In The Business of Healthy Masculinity

Today, Saturday 5th August 2023, I record an intuitive podcast episode following my first session with my new communications coach, Elzet Blaauw.I didn’t realise that I was looking for a communications coach, but what I did know is that I have had ‘translation’ issues for a long time. Indeed, my good friend Jo Hompstead and I have spoken about this very topic, often, as we have sought to communicate the transformational power of the ‘Spaces’ that we have held over the past few years.You see, my inability to communicate with clarity can, at times, lead to me coming across as judgemental, a very extractive state.So a little meandering podcast reflection today that I hope you find some value in.PS - My task from Elzet this week was to review the pains and gains, as per the value proposition canvas, with regards the people I am most trying to serve and the first pass looks as follows:I am curious what elements you see in yourself and those around you?Let me know in the comments.I see so much of the pains (yellow) in my colleagues and peers across the extractive industries today, but also know first-hand how much of the gains (green) we can access when we allow ourselves to feel, to connect head, heart and gut and practice that vulnerability muscle. This podcast is mainly narration of a blog that I wrote after the May 4th 2023 UK local elections, layered with further insight as we see workplace and political narratives worsen with regards to their binary nature, shutting down possibility and imagination.This podcast episode is offered as a reflective, slowed down, constructively challenging space to try and open up our thinking and curiosity beyond the conditioned binary. What could be possible for people, business and planet if we came from a place of imagination, wonder, curiosity, vulnerability and connectedness more often?Above is a picture of the Dartford & Gravesham Green Party team who attended the local elections on May 4th 2023 when Cllr Laura Edie was re-elected as the first Green Party councillor in their own right in the Dartford area. One of the biggest challenges that we had as a party was navigating the local Conservative parties push on binary either/or thinking around topics such as ULEZ.Below is a tweet from Conservative MP Grant Shapps from Tuesday 1st August 2023 where they share a range of binary either/or messages with no space, nor desire to have space, for nuance.I would like to add that there is no intention to try and sway you in any direction politically. Hospicing Extractivism within Ourselves and Industry is focused on inviting curiosity, community and remembering of our agency, power and voice at a time of societal, environmental and workplace collapse. We are the seeds of the future.
