Just another manic Monday in the NFL (8/24)

Today's word of the day is 'altercation' as in Earl Thomas gets into a fight in practice and the Baltimore Ravens choose to release him. Now a legal battle will take place over the money the team could owe Thomas. So how are these altercations handled inside the front office? Let's talk more about releasing players (0:06). This time it comes in MLB when the San Francisco Giants decided to DFA Hunter Pence. What does this mean? Why did Gabe Kapler say what he said after this happened (10:10)? MLB is seven days away from the MLB Trade Deadline. Who are buyers? Who are sellers? Who is here to just BS their fans (18:47)? Review - Yellowstone Season 3 (31:30). Anything else happening in the NFL? Nightmares. It came out that 77 players tested positive for coronavirus across 11 different teams! That's bad. Oh it came from a testing lab in New Jersey and it got all the results wrong? Oh all those players who tested positive had their retest come back negative? Perfect (34:08). So You Wanna Talk To Samson!? Someone asked me for my thoughts on the recent interview Roger Goodell did speaking about Colin Kaepernick. He even released a statement about it on Monday morning (41:00). #waittosee---------------------------'Nothing Personal with David Samson' is available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, Google Podcasts, Castbox, Bullhorn and wherever else you listen to podcasts.  Follow David on Twitter: @DavidPSamson To watch David on CBS Sports HQ visit https://www.cbssports.com/live/To hear more from the CBS Sports Podcast Network, visit https://www.cbssports.com/podcasts/https://www.youtube.com/nothingpersonalwithdavidsamson Learn more about your ad choices. Your favorite MLB team STINKS (8/21)

Today's word of the day is 'jackson' as in Janet Jackson as in what have you done for me lately. What's going on with your favorite MLB team? How mad are you at the offseason signings or the lack of signings or guys you hate who are doing great? Well, let's run through some teams and talk about why your team stinks. The Marlins were the team of the century and now... they stink (0:06)! And the New York Mets had someone test positive so their series with the Marlins is now over and their series against the Yankees is postponed. Perfect (2:03). How about those Yankees? It looks like everyday someone new is on the IL for them. Judge, Stanton, Paxton, Torres... who else (8:00)!? Update on Thom Brennaman. His career is toast... or it should be (13:04). Our old friend Joe Maddon is back in the show today.. why? Because the Angels STINK! Absolutely stink. $245M to Rendon, $426M for Mike Trout. What a mess (15:22). How about the Phillies? STINK! All that spending and no results to show for it (22:54). Review - We Are Freestyle Love Supreme (28:15). NBA free agency could be delayed. This is going to be a nightmare for teams (31:30). Raptors president Masai Ujiri released a statement after the video was made public. This is powerful and presidential (35:35). We'll end the show today with Derrius Guice. Released by the Washington Football Team for an arrest, charged with assault, battery, and felony strangulation. Could he be any worse? Yes, yes he can. Now two former LSU women allege he raped them when he was there. This is disturbing. This is awful. This should never happen (40:02). The easiest way to get fired (8/20)

Today's word of the day is 'Castellanos' as in Nick Castellanos as in the worst home run call of all time as in what was Thom Brennaman thinking! Last night he was broadcasting for the Cincinnati Reds against the Kansas City Royals and he got caught on a hot mic using a homophobic slur. Panic spread. Things happened. He was caught. So what did he do? He tried giving an apology on air and in the middle of that apology, Nick Castellanos hit a home run, and Thom STOPPED HIS APOLOGY to call the home run! What happens now (0:06))? Business. The Big Ten is a straight 'clusterduck' (darn autocorrect) - what's been happening lately with that conference? Mayhem. Let's get you up to speed (28:25). Review - The Lost Husband (38:35). Pirates president Travis Williams has tested positive for coronavirus. The team released a statement. Today has been the show of statements so let's end with one (42:35). My plan for an MLB postseason bubble (8/19)

Today's word of the day is 'bubblicious' as in immediate burst of flavor as in bubble gum as in how would an MLB bubble work. Well, I'm glad you asked. This is how a postseason bubble could work. And if you see that an MLB bubble is actually happening, just remember you heard all the details here first (0:06). So let's now talk about the NBA bubble. It has worked... no positive tests, no fans, tons of games... it works... BUT what's happening with the best teams in the bubble. It hasn't been good. Raptors president Masai Ujiri is filing a countersuit against an Alameda County sheriff for what transpired after the Toronto won the championship in Golden State. Video was released yesterday that was shocking and scary. Urjiri was sued by an Alameda County sheriff back in 2019 and now that we see the footage... it's a joke. But not a funny one at all (16:45). What's happening with the Charlotte Hornets? Well, one of the team's broadcasters is now suspended for tweeting a racial slur. He said it was by accident, but that's not how this works (29:38). Review - Running Down a Dream (36:30). An update on the Rangers-Padres drama. We need to stop with all the headhunting. It's bad for the sport (41:00). MLB has to get rid of that unwritten rulebook (8/18)

