Reducing Excess Glutamate Works Wonders
I am so excited to welcome Andi Stowe onto the podcast. Our journeys parallel in so many ways, and I'm excited to share her story of faith, hope, and healing. Today, we're discussing how reducing excess Glutamate in a child's diet with Autism can help reduce symptoms, behaviors and restore balance. Glutamate is an amino acid found in food and the most abundant neurotransmitter in the body. You might be more familiar with it than you think, as it is a food additive used to enhance flavor, commonly known as MSG. However, due to food processing and deceptive labeling, you may be consuming far more than you realize. When in excess, glutamate can have harmful effects on the body, especially in children with neurological sensitivities. Andi shares her story about how overhauling her son's diet dramatically changed his health for the better. It goes back to parents being the detectives for their children and working hard to be the best advocates they can.We discuss the importance of reading ingredient labels (and how to do it) and ultimately having the faith that the behaviors our children are exhibiting are actually a blessing to help guide us in the best ways to heal them.Tune in to our enlightening conversation and consider- could excess glutamate be contributing to your child’s (or even your) health issue?Key TakeawaysAndi’s experience reducing glutamate in her child’s diet (03:20)Figuring out the next steps after changes in diet (10:10)Andi’s blog to document her experience (15:40)Finding the balance with our children (22:00)Noticing the dramatic impact diet has on behavior and health (29:09)Read the ingredient lists (33:00)Recognizing and having the faith that an Autism diagnosis can be a blessing (41:30)Additional ResourcesTo learn more about Andi and her story and the amazing resources she shares check out her website Nourished BlessingsTo watch the Dr. Katherine Reid TED Talk on Glutamates, click hereTo learn more about Cass & Len’s Community of All-In Parents, click hereWant to be Unstoppable? Homeopathy CAN Work Miracles
This week, we talked with Amy Lansky, who wrote the book "Impossible Cure". We discuss an overview of homeopathy and how it can help a child with Autism (and the parent as well). This episode we connected with Amy Lansky. Amy Lansky is an author and her first book is “Impossible Cure”. This book changed our life and was truly an important piece of our autism puzzle. We discuss an overview of homeopathy and how it can help a child with Autism (and truly anyone). Amy shares her discovery of homeopathy and offers a brief history of its relationship with western medicine. Homeopathy is really unknown in comparison to western or allopathic medicine. Amy argues that not only is homeopathy a credible medical practice but that it can especially be beneficial to more sensitive individuals such as children with Autism. At its core, the mission of homeopathic medicine is to assist the body in healing itself. We all have the power of healing living within us, but it's up to us to tap into it and find the right remedy for our wellness journey. Amy and I discuss how parents can formulate a strategy to help their children and what things they should consider when preparing for an appointment with a homeopath. Warriors Are ALL-IN
Why Warrior? In this episode we go deep on the term "Warrior" and how it has nothing to do with War. A Warrior is all about a parent’s love for their child and their willingness to go ALL-IN. You've heard us say it repeatedly, so we thought it was time to take a deep dive into what it truly means to be a warrior parent. At its core, a warrior parent accepts and loves their child as they are. And their focus is to do everything in their power to set their child up for success. Their primary goal is to create an environment that provides the best opportunity for healing and progress and true connection. This work isn't easy and frequently requires a lot of un-learning on the parents' part. It usually means choosing the path less traveled. It often requires breaking through the limitations that others put on their child. In this episode, we're going over the characteristics of the warrior parent, why it's essential to find a great support network, and practices you can start TODAY to ensure you are showing up for your child in the best way possible. Dirty electricity is an invisible toxin that impacts everyone, but kids on the spectrum are especially susceptible to harm. Dr. Milham shares his findings on its impact on children with Autism and how it affects parents and children as early as their time in utero. The good news is that there are practical methods to limit its exposure and better protect your family from these harmful EMF's. SUPPORT Is The Missing Link
This week's episode is part 2 of our discussion with our client, Helen Shanley. We discuss how support is the missing link parents need on their healing journeys. Parents often just try to manage on their own in isolation. It's hard to ask for support. But for those willing to be supported, so much more is possible! Helen's story is a testament to just that. She and her son have an incredible story of healing and hope, and so much of it can be credited to her focus on support. Helen shares why she now relies on her own wisdom for her son's care and the growth that she's experienced by working through her limiting beliefs. Tune into this week's episode to learn more about her reflections and how you, too, can adopt a supportive practice for your family!Key TakeawaysHow support played an important part in their journey (02:00)Why Helen now relies on her innate wisdom (08:20)Our kids know what they need (11:40) Reflecting on the journey so far (21:10)Focus on supporting your child rather than fixing them (26:30)Crushing through to limiting beliefs (29:15)Additional ResourcesAre You Running On All Cylinders? Small Steps + Less Pressure = BIG Progress
This week, we have a special episode for you all! We talked with our client, Helen Shanley from Ireland. She just completed our 12-week intensive program. She shares her transformation, and how taking small steps while putting less pressure on herself was huge. It paved the way for her to transform, which gave her son the space to make huge gains! The feedback we get from our clients is gratifying and always offers us a fresh and interesting perspective to the journey we're all on as parents. Our discussion with Helen starts with some of the feelings she had to navigate when her son was first given an Autism diagnosis. Feelings that you may be familiar with--the grief, loneliness, and uncertainty that is so often attached to raising a child with specific challenges. She details those initial emotions and her decision not to allow a diagnosis to define her family's quality of life. She went from putting immense pressure on herself to be the perfect parent taking all the right steps and making sure her child was doing all of the "right things to letting go and taking one step at a time.We talk about the unintentional pressure we put on ourselves and children and some self-care tips we can implement to help keep us grounded and refreshed.
