Federal appeals court nominee Lawrence J.C. VanDyke broke down in tears during a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing Wednesday, reacting to a scathing letter against his confirmation by the American Bar Association. VanDyke also broke down in tears over assertions he harbors animus toward LGBT people. The Bar Association conducted 60 interviews and concluded that VanDyke was "not qualified" for the judicial branch. In the letter, ABA Chair William C. Hubbard said, "Mr. VanDyke's accomplishments are offset by the assessments of interviewees that Mr. VanDyke is arrogant, lazy, an ideologue, and lacking in knowledge of the day-to-day practice including procedural rules.There was a theme that the nominee lacks humility, has an entitlement temperament, does not have an open mind, and does not always have a commitment to being candid and truthful. The Gospel Music Association has apologized to Kirk Franklin for censoring his speech during the broadcast of the 50th Annual Dove Awards earlier this month after Franklin released a lengthy video on Instagram threatening to boycott. Gospel Music Association president Jackie Patillo has issued an apology saying: "On the heels of the 50th Annual Dove Awards Celebration, I want to thank everyone who came and helped us fulfill our mission to spread the Gospel through music for all the world to see! Our mission to expose, promote and celebrate the Gospel through music includes representing our artists and giving them a platform to share their voice with a worldwide audience. Due to our broadcast window, we had to significantly edit the Dove telecast to 2 hours, which aired Sunday, October 20th. In light of this, we understand that many were disappointed because there were so many memorable moments and noteworthy portions of acceptance speeches absent. Specifically, we were made aware of troubling concerns regarding the edit of Kirk Franklin's acceptance speech. At the request of Kirk's team, we held our response regarding those concerns until we were able to speak with Kirk privately, apologize directly, and discuss resolutions to rectify this unfortunate issue. With that said, we would like to publicly acknowledge that we are deeply apologetic for the missteps that happened relating to the editing of Kirk Franklin's Dove Awards acceptance speech. We accept the responsibility of our error. Although completely unintentional, we understand it caused great harm and deeply wounded many in the African American and Gospel community. As well, it left a general perception that we are not concerned with key social issues that affect people of color. It is not our intent to disregard or silence any of our artists, and we are deeply saddened by this perception and are committed to change this. Members of the GMA board and executives spoke with Kirk and his team this past Friday to discuss solutions that we are currently working to implement moving forward. What the hell happened at the Second Step Presidential Justice Forum at Benedict College this weekend? Did Benedict College get played by the Trump administration and the organizers of Donald Trump's first visit to an HBCU? As Donald Trump delivered a speech about criminal justice to a room full of political allies at Benedict College, in Columbia, S.C., most students were reportedly asked to stay in their dorms. The room allegedly only included about 12 students of students. The nation's complainer-in-chief was awarded the the 20/20 Bipartisan Justice Center's “Bipartisan Justice Award” which sparked outrage, protests and Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Kamala Harris to back out of the event as a result. The Trump admin turned what was supposed to be a presidential forum into an official White House event which allowed them to literally hi-jack the event. Donald Trump is always describing investigations into his actions as witch-hunts and coups, but today he chose a much stronger word to describe the current impeachment inquiry. The nation's complainer-in-chief tweeted, "So some day, if a Democrat becomes President and the Republicans win the House, even by a tiny margin, they can impeach the President, without due process or fairness or any legal rights. All Republicans must remember what they are witnessing here - a lynching. But we will WIN!" Don't be fooled ... Trump is a master of distraction. While we were outraged by Trump's lynching comment, Bill Taylor, the acting US ambassador to Ukraine, said during his testimony to the House committees investigating impeachment that everything including the release of military aid to Ukraine, was tied to Ukraine President Zelensky publicly announcing investigations into Joe Biden and the 2016 election.
