“The Giver” Movie Talk: Undoing Repression - Going Deeper Retreat Day 3, David Hoffmeister A Course in Miracles
When you accept your calling, the Holy Spirit will give you new tasks to expand and train your mind in a loving direction. The futuristic world portrayed in this movie "The Giver" is based on repression of memory and emotion, and hence it is tightly controlled by rules and protectionism. When the main character, Jonas, becomes 18 he is given an expanded role with access, through his mentor, to memories and emotions that the rest of the population do not have, with the idea that he will be able to offer them wise guidance in the future. Joining with his mentor, Jonas faces unconscious darkness and experiences powerful emotions. He soon realizes that although this world has eliminated chaos, it has also eliminated love and freedom. His loyalty dramatically shifts from obeying the rules to setting everyone's mind free and awakening. He emphasizes how spirituality must be practical, and is always about true forgiveness and joining. "Passengers" Movie Talk - David Hoffmeister A Course in Miracles
"Passengers" is one of these rare deep metaphysical movies! It's beautiful because it allows for the development of the relationship. In some ways it parallels with the movie "Solaris" as it is a space movie and it's a movie where you see the relationship and all the thoughts right up front because there is not much else going on. And that's the best way to view it is to have no distractions to be able to see it straight on. Over all "Passengers" is a love story but the kind of love story that takes it all the way beyond time and space to something higher. Perhaps most people won't consider it a love story because of all the unconscious darkness that has to come up but it is more realistic in terms of Awakening because all the darkness has to clear out of the mind. So in that sense this movie is very helpful and practical. What's Underneath Emotions
All the emotions are being generated by clinging to a false self, by trying to protect a false identity. The way out is to pay close attention and notice when the contraction would come up. This way you can start seeing things in a helpful perspective. And you will see that every emotion relates to an identity attachment. This is a journey of emptying the mind for it requires questioning every value that you hold. Not one can be kept hidden or it will obscure your learning.
