This episode we are joined by Craig Borgland - CEO & Chairman of Eagle Pass Heliskiing & Highrock Resources.Craig graduated from the University of Calgary with a degree in applied energy economics and has built and sold numerous energy companies, including Market Energy, Landex Petroleum, Highrock Energy and Highrock Resources. A few of Craig's previous board positions include director of Shelter Bay Energy (Purchased by Crescent Point in 2010 for $1.1 billion), Catapult Environmental, Canadian Energy Insurance Reciprocal and Totem Drilling Ltd. Grumans has been serving the Calgary area delicious Jewish-inspired deli food since 2005. Started by Peter Fraiberg, and named after his mother’s side of the family, he is now joined by his sister Gail at their new location in Britannia. From the age of six, Kelsey progressed in the Alpine Ski Racing world and in 2008, was named to the Women’s National Development Team for Canada.In 2009, Kelsey transitioned to Ski Cross, instantaneously making a name for herself- earning the “FIS Rookie of the Year” award while making the Canadian National Ski Cross Team. This time we are joined by Brady Leman - Olympic Gold Medalist and Member of the Canadian National Ski Cross Team.Brady was born and raised in Calgary, Alberta and grew up ski racing- but later switched to the sport of ski cross after he spotted an opportunity in an emerging sport. This bet has paid off for Brady, as he has become one of the leading ski cross athletes in the world and one of Canada's best skier's in general. #4: Hopkins Harvest (How to Get Happy Customers & Hard Work)
Today we are joined by Kerstan Hopkins and her partner Matt Larsen- owners of Hopkins Harvest & The Hot Spot- a farm to table market and wood fired pizza oven located in Windermere, British Colombia.Started in 1995 by Kerstan's father - Fred Hopkins- who having grown tired of the local supermarket selection of lousy produce brought up from the US and Mexico, spotted a market opportunity to bring in fresh produce from the Okanagan Valley to sell in the Colombia Valley.The market began with humble beginnings, but business grew slowly and the market moved into steadily larger spaces until it current location now, located just off of Highway 95 outside of Windermere. In 2014, Hopkins Harvest added a wood fired pizza oven making some of the best pizza in the Colombia Valley. Sadly however, Fred Hopkins passed away in 2017, but his daughter - Kerstan, and partner Matt have continued on the business. In 2019 revenues reached just under $2 million dollars with Kerstan and Matt continuously thinking of new and exciting products to add.We sat down for a smooth cup of rose bros coffee and talked about the challenges of running a business in a seasonal town, the importance of hard work, and the fulfillment of customers enjoying their high quality products.
