Finding Hope with Keith Haughton

I'll be honest with you. I hate reading Christian memoirs. They're too saccharine, too fake, and everything ends up with Jesus fixing everything in the end. I hate them because life rarely shakes out that way and these types of books read more like fiction. From my experience, life is hard and doesn't always make sense. Everything doesn't always have meaning or a teachable moment. And actually, Jesus tends to make life more messy and complicated, not simple or easy. When I was approached to read, Rambles and Rants by Keith Haughton, I initially balked. I wasn't in the mood for a Christian fantasy yarn devoid of reality.  I'm glad I was wrong.  Rambles and Honest is not a typical memoir. It's raw, messy and honest. It doesn't offer easy answers to tragedy and loss. I actually felt comforted by its rough edges and candor. Keith's memoir is an inspirational journey of hope and healing in the midst of fear, confusion, and suffering. Keith's story, like most of ours, is still evolving and hopeful.  Join me today as I sit down with Keith and talk about the journey of his life.  You can find Keith Haughton's book here. It's an excellent read that will stick with you.  Come along for the ride as we skewer through life, culture, and spirituality in the face of a changing world. The Broken Priesthood

Hearing that the American Church is broken isn't a new thing for this show. We've talked about it endlessly over the years. Though I'm becoming more convinced that there's no fix for the problem. Jesus isn't the problem. He never was. We've built up the church as an idol. We've learned to worship pastors. We've forgotten what it means to be servants. We've lost the heart of Christ in the process of becoming successful and powerful. Some things that are broken can never be mended. There is a broken priesthood and a fractured system that's in decline and it's not going to change. The church in America is dead, we just don't want to admit it yet. Yes, this may sound hopeless, but that's not the case at all. In fact, it's actually exciting and we very well may be in the place where God intended. From death comes hope in new beginnings. We are not called to mourn the death of selfish, archaic systems that turned the church into a business and God's people into consumers. The broken priesthood has been a problem for centuries, but there is hope in what lies ahead down the road.   Let's delve into the glory and hope of the death of the American Church. Like the Titanic, the church has become a monument to arrogance and hubris. Like the Titanic, the church is sinking. So what does it look like with the decline of the church in America and why we should have hope. Tune in and let's find out.  Come along for the ride as we skewer through life, culture, and spirituality in the face of a changing world. www.SnarkyFaith.com Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Christian Persecution Complex

"Christian persecution complex is a belief, attitude or world view that Christian values and Christians are being oppressed by social groups and governments. This belief is thought to be held by certain American Protestant Churches, some Christian- or Bible-based cults and in Europe as well. It is has been called the 'Evangelical', 'American Christian' or 'Christian Right' 'Persecution Complex.'" - Wikipedia ☝️Yeah, what they said. Join us as we dive into the most thin-skinned and obnoxious whiners of the faith. Christians in America aren't being persecuted, they're just upset because they can't get their way. The Christian persecution complex is well bred into the DNA of American Christianity and keeps the faithful from actually experience their faith. It's a lie. It's fake. It's a spiritual cop-out and an insult to those in other areas of the world actually being persecuted. If people don't respond well to you being a hateful, bigoted, and judgmental, it's not persecution, you're just an asshole. Baptists & Robot Sex

Leave it to the Baptists to invent new things for us to fear, condemn, and judge. With technology rapidly changing, we all need to fear the take over of sex robots. It's kind of like the Terminator with a little more lube. Recently the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention compiled an extensive statement on the evangelical stance on artificial intelligence that no one was asking for. And yes, these are the same asshats that signed the anti-LGBTQ Nashville Statement... so you know it's bound full of grace and compassion. Sadly, even sex robots aren't welcome in church anymore. 😢 Fear not! Snark and mockery still reign supreme on this show. So, buckle up and pack your rubbers because we'll have a fun ride breaking down Southern Baptist's stances on AI in a way that even sex robots will rejoice. 🤖🎉🍆🍑🌮💦 Come along for the ride as we skewer through life, culture, and spirituality in the face of a changing world. www.SnarkyFaith.com Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Palm Sunday

Palm Sunday is the oft-overlooked appetizer that leads us to Easter. We know how the story ends, so we rush through it as if it's a preamble. Once we look deeper a the events that surround Jesus's entry into Jerusalem before his death, it starts to make the entire narrative take a different shape. These events are way more political and way less spiritual than it seems. So, I think it's far time we rethink Palm Sunday. The Trump Dump

We're living in a post-Muller report world and it's a stark reminder that we put too much faith in saviors. Your political persuasion doesn't matter. Whether we had the hope that Muller would save us from the ongoing Trump dump or if we thought that Trump was the orange messiah to save us from the brink, we were fooling ourselves. When we put hope in false messiahs, we're abdicating our own role in change. We're ignoring our own abilities, talents, perspectives, and greatness. We always seem to be in a search for people that offer us the solutions that lead us towards change. They could be politicians, celebrities, pastors, authors or influencers but they're all the same. They're only a distraction and a false hope. When will we wake up and realize this? If we want real and lasting change, the hard work in making the world a better place is in our hands. To change our communities,  we don't need messiahs or saviors. We need ordinary people working together for a common cause. The saviors are dangerous when we expect them to fix everything. Don't underestimate yourself. Change comes from all of us doing our part to make a difference. Change starts with you. The Gospel of Grifters

Since when did it be okay that the gospel of grace has been replaced by the gospel of grifters. The sacred message of Jesus' love for mankind has been hijacked by charlatans, con artists, televangelists, and conspiracy prophets. Instead of being driven by love and compassion, the faith is now fueled by greed and lust for power. Join us as we talk about the rift between the mission of God and the gospel of grifters that currently run the ship. Christchurch

On Friday, March 15th, 50 people were killed and dozens were injured after a gunman opened fire on two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand. The attack was the worst mass shooting in New Zealand's history. What do we do when the world is in chaos and things cease to make sense? Violence begets violence and the cycle continues on. So what are we to do? We mourn. We meditate. We contemplate. Then, we take the outrage, pain, and anger and fuel it into change because things must change.
