Perlmutter: From 2013 to 2023 David D. Perlmutter was dean of the College of Media & Communication at Texas Tech University where he is now a full professor. He received his B.A. and M.A. from the University of Pennsylvania and his Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota. Perlmutter is the author or editor of ten books on political communication, new media technologies, and higher education published by, among others, Palgrave, Oxford, and Harvard University Press. He also published several dozen research articles for academic journals and hundreds of popular press and journalism essays and reports. Perlmutter has been interviewed by most major news networks and newspapers, from the New York Times to CNN and ABC, and was a featured guest on “The Daily Show” with Jon Stewart. He has studied war, politics, and violence as well as crime and police issues in the media for almost 35 years. His most “true crime” book was a study of stereotypes of police in the media that included him riding along with officers and joining the department as a reserve officer.David D. In this new episode Tim Pilleri and Lance Reenstierna speak with John Lordan about the mysterious disappearance of Cassandra Durham from Roscommon, Michigan in August of 1987.At the time of her disappearance Cassandra was 19 years old. During the summer of 1987, Cassandra Durham and her boyfriend left their home in Baltimore, Maryland, to travel for vacation. Cassandra told family that they were in Roscommon, Michigan, visiting her boyfriend’s grandparents. She did not indicate where they were going after visiting his grandparents. When her boyfriend returned to Maryland, Cassandra was not with him. Cassandra is described as a white female, age 19 at the time of her disappearance, with brown hair and blue eyes. She has two tattoos on her hip/thigh area (unknown which leg). The first tattoo is of her boyfriend’s initials and the second is the initials of her college sorority (initials unknown). Bill, along with Kristin Dilley, hosts the excellent podcast, Mind Over Murder. Bill is the brother of Cathleen Thomas who, along with her girlfriend Rebecca Ann Dowski, were the first victims of the serial killer that terrorized couples in the region of the Colonial Parkway in Virginia between 1986 and 1989. In January of 2024, a man named Alan Wade Wilmer Sr. was named as the prime suspect in connection to the murders of David Knobling and Robin Edwards, Teresa Lynn Howell and Cassandra Hailey and Richard Call.
