clients, and the reason she wrote her book, Friends With Your Mind: How to Stop Torturing Yourself With Your Thoughts (Breathe, Relax, Heal) (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0995865213/ref=as_li_qf_asin_il_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=wescoatrapro-20&creative=9325&linkCode=as2&creativeASIN=0995865213&linkId=4d5712816b5bfc7b0d4dddc2763ec2b2).Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/the-trauma-therapist-podcast-with-guy-macpherson-phd-inspiring-interviews-with-thought-leaders-in-the-field-of-trauma/exclusive-contentBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-trauma-therapist--5739761/support.---Thank you for listening! If you want to support the show, I've got three options and every bit helps.$5.00 PayPalhttps://www.paypal.com/ncp/payment/NPKS32G8KVSN2$10.00 PayPalhttps://www.paypal.com/ncp/payment/495AMDFXQFC3L$15.00 PayPalhttps://www.paypal.com/ncp/payment/M7V5RREUKVD8JThank you to our Sponsors: Jane App - use code GUY1MO at https://jane.app (https://jane.app/book_a_demo)

Episode 303: The Business of Therapy with John Clarke

I rarely dedicate podcast episodes to business stuff. There are plenty of other podcasts out there that specialize in that. Nevertheless, I decided to change that for this episode and invite John Clarke on the podcast. John is a licensed therapist, business coach, and wordsmith for therapists who helps therapists fill the empty slots on their calendars and overcome their fears of digital marketing. He’s learned a lot of things the hard way in multiple practices from the ground up in highly competitive regions of the country, and started writing about those lessons at PrivatePracticeWorkshop.com (http://privatepracticeworkshop.com/). Today, John owns a thriving private pay group practice in Charlotte, NC and is the founder of Unconditional Media, the digital marketing team for therapists in private practice nationwide.Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/the-trauma-therapist-podcast-with-guy-macpherson-phd-inspiring-interviews-with-thought-leaders-in-the-field-of-trauma/exclusive-contentBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-trauma-therapist--5739761/support.---Thank you for listening! If you want to support the show, I've got three options and every bit helps.$5.00 PayPalhttps://www.paypal.com/ncp/payment/NPKS32G8KVSN2$10.00 PayPalhttps://www.paypal.com/ncp/payment/495AMDFXQFC3L$15.00 PayPalhttps://www.paypal.com/ncp/payment/M7V5RREUKVD8JThank you to our Sponsors: Jane App - use code GUY1MO at https://jane.app (https://jane.app/book_a_demo)
