In this episode, Rich and cohosts Joe Ayler and Julia Chang have a conversation with Daniel Hess.Daniel is a filmmaker and writer from Baltimore, Maryland. Born with a condition known as aortic valve stenosis, Daniel found an early calling in the catharsis of creativity. He lost his cousin/best friend to cystic fibrosis when he was 10 and ever since has felt a deeper calling in life. Over the years, Daniel has produced numerous award-winning short films and self-published two books (Just a Boy Blaming Himself and Focus Puller - his debut novel). In this episode, Rich has a conversation with Dr. Hina Joshi. Hina Joshi is a certified health and wellness coach from the Institute of Functional medicine.Her path to becoming a health and wellness coach began many years ago when she began working with people suffering from chronic pain. Dr. Joshi observed that many individuals with chronic pain were identified and treated for their symptoms. No one comprehended the other aspects of their life influencing their pain levels. This was when she began investigating the fundamental cause of chronic pain, leading her to functional medicine. Her son's diagnosis of ADHD was another factor that drew her to functional medicine. Dr. Joshi has always understood that food is a sort of medicine, but she did not know how to use it to treat her son. She was confident that she needed to investigate. An American Book Award, two Arab American Book Awards, and a Maryland State Arts Council Independent Artists Award were among the accolades she received. She was designated a 2018 Ford Fellow by the United States Artists in 2018.Jaime Manrique, the judge for the AWP Grace Paley Prize for Short Fiction, selected Susan Muaddi Darraj's short story collection A Curious Land: Stories from Home as the winner. Aside from that, it was nominated for a Palestine Book Award and won the Arab American Book Award in 2016. The Inheritance of Exile, her previous collection of short stories, was released by the University of Notre Dame Press in 2007. The Farah Rocks chapter book series was the first to feature an Arab American protagonist, and she has authored other YA biographies.
