Memorial Round 3 Recap: Jon Rahm on verge of world no. 1 (7/18)

Muirfield Village has claimed many victims over its nearly 50 year history, Jon Rahm was not one of them today. The Spaniard’s spectacular back nine catapulted him into a 4 shot lead heading into Sunday. What was clicking for Rahmbo and how can claim the title of no. 1 in the world for the first time in his career (2:00)? Tony Finau’s lead was derailed after shooting 2-over on the back nine. He now sits four shots off the lead with 18 holes left to play. Does Tony have any shot of winning tomorrow (12:25)? Ryan Palmer and Jon Rahm teamed up together last year to win the Zurich Classic. After a 1-over performance today he sits T2 behind his former teammate. Can Palmer close out and defeat Rahm (17:20)? Tiger Woods looked much better today than he did yesterday. His 1-under round wasn’t too shabby compared to the high numbers that lurked around every corner on moving day (23:50). We wrap with our picks heading into Sunday, is Jon Rahm a lock to win or can we find value in Finau or Palmer (35:41)?—————————Want to win $1,000 without putting any of your own cash at stake? Memorial Round 2 Recap: Tiger’s cut sweat, Bryson cards a 10 (7/17)

Today’s second round felt like a marathon, between Big Cat on the cut line and Bryson blowing up we had enough pod content for a whole week! Let’s get you caught up on all the happenings at the Memorial. Tony Finau and Ryan Palmer are your 36-hole co-leaders at the Memorial. Are we buying Tony’s staying power, can he finally breakthrough and get over that Puerto Rico Open Curse (0:30)? We also dive into Rick’s extremely bold take that “Ryan Palmer is low-key good(5:05).” Rounding out the podium positions is Jon Rahm, is Rahmbo poised to make a big move this weekend sitting only a single shot off the lead (9:30)? Tiger Woods will play this weekend at Muirfield Village, but that made cut didn’t come without a sweat. Are we pressing the panic button on Big Cat heading into Saturday (14:40)? Bryson DeChambeau made headlines again on Friday, but this time it wasn’t for a gargantuan drive. We breakdown his historic 10 on the par-5 15th hole at Muirfield Village (23:15). Finally we wrap with our plays heading into the weekend. Is there any value on players further down the leaderboard (29:15)?—————————'First Cut' is available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, Castbox and wherever else you listen to podcasts. Follow our hosts on Twitter: @KylePorterCBS, @mark_immelman, @RickRunGood, @therealGFDCheck us out on YouTube for video podcasts and exclusive content, visit https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCyeer4UbTK9pzZL9_hhCimA/For more golf coverage from CBS Sports, visit https://www.cbssports.com/golf/To hear more from the CBS Sports Podcast Network, visit https://www.cbssports.com/podcasts/ To learn more about listener data and our privacy practices visit: https://www.audacyinc.com/privacy-policy Learn more about your ad choices. Memorial Round 1 Recap: Finau leads, breaking down Tiger’s return (7/16)

This ain’t the Workday Charity Open. PGA Tour pros battled a hellacious Muirfield Village in blustery conditions today. The course proved to be a true challenge, with average scores being over a stroke higher than they were at last week’s Workday Charity Open (1:36). Tony Finau holds the lead after an astonishing first round 66. The flat-stick was hot for Tony today as he gained nearly 4.5 strokes putting. Is this type of performance sustainable through the weekend (3:55)? Tiger Woods was the center of the golf universe today. How are our analysts grading his first round performance at the Memorial (10:50)? We wrap with some players to keep an eye on heading into the weekend, is anyone further down the leaderboard worth a wager to win (9:57)?—————————'First Cut' is available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, Castbox and wherever else you listen to podcasts. Memorial Preview - Tiger returns, Bryson-Brooks Beef & Expert Picks (7/14)

Tiger freaking Woods is back and we’re previewing his return to golf at this week’s Memorial tournament. Dog Bell joins Rick Gehman, Kyle Porter, Mark Immelman and Greg DuCharme on today’s episode of The First Cut Podcast. We start out with general fawning over just how stacked this field is. This week’s tournament will look a lot like a major with both the field and the venue (1:30). Of course the headline of the week is the one and only Tiger Woods. Big Cat is making his first PGA Tour start since the Genesis Invitational where he looked stiff and finished last among those who made the cut. What does Tiger need to do in order to win this week (16:00)? Rory McIlroy will play with Cat on Thursday and Friday. The current world no. 1 hasn’t looked like his pre-hiatus self since golf returned to action. Is this the week that McIlroy turn his prospects around (22:00)? Did the PGA Tour miss an opportunity by not pairing Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka together in Thursday/Friday featured group coverage? The beefy duo has been exchanging shots since last year’s TOUR Championship. Who do we have more confidence in at Muirfield Village (24:04)? Patrick Cantlay’s value is stellar this week as a 16/1 defending champion. His recent form is looking sharp, is it worth laying a wager on the world’s 10th ranked player (31:05)? After the break we take a look at the betting board. Stay tuned as we run through our favorite matchup selections (44:23), expert picks (58:44) and best bets (1:07:13).—————————Want to win $3,000 without putting any of your own cash at stake? Workday Round 1 Recap: Morikawa leads, Tiger commits to Memorial (7/9)

Friend of the pod Collin Morikawa is your leader after 18 holes of the Workday Charity Open. We’ve got Greg DuCharme and Mark Immelman on the podcast to breakdown what clicked today for the young phenom (0:51). Someone that spent time social distancing behind the pack was Brooks Koepka. The four-time major champion did major damage control by posting a Toal score of 74 after shooting 41 on his first nine. Does Brooks have any hope to make the cut (6:40)? Phil Mickelson stole the afternoon spotlight. Lefty was seemingly on his was to be well clear of the cut after posting a 32 on the front. That was all erased when he came into the clubhouse with a 41 on his second nine. What does Phil need to do in order to make the weekend (10:03)? After the ad break we chat about Big Cat’s announcement today that he will be playing in the Memorial next week. What kind of rust, if any, can we expect to see from Tiger Woods (17:15)?
