ECM Five Minute Maxims for Men - Strive Today to Hea r- ‘Well Done, Good and Faithful Servant"
Go to EveryCatholicMan.com and find tools and resources to help you become a better Catholic Son and Catholic Father. Grow in holiness and happiness in 2026! Check out the critically acclaimed new book, Becoming a Happier Catholic Man - 2026.We live in a material world surrounded by noise, possessions, and constant comparisons. From a young age, many of us are taught to make our own way—to build a name, succeed, impress, and be approved by others. We begin to crave praise. The applause of friends, the compliments at work, the admiration on social media. It feels good, and we chase it. But that hunger for worldly affirmation subtly drives us to do only the things the world rewards, and to avoid anything that might get us rejected. But the world’s values don’t lead to Heaven. In fact, Jesus warns that following Him will divide people—even within families—and may cost you comfort, reputation, or relationships: “Do not think that I have come to bring peace… I have not come to bring peace, but a sword” (Mt 10:34, RSVCE). For two thousand years, saints and martyrs have been scorned by the world, yet honored in Heaven. When you aim to please the crowd, you risk ignoring the will of God. When you live to be holy, you often displease the world—but you please the King.Jesus won’t ask how many awards you earned, followers you had, or promotions you secured. He will ask if you served Him with faithfulness and love. The only approval that matters forever is His. So today, work to hear these words from the Savior: “Well done, good and faithful servant… enter into the joy of your master” (Mt 25:23, RSVCE).ChallengeToday, resist the temptation to seek the world’s praise. Choose one action—whether at work, in your family, or in your parish—that will likely go unnoticed by others but will please Christ. Offer it to Him alone, and seek only His approval.Pray: Lord Jesus Christ, my God and my King, grant me the Virtue of Magnanimity so that I may constantly strive to do the great work You have equipped me to do. Free me from chasing the applause of the world, and make me hunger only for Your approval. May I live each day so that I may hear You say, “Well done, good and faithful servant… enter into the joy of your master.” Amen.
