GABE WANDER | Maintain Eye Contact While Shaking Hands (Ep. 291)
In this episode, we welcome Gabe Wander to the show. Gabe is a retired Army Major and combat veteran. After enlisting in the Army at 17, he eventually became an Officer and Nurse Anesthesiologist with a JSOC unit at Fort Bragg. That unit is the only Tier 1 unit that provides direct medical support to JSOC special missions units. During a workup, he had a near fatal parachute injury that required several emergency surgeries, and he remained hospitalized for nearly a month. During his recovery, he wondered what lessons he would choose to pass on to his children if he were to ever die in combat. That culminated in him writing a children’s book: Maintain Eye Contact While Shaking Hands: A Message to Boys on Being a Man.
