#101: Is Healthcare A Human Right?

Two BIG things we are talking about today. First- our 100th Episode Giveaway announcement is today! We have a winner, woohoo! Listen up to see if it was you! Our incredible prize package is listed below as well as thanks to all the sponsors and donors!  The Show: Oregon just passed Ballot Measure 111. It says  that the state "ensure that every resident of Oregon has access to cost-effective, clinically appropriate and affordable health care as a fundamental right." What defines a resident of Oregon? What defines what is  cost-effective treatment? Who decides what is clinically appropriate? What happens if a person in healthcare declines to provide health services to an Oregon Resident, are they infringing on someone’s state rights?  So many questions as far as interpretation, costs, and implications for those PROVIDING healthcare and those RECEIVING.  Our guest today, Alan Thayer of Innovative Law Group (ThinkILG.com), is here to help untangle all those questions. He also gives us some important background on the history of Oregon ballot measures and implications how this will play out.  Where to find Alan Thayer: www.thinkILG.com Oregon Ballot Measure 111: https://ballotpedia.org/Oregon_Measure_111,_Right_to_Healthcare_Amendment_(2022) Our Advice! #99: Thanksgiving Gratitude

Happy Thanksgiving! Are you “Thankful” today?  We sure hope so!  We are giving you some extra food for thought today as we discuss gratitude. Tim and I compare thankfulness to gratitude, the health benefit of gratitude and the bigger psychological benefit of being grateful. We are going to give you tips on how to change your attitude to gratitude even though you may relish in the occasional road rage rampage ( like Tim admits to secretly to). We’ve got updates on our 100th episode giveaway coming out this week and the results of the IRON pronunciation contest…..it was a landslide. There’s not much corn in today's episode, just a giant helping of sweet food for thought! And yes, we are both THANKFUL and GRATEFUL for all of our listeners and fans out there.  Sponsor: Check out  New Leaf Hyperbarics in Eugene, OR and experience the benefits of hyperbaric therapy! #98: The “Let’s Go Brandon” Guy

How can one sentence and one minute of your life completely upend the trajectory of your “normal” under the radar life? Speaking out, regardless of whether or not you believe in free speech, can have instant life altering consequences. Meet the now infamous gentleman who wished President Joe Biden, “Merry Christmas and let’s go Brandon” on Christmas Eve 2021. Jared Schmeck thought he was calling the NORAD Santa tracking line with his kids to get an update on Santa’s whereabouts. He was surprised to find out he was on live TV with a direct line to the President and First Lady.  And then…the rest is as they say is history. We discuss what it means to stand up for what you believe in, not becoming intimidated by those who oppose you, and what faith means and looks like in our daily actions.   Since last week was election week , this episode is kind of fitting but oh yeah…. turn the corner and we’re still counting! What comes around every 5 years like clockwork? No not El Nina or the Lunar Eclipse, but Tim’s colonoscopy screening. He’s on the five year plan for reasons we discuss.  But how ironic that his procedure was on the same day as the National Voting day!  He’s going to give you the scoop on his prep, experience in the endoscopy day unit and he even brought pics! We discuss the importance of colon cancer screening, risk factors and different types of screening tests available. We source information from United States Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) If you are over 45, we encourage you to make sure you get screened! As the old saying goes, if you want to be successful, then you should listen to successful people. We are doing that with Dr. Mark Sherwood! He has a resume of amazing achievements including being a professional baseball player,  previous bodybuilding champion, then law enforcement officer turned Naturopathic Physician.   Dr. Sherwood and his wife have established a thriving Functional Medical clinic in Tulsa,  written numerous books, produced inspirational movies and he has  recently thrown his  hand in for the race for Oklahoma Governor.  We discuss the importance of health being a personal responsibility , current Medical issues such as the Fentanyl crisis, the intermingling of politics and Medicine and finally how  patients need to become motivated and empowered to be their best health advocate.  About our guest:   BIO: Dr. Mark Sherwood was born in Tulsa and raised in nearby Berryhill.  His time was spent in law enforcement and at the Functional Medical Institute helping thousands of patients. He and his wife, Michele L. Neil-Sherwood together form a partnership of principled leadership. Together they have successfully treated 10,000 covid patients, resulting in zero deaths.
