EP268 with Jim Haag: The DUTY of a Father

This conversation with my friend, Jim Haag, is full of wisdom from a disciplined man and father who's truly embraced his role as dad and shifted his lifestyle to lead his family in the most positive direction.  He shares how nutrition, fitness, and how taking control of his physical health helped put focus on how he wanted to show up as a dad. He shares what he's learned about his body chemistry and how this knowledge has played into the habits he's put in place to stay healthy and vibrant.  In this same vein, he shares the realization of how important it is to be the seeker in what you want out of life - not simply letting life drag you along.   We discuss the importance of intentional stability and how growing up with a dad who wasn't a strong source of stability shaped him and how he views fatherhood.Jim talks about fatherhood as a duty - not a right. He reminds us of the responsibility we carry as a father and how rigorous self-evaluation helps us show up as the best version of ourselves for our family and help break down barriers in our homes.  ----------Want to learn more about The Adventure of Fatherhood?https://www.adventureoffatherhood.com/https://www.rebelandcreate.com/Each week Ned sits down with a dad and asks him to open up his field notes and share with other men who find themselves on the Adventure of Fatherhood.Follow us:Instagram: www.instagram.com/rebelandcreateYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/rebelandcreate/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/rebelandcreate

EP267: FRIDAY THOUGHTS | Craft of Fatherhood

This week I share a few questions at the forefront of my mind this week: How do I make my family feel?  Will this action (x,y,z) help me hit my goal?  What can I do to shift my energy before bringing bad energy home?  What matters most?  I share the major takeaway from pondering these questions this week and how failing at some of these things has shifted my perspective.  Book discussed in this episode: https://gapandgainbook.com/----------Want to learn more about The Adventure of Fatherhood?https://www.adventureoffatherhood.com/https://www.rebelandcreate.com/Each week Ned sits down with a dad and asks him to open up his field notes and share with other men who find themselves on the Adventure of Fatherhood.Follow us:Instagram: www.instagram.com/rebelandcreateYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/rebelandcreate/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/rebelandcreate

EP266 with Jon Vroman: Invitation to Front Row Dads Live

This week's conversation with Jon Vroman is focused on the growth-centered brotherhood he's created at Front Row Dads. This online community, with members from 14 countries, was established as a place for men to connect - family men with businesses - not businessmen with families. A few years ago, someone asked, “What do you do Jon?” He replied, “I’m a speaker, author, and founder of Front Row Foundation.”"Then I paused… Wait… let me try that again… “I’m a father and husband, and when I’m not doing that, I…” Parenting wasn’t something I did when I was off work. It was my primary work."Jon and Ned dive into his upcoming, Front Row Dads Live event. This event is for men who want to be amazing dads, incredible husbands, and great businessmen and excel in all aspects of their lives. It was created out of a need for in-person connection that stemmed from the success of his online community. His drive to help dads, young men & women succeed is what inspired this project. He shares a story about how this impacted how he learned to swim as a child.  He shares the importance of how taking action as the leader in your marriage allows for adventure within your relationship with your wife.We discuss the expectations of boys and girls to follow rules and how the necessity for kids to show up and do the assignment doesn't allow space for them to check in with themselves as a leader. This episode with Mike Ayala is so impactful. He is truly a man that enjoys being a father. An extrovert, he loves being with people and has prioritized spending time with those he loves. When the world is constantly telling us "me time" is important, he's cultivated a true joy for spending time with others. And his children are no exception. His scope includes operations, management teams, development, and chief people officer. He also co-directs the overall investment strategy along with Andrew Lanoie. Mike has over 22 years of experience in finding freedom by building teams and streamlining operations.Above all, he knows his role as "dad" is the most important. He reminds us that our role is not to be everything for our children - it is impossible.  Instead, our role is to affirm their identity.  To be a support to our children. To help them find their greatness. To help them find their passions. To be a safe place for them. To give them guidance when needed. We discuss being an empty nester and how fatherhood is a long game. And how cultivating stability within his home (and family) is the key to connection. His adult children need him now more than ever.  He shares what he hopes his legacy will look like decades from now and how it goes beyond just his kids. He and his wife realized the opportunity they had to impact their kids' friends too. EP261: How to BE PRESENT | Craft of Fatherhood

In this week's episode, I talk about discipline. No matter where you fall - extremely disciplined OR maybe just coasting along striving for more - I realize how discipline can affect us being present in the moment.  For example, you may be driving your kid to practice but are not fully engaged because you're thinking of the meeting you have in the afternoon. I recognize this in myself and am sharing a practice I'm putting in place lately to help me be more mindful of being present throughout my day.

EP260 with Yves Bright: Presence, Stress, and Surfing

This week's conversation with Yves Bright, actor, pro surfer, and photographer, is full of wisdom from a dad who confidently knows the focus that he's placed on being a father now will have an impact for generations to come.  We discuss the idea of trying to control our kids. He shares the realization of how it's more important to relinquish that control in the name of growth and raising independent young adults. He reminds us how vital it is to foster an environment where our children can think for themselves. He talks about how Surfline helped him as a new dad and a reminder to not lose our identity and passions as fathers. Our children are our priority but it is important to remember that we have our own identity as a father too. Yves shares how he's rebelling against the stress of our world and is striving to create an environment without fear and stress. He's creating freedom for his children by encouraging them to think for themselves as we can all so easily lose our individuality by falling into the need to belong. When talking about raising teens, he shares his realization that they are going to learn one way or another - from us parents or from their friends, social media, etc. Don't relinquish the opportunity to teach your kids about the important stuff to outside sources. Take that great responsibility to educate them ourselves.  This is a great listen for all dads, especially those raising teens in the chaos of today's world. Your presence matters and he shares what he's put in practice to ensure he's present for his children.   Where to find Yves:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/yvesbright/?hl=enHis photography on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/photos_x_yves/?hl=enCheck out his photography online here: https://www.photosxyves.com/----------Want to learn more about The Adventure of Fatherhood?https://www.adventureoffatherhood.com/https://www.rebelandcreate.com/Each week Ned sits down with a dad and asks him to open up his field notes and share with other men who find themselves on the Adventure of Fatherhood.Follow us:Instagram: www.instagram.com/rebelandcreateYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/rebelandcreate/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/rebelandcreate
