It's media day in our year-end 3 Martini Lunch awards and Jim and Greg have plenty to say about how things were covered - if they were covered at all. Specifically, they look at the stories the mainstream media covered far too much, the ones they conveniently ignored because they didn't fit their narrative, and they highlight what they saw as the best stories of 2025.First, they dig into the most overreported stories of the year, with Jim choosing a constant drumbeat from the mainstream media to help get a truly radical candidate elected in New York City. Greg says the media's obsession with turning every Trump story into a possible scandal is non-stop, but there was one incredibly inconsequential construction project in Washington that they just could not shut up about. Then it's on to the stories the media didn't cover much or didn't want to cover. Jim points to the scant media attention given to the remarkable educational advancements happening in Mississippi. Greg focuses on the media's yawning over the persecution of Christians, even when Trump and the pope are speaking out against it.Finally, they reveal their selections for best stories of the year. Jim focuses on the biggest diplomatic achievement of the year, was more than two years in the making, and brought relief or closure to many families. Today, they offer up their selections for the Best Political Idea, Worst Political Idea, and Boldest Political Tactics for the year. They start with the best ideas of the year. Jim applauds those who are advancing the cutting edge technology that will rapidly change our world. Greg cheers on those fighting to eliminate the most unfair tax of all.Then it's time for the worst political ideas of the year. Jim quickly zeroes in on a big aspect of the Trump economic agenda that may well be hurting the president's own efforts to bring prices down. Greg chides Trump for picking a fight with closest neighbors at a time when the lefties there were about to implode. Jim focuses on a political campaign that was built on multiple lies and media doing virtually nothing to call any of it out. Greg's choice centers on a statement from a top administration official that led to major blowback from President Trump's own officials.Then it's time for the best political theater of 2025, with Jim choosing something President Trump does a lot that President Biden avoided whenever possible. Greg suggests theater isn't exactly the right description for his moment, as he focuses on the powerful statement of Erika Kirk at her husband's memorial service.Finally, they cringe remembering the worst political theater of 2025. Jim points out a prominent Democrat politician who was totally AWOL when she was most needed by her constituents. The 48-year-old Portuguese immigrant was found dead in New Hampshire in an apparent suicide. Jim and Greg walk through the confirmed facts, explain that some early theories were not correct, and go over the unanswered questions.Next, they welcome the conviction of Wisconsin Judge Hannah Dugan on felony obstruction of justice charges for helping an illegal immigrant exit her courtroom in an unusual manner so ICE agents waiting in the courthouse lobby could not detain him.
