Jess Griffiths | Everything you need to know about Binge Eating Disorder.

Trigger warning: this episode contains references to suicide.Jess Griffiths is the Clinical Lead for @beatedsupport and she joins me in this episode of the podcast to discuss eating disorders, in particular, binge-eating disorder. If you’re a regular listener or have followed me for a while, you’ll know this is something I struggle with so I wanted to bring Jess onto the show to shed light on a type of eating disorder that affects more people than you might imagine, yet is a type of eating disorder that is not as widely-known as anorexia and bulimia. In this episode, @jessthegryffindor shares her expertise and insights on:What exactly binge-eating disorder and what it might look like and feel. How preoccupation with food, weight and shape can be an indicator of a bigger issue. Why eating disorders tend to disproportionately affect a people-pleasing personality type. Why it’s estimated that at least 30% of people who present as morbidly obsessed have binge-eating disorder. How Cognitive Behavioural Therapy has an excellent success rate when offered as treatment, but why there is a severe lack of resources which means diet and exercise are often given as a ‘fix’.The body positivity and body acceptance movements and whether, in some instances, they have the potential to endorse behaviours associated with a mental health issue. The link between eating disorders and depression, and much more…It is never my intention to create content that will upset, offend or alienate and I am very much aware of how much I am still learning on this journey and about this subject, but I felt this was an important conversation to haveIf you’re worried about your own or someone else’s health, you can contact Beat, the UK’s eating disorder charity, 365 days a year on 0808 801 0677 or beateatingdisorders.org.uk  To join the closed Facebook group for the podcast click here >> The Emma Guns Show Forum. To follow me on social media >> Twitter | Instagram.Hey! Bullet Points | At-home Fitness

In this week’s Bullet Points, the focus is on home workouts. With gyms closed, a lot of us have had to figure out how to maintain our fitness or get something resembling a decent workout at home. Sales of home gym equipment surged by over 5000% last year, so clearly a lot of us have had to find a way.Whether you’ll be first in line when gyms reopen or have become a convert to the at-home workout, in this episode I share the kit I think is non-negotiable whether you want an intense sweat session or a well-earned stretch. My at-home gym consists of:A yoga mat.Two sets of resistance bands - lower body and upper body. Two dumbbells and a kettlebell.A Bosu ball.I also have some sliders gathering dust in a drawer and was very close buying a weight vest last summer, but thankfully good sense took over.I am not a qualified trainer and have no professional fitness experience. If you’re looking for inspiration then I highly recommend @aliceliveing @jillianmichaels @zannavandijk @popsugarfitness on @youtubeTo join the closed Facebook group for the podcast click here >> The Emma Guns Show Forum. To follow me on social media >> Twitter | Instagram.Hey! Wim Hof | Breathe, motherf*cker!

Wim Hof is a Dutch extreme athlete, adventurer and world record holder who created The Wim Hof Method to help people unlock a host of physical and mental health benefits. While Wim is an extreme athlete who has climbed into the Death Zone of Mount Everest and completed a full marathon above the polar circle in just a pair of shorts, his method is accessible to anyone. It’s based on three pillars: cold therapy, breathing and commitment and with consistent practice Wim has shown its ability to increase energy, improve sleep, reduce stress, heighten focus and determination, increase willpower and strengthen the immune system. And for anyone who, as I often as my guests on the podcast, wants to see the data, he welcomes scientists to scrutinise and validate his claims. In this episode @iceman_hof and I discuss:The power and fortitude that exists within us all and how to access it.How the benefits he felt from cold exposure and breath work is now being validated in labs under clinical supervision. He isn’t a ‘freak of nature’ anyone can do what he does. Why a ‘cold shower a day keeps the doctor away’.How forcing yourself to experience discomfort, such as cold, only amplifies the pleasure you feel from the warmth. Why it’s vital not to limit yourself; sometimes pushing your limits is where you find out who you are.Why failure is a vital part of life and how to handle it and learn from it when it happens, and so much more…Please use caution and seek advice, where appropriate, when attempting any exercises, especially in water.Further reading on Wim and The Wim Hof Method:Find out more about The Wim Hof Method.Wim's book The Wim Hof Method: Activate Your Potential, Transcend Your Limits. The scientific research behind The Wim Hof Method. The breathing exercise I mention and use frequently Guided Wim Hof Breathing. To join the closed Facebook group for the podcast click here >> The Emma Guns Show Forum. To follow me on social media >> Twitter |Hey! Bullet Points | Book Club

It’s time for another #bookclub episode of the podcast, not least because you’ve been sharing with me, via DM and email, the books you’ve been enjoying lately. I’ve also had my nose, and ears, in some great reads and I’m sharing my five favourites with you.I selected books I’ve found informative, inspiring, entertaining and downright eye-opening and I’d love to hear your thoughts. In today’s #bookclub episode:Never Split the Difference by Chris Voss (@thefbinegotiator) and Tahl Raz. Keep hitting the same dead-ends in your lines of communication? This book could help and Chris’ insights in his time as a hostage negotiator are incredibly helpful.TMI: My Life in Scandal by Perez Hilton (@theperezhilton). Perez came on the podcast at the end of last year and it was in preparing for that conversation that I read this book. It’s a fascinating insight into what was going on as Perez, and his hugely popular website, charted a unique period in celebrity history. Open Book: A Memoir by Jessica Simpson (@jessicasimpson). I used to love a TV show on MTV called Diary. The tagline was ‘you think you know, but you have no idea’. This is my way of saying that I thought I had the measure of Jessica Simpson, but it turns out I didn’t have a clue. I listened to this on @audible and it’s a triumph, not least because of the way in which Jessica tells her story.Untamed: Stop Pleasing, Start Living by Glennon Doyle (@glennondoyle) Yep, @adele influenced me into buying this. One social media post and within seconds it’s on my @amazonkindle. Adele said ‘this books will shake your  brain and make your soul scream’, but what do you think? How to Heal a Broken Heart by Rosie Green (@lifesrosie). Rosie charts her journey through heartbreak and the disintegration of everything she thought was certain and it’s raw, honest and not at all sugar-coated. In this book Rosie re-enters that pain in order to offer anyone else experiencing it a path out of it. Her honesty, candour and resilience shine through and it’s a must-read guide for anyone struggling with heartache, loss or rejection. To find the full, unedited conversation simply click the link in my bio or type ‘The Emma Guns Show’ into your preferred podcast platform. As ever, I’d love to know what you think whether that’s in the comments below, on DM or via email. I make this podcast for YOU and if there’s anything you’d like to hear on this subject, or any other, please feel free to let me know.Hey!
