Brian and Steven discuss Social Justice Warriors for a bit before diving into a ruling by the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals that refused to set precedent for removing immunity from a police officer. Today on Felony Friday Raeford Davis joins host John Odermatt to discuss the current state of policing in the US and the debilitating impact of the War on Drugs. Raeford served the City of North Charleston police department for six years, including four years as a patrol officer and two as a special victims unit detective. During the time that Raeford was an officer in North Charleston, the city was ranked the 8th most dangerous city in America. Prior to becoming a police officer, Raeford served in the United States Coast Guard. Raeford has a BS in Criminal Justice from Charleston Southern University. Since leaving law enforcement Raeford has become an outspoken advocate for police reform and for the ideas of liberty. Today on Felony Friday we welcome Beth Curtis on the show. Beth is the founder of Life for Pot. Life for Pot is an organization that spotlights offenders who have received life sentences without Parole for marijuana offenses. Beth started the organization after her younger brother, John Knock, was found guilty of three conspiracy charges and given a sentence of two life terms, for a first time non-violent marijuana offense. John’s experience in the criminal justice system motivated Beth to start this organization, which shares his story and shines a lot on the many individuals who are serving life sentences for marijuana.
