Ep 245: Is mormonism a cult? with Eric Pement
Most Mormons are committed, moral, and dedicated people. But are they Christians? They claim to be but is that true? Eric Pement, a former Reorganized Latter Day Saint, is on the show to talk to us about his experience growing up in the RLDS organization, and why he thought he was a better Christian than you. Eric came to Christianity after he realized he wanted a personal relationship with Jesus. His story and wisdom will help you understand Mormonism and how to talk to those who think they're Christians but deny the fundamentals of the faith. Ep. 244: Is a prayer closet biblical? How do you know when God is speaking to you?
The phrase "prayer closet" is uttered by many in the church and because it is we think it must be biblical. That's the power of repetition. But is going into your prayer closet and quieting your mind the avenue in which God speaks? Is that what Jesus meant when He said, "go into your closet and pray"? (Matt 6:6) Shanda answers the following questions to help us understand how to hear from God: What does the Bible say about a prayer closet? What does the Bible say about hearing God's voice. Is sitting in silence and listening for God's voice biblical? This is a listener requested episode and if you have a question you want Shanda to answer, send it to hello@shandafulbright.com. Ep 242 Christianity isn't supposed to be comfortable
Last month, a young Haitian missionary couple were killed in the field. A lot of people condemned them for being in a dangerous country where their lives were at risk, saying they had no business being there. The real question is: is Christianity comfortable? Are we supposed to pick and choose where to take the gospel as long as it's safe and we know it won't cost us anything? Shanda discusses the core of Christianity and why looking for comfortable Christiantiy is dangerous. We look at missionaries who gave their lives for the sake of Christ as well as what Paul said in his epistle to the churches about his own missionary journeys. This episode is both encouraging and convicting as we push past our comfort zone into the uncharted territory of uncomfortable Christianity. Ep 241 My conversation with the Faithiest Atheist with Richard Suttles
Why do people arrive at their beliefs? Richard Suttles, otherwise known as The Faithiest Atheist, is here to discuss the importance of having civil conversations with people who don't think and believe like you. His background in counter-terrorism has led him to see there are only two steps in taking beliefs to a dangerous level. We discuss what those are and why it's important to be passionate about what you believe, yet balance it with mutual respect. We also discuss his "ministry" and why some atheists might not want him in their club. Ep 239: Nature vs Nurture - Effective discipline and correction for kids and teens
There's a saying by parents that goes, "This is going to hurt me more than it hurts you." It's only until you become a parent yourself and are in the middle of disciplining your child that that statement rings true. In this episode, we talk about effective discipline of children and teens, and we get into how to deal with adult children living in your home. For those parents who don't like to discipline their kids becaues it hurts YOU too much - we talk about why that's selfish. Discipline is part of the long game in effectively training your child. Ep 237 Can moms have it all? with Angela Mitchell
Can moms balance a successful and demanding career and a busy home? The cultural message is that we can, but is that true? It's impossible to give your best effort simultaneously to more than one aspiration. Everything else is going to get second best. Angela Mitchell from Raising Apologists is on the show to talk about why you can't have it all in motherhood, but you can have what's most fulfilling. We discuss why role models matter for little girls, and the three most important things a mom needs to remember when it comes to being in the thick of motherhood. Ep 236: Modern family - technology, disfunction, and worldview formation
Whatever is at the center of your life shapes you. The atmosphere of the home helps a child understand what is most important. Where does the family gather to talk and are free to create? Are more words texted on a device than to each other? Shanda talks about the center of the home before technology and why parents are losing ground when it comes to influencing their children to follow God. No family is perfect, and since we're all humans and descendents of Adam and Eve, every family is disfunctional in some way. However, that doesn't mean there isn't a design for the home that will shape and develope a biblical worldview in your family.
