Rooting for Chaos & Chase Young for Heisman
The Yahoo Sports College Podcast rolls on as Dan Wetzel, Pete Thamel and Nick Bromberg pick up the slack left by Pat Forde who is probably still drinking beers at the Sierra Nevada Brewery on vacation. Last week the Sooner Schooner crashed. This week? The actual Sooners crashed in the Little Apple as Kansas State upended Oklahoma 48-41. (4:28) Is the Big 12 eliminated from payoff contention? (Sorry, Baylor) The guys then turn to the massive Tiger tilt where LSU held off Auburn, 23-20, in Death Valley. With UGA and Bama still ahead, will Auburn keep Gus Malzahn if the Tigers finish 8-4? (14:48)Back above the Mason-Dixon Line, Ohio State dominated Wisconsin 38-7 behind a monster performance from defensive end Chase Young. Does he truly have a case for a trip to New York? (28:08)Speaking of the Heisman, Pete, Nick and Dan also pick their weekly trophy winners before they attempt to say something nice… for once. Tua Conspiracy Theories, Double Ambien and Week 9 Preview
This Race for the Case edition of the Yahoo Sports College Podcast kicks off with conspiracy theories on Nick Saban, Bill Belichick and Tua Tagovailoa as well as an ode to the return of big noon games. Dan Wetzel then gives Pat Forde and Pete Thamel a rundown of the bachelor party he is apart of heading to Tuscaloosa for the latest “Game of the Century” between LSU and Bama. (5:36)The guys then reverse the clock and preview the Wisconsin at Ohio State game this weekend. The matchup may have lost some luster, but will Ohio State’s offense continue to shine against the Badgers? (15:59)Pete, Pat and Dan also debate if: 1. Coaches make too much money & 2. If ugly coaches make too much. (27:33)The dynamic trio later voices their concern for Oklahoma State’s coach, Mike Gundy, after he says he is taking a double dose of Ambien to sleep in-season. (22:13)They wrap the pod by picking the biggest matchup against the spread in the Race for the Case. (38:26) See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Dan Wetzel, Pat Forde and Pete Thamel go around the nation and review the landscape-changing action from Week 8.The guys begin in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, where the Tide topped the Vols 35-13 but all of the focus is on Tua Tagovailoa’s ankle injury and Jeremy Pruitt’s facemask tug. Will the Alabama signal-caller really be ready by the LSU game? (7:11)Pete, Pat and Dan then recap Illinois’ shocking upset of previously unbeaten Wisconsin. Why didn’t Paul Chryst and the Badgers ice the game away on the ground? (25:49)Staying in the Big 10, Penn State outlasted Michigan 28-21. Prison Breaks and Midseason Predictions
On this edition of the Yahoo Sports College Podcast, Dan Wetzel, Pat Forde and Pete Thamel head to the clink … sort of. They begin with the wild story out of Tuscaloosa, where a Harvey Updyke impersonator called LSU’s Tiger Stadium with a threat during the Florida game this past Saturday. (00:51) The guys later retell the tale of inmates who broke out of prison with the intent of returning with nothing but a bottle of whiskey and cell phones. What would Pat, Pete and Dan bring back to cellblock B? (42:21) From the Pen to pigskin predictions, the guys pick their four teams headed to the playoff at the halfway point before they play chaos theory and guess which matchup will trip up their picks. They also predict who is the next Power Five coach that will be shown the door. (15:23) Tennessee coach Jeremy Pruitt made headlines again after joking he should strictly implement on-side kicks in order to keep the ball away from Alabama on Saturday. Is there a team in college football that should actually attempt this strategy? (37:20) Dan, Pat and Pete put a cap on the podcast by picking the week’s biggest games against the spread. Will Pat come back in the Race for the Case? (51:58) See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Overreaction Monday: Who deserves the No. 1 spot & Ranking Dumbasses
On this edition of Overreaction Monday, Dan Wetzel, Pat Forde and Pete Thamel react to the giant weekend that was by asking which remaining undefeated team deserves the No. 1 overall ranking. (10:09)Pete also lets down Dan and Pat in a big way after he lets the guys in on his “adventures” this weekend covering the Red River Shootout in Dallas. Following Michigan State’s 38-0 beatdown at the hands of Wisconsin, Spartan head coach Mark Dantonio called out a reporter for asking a valid question about his decision to reshuffle his coaching staff. This sparks the first (but not last) edition of “Rank the Dumbasses”. (25:30)Pat, Pete and Dan end the show by giving out their weekly Heisman award and attempting to say something nice about a few teams that really, really needed it. The Red River Shootout, Pruitt's Police & Fat Bear Week
Dan Wetzel, Pete Thamel and Pat Forde begin in Tennessee where the second-year head coach, Jeremy Pruitt, showed again that he isn't ready for the SEC as an early morning call involving one of his players and a police officer didn't show the Vols' head man in the best light. (3:50)The guys then dive head-first into the huge slate of Week 7 games. In Dallas, Oklahoma is set to take on Texas in the annual Red River SHOOTOUT. Is the Texas State Fair the drunkest atmosphere that doesn't involve LSU fans? (14:35) Pat, Pete and Dan also debate which wacky deep-fried foods they will guzzle when they step foot on the fairgrounds. (22:11)Speaking of LSU, the Tigers host the seventh-ranked Florida Gators in the highest-ranked matchup of the weekend. Who will prevail in the heavyweight battle between the LSU offense and the UF defense? (30:43)The guys also give you the in-depth analysis you didn't know you ever needed on the Fat Bear Week Bracket (35:56) before they throw out their picks against the spread. Overreaction Monday: Toss Clemson out of the playoff, Maryland, Nebraska & Rutgers out of the Big 10
Dan Wetzel, Pete Thamel and Pat Forde review all of the action from this past weekend and fire off a mean take or two along the way. After being outscored by a combined 159-7, Nebraska, Maryland and Rutgers are still licking their wounds as the guys consider if the Big 10 should even keep the newcomers in the league. (00:29) The Scarlet Knights might turn to their former hero, Greg Schiano, to lead them out of the depths of the Big 10. Would he even take the job? (19:28) Ohio State might be the hottest team in the country. Are they playoff-bound? (23:28)On the other side of the coin, the defending champs, Clemson, have looked less-than-stellar. Do the Tigers have to run the table to make the playoff? (32:43)Pat, Pete, and Dan also cover Auburn’s Boobee Whitlow attacking Mississippi State’s mascot (27:31), Will Muschamp’s hilarious reason for using reading glasses (39:51), and this week’s small-sample Heisman winner.