Today's word of the day is 'unwritten' as in baseball's unwritten rules. It's time to burn that book. Kill it with fire. Fernando Tatis Jr. hit a grandslam up 10-3 in the 8th inning against the Texas Rangers and all hell broke loose. What a sham (0:06). Speaking about coaches and managers.... Joe Judge is making his training camp debut as the New York Giants head coach and he wants NO names on practice jersey. Why? Because coaches love these ridiculous things (15:01). So You Wanna Talk To Samson!? Someone asked me if all these reports about All Star weekend in 2021 for the NBA was to be postponed because of hotel reservations being canceled (21:15). Review - Project Power (32:20). Now let's talk about some fans. NFL is ready to come back and the Chiefs say 22 percent capacity, Cowboys want the boxes full, MLB still says no fans, SEC set up rules and regulations for fans... fans, fans, fans! How will any of this work (36:10)? College football has lost its collective mind! (8/17)

Today's word of the day is 'petition' as in Ohio State QB Justin Fields started a petition asking the Big Ten to un-cancel the 2020 season. Parents of players from Ohio State, Michigan, Nebraska, Penn State, and Iowa all sent letters to Big Ten Commissioner Kevin Warren asking, sorry, demanding answers about the canceled season. This is ridiculous. What is going on (0:06)? So... how are the Red Sox doing this year? WOOF! But hey, they had the infamous team meeting outside their hotel. Chaim Bloom spoke to the media about how bad things have gone (12:30). Good thing for the Red Sox is that the Cleveland Indians are an even bigger disaster story. Mike Clevinger and Zach Plesac were optioned down because the team needed to do something. Why would the Indians do this? Well, because their own teammates were willing to opt-out from the season if it didn't happen. What (19:05)? Review - Detroit (26:00). The Washington Football Team has hired the first black president in NFL history. Why do you think Dan Snyder did this? Let's talk about the hiring of Jason Wright (30:10). MLB's season is already 1/3 finished. If you blinked you missed it. Yet, here we are still getting new coronavirus rules. Perfect. I would like to take this time to talk about two of my favorite people in the world of Major League Baseball... Scott Boras and Trevor Bauer (36:10). Samson Sit-Down: Jayson Stark | The State of MLB

Jayson Stark joins Nothing Personal for a conversation on the state of MLB in 2020. He is a senior baseball writer for The Athletic. He and David discuss how irregular the season has been, the injury problem, and where teams stand ahead of the trade deadline.---------------------------'Nothing Personal with David Samson' is available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, Google Podcasts, Castbox, Bullhorn and wherever else you listen to podcasts. From the NFL to MLB: you can't stop players from being players (8/14)

Today's word of the day is 'nailed' as in he got nailed as in Kemah Siverand, rookie for the Seattle Seahawks, was just cut on Thursday for breaking team rules. What were those rules? Well, he got caught sneaking a woman into the team's hotel. NOT JUST THAT! It was reported that she was dressed in disguise in Seahawks clothing! WHAT (0:06)!? So Cleveland Indians pitcher Zach Plesac released a video on social media and he did EVERYTHING wrong. He blamed everyone, but himself for his own actions. This is a terrible look (7:04). Mark Emmert has finally spoken! The NCAA has woken him up from his slumber and he speaks (18:57)! So You Wanna Talk To Samson!? Someone asked me how I felt about the booing that went on during the FC Dallas v. Nashville game in Dallas whilst both teams kneeled during the National Anthem (24:43). Review - Summerland (35:30). St. Louis Cardinals are back to playing baseball. What impact will this have on the rest of the league (40:00)? The NFL goes where Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys take it (8/13)

Today's word of the day is 'grace' as in Jerry Jones is back as in the NFL is back. So what did he have to say? Well, he talked about showing 'grace' when talking about kneeling for the anthem, he talked about not giving Dak Prescott a new deal, and he talked about getting fans in the stands. So now what happens? Whatever Jerry wants (0:06). Then you look at what's going on in the NBA bubble and you realize how wrong Jerry Jones is. Patrick Beverly was very vocal because of the grief he's been dealing with with things going on in Chicago. His quote was very direct and very deep. We need to all look at ourselves and our fandom. I made mistakes in my career when dealing with players and their personal problems. I realize now how wrong I was (10:45). So You Wanna Talk To Samson!? Joe Kelly recently went on Ross Stripling's podcast and had some choice words about the Houston Astros. So someone asked me if the Astros now have a bigger beef with the Los Angeles Dodgers than the Dodgers had with the Astros. This is a good one (28:41). Review - What We Do In The Shadows (32:25). Let's end the show with more bubble talk because the NBA is doing something that's SO insane it just makes you laugh (38:10). College football is making MLB look like a perfect league (8/12)

Today's word of the day is 'cornhuskers' as in Nebraska as in what in the world is that school doing. The Big Ten decided to cancel the fall season and now Nebraska wants to go rogue. Do they not care about the wellbeing of their athletes? The Big Ten as a conference took a stand and Nebraska has been shameful in this decision. I need to explain to everybody what is going on with college football, why unions will NOT work, and why nobody is listening (0:06). And now back to some bubble talk. Reports are out that MLB might want a bubble for the 2020 postseason. I wonder where you've heard that before... Well, will a bubble work if players can't follow rules right now? The Cleveland Indians are dealing with this issue now. Now that Mike Clevinger and Zach Plesac have been put on the restricted list by the team Francisco Lindor has spoken up about how ashamed he is (17:27). Review - Grey's Anatomy (30:05). NHL talk! NHL talk! Come and get your NHL talk! I find it completely unacceptable that two teams had to play a 5OT playoff game. There's a better way than that (33:40). Let's end today talking about the Boston Red Sox. We've talked a lot about Mookie Betts, but how are things going for the Red Sox with the players they traded for (41:55)?
