The Supreme Court has blocked President Trump’s use of an emergency law to impose sweeping tariffs on most U.S. trading partners. In a 6-3 decision, the court argued that Trump’s use of IEEPA to control tariffs would expand executive power at the expense of the other branches of government. New York City’s Democratic socialist mayor Zohran Mamdani is threatening a 9.5% property tax increase and 5k officer reduction in the New York City Police Department’s ranks if state lawmakers do not raise taxes on wealthy residents and corporations.
