The ONLY DIET HACK You Need to Meet Your Health Goals - Without Restriction (A Beginners Guide to my Revolutionary Hunger Crushing Combo™ Framework)

It’s officially diet culture season, and if you’ve been trying to make peace with food and your body while still making peace with food, this episode is for you. This helps to increase satiety ,improve blood sugar levels, increase overall nutrition and stop moralizing food. “You’re Glorifying Obesity” and Other Fatphobic Lies about Body Positivity with Lauren Hope Krass of the Good Bodies Podcast

Happy new year, friends! In today’s episode of Bite Back with Abbey Sharp, I will be talking to Lauren Hope Krass. Lauren is a comedian, a contributor to Betches media, and the co-host of the Good Bodies podcast - formerly called Diet Starts Tomorrow. She’s also a body positivity advocate and a fat activist and I’m so excited to have her on our show! Today we will be unpacking common misunderstandings and criticisms of the body positivity movement (ie. that it “glorifies obesity”) and how it differs from movements like fat activism and fat acceptance. Lauren also discusses how fat activism and body positivity is important for everyone, including straight size (smaller bodied) folks. We’re going to chat about how weight loss drugs like ozempic are affecting the fat acceptance community. Lauren also shares some tips about how straight sized folks can act as allies to their larger bodied friends. I finish off by discussing how fat phobia affects people in larger bodies, and how this differs from thin privilege.. No matter what your body looks like, where you are in your body acceptance journey, this is an essential listen any time of year, but especially as we’re currently in some toxic new years resolution waters.References:https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6565398/#:~:text=More%20than%20three%20in%20five,are%20well%20documented%2C%20Alberga%20said.https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1038/oby.2003.142https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4381543/https://www.frontiersin.org/journals/psychology/articles/10.3389/fpsyg.2016.02063/fullhttps://bmcpublichealth.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.1186/1471-2458-12-525https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/1059601108321518https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/21820369/ Check in with today’s amazing guest: Lauren Hope Krass. “Ladies Eat Salad, Men Eat Steak and Burgers” - Exploring Gendered Eating Tropes in Media & Marketing with Dr. Emily Contois

In today’s episode of Bite Back with Abbey Sharp, I will be talking to Dr Emily Contois,  an Associate Professor at the University of Tulsa specializing in how identities are formed at the vital intersection of food, the body, and ideas about health. She is the author of “Diners, Dudes, and Diets: How Gender and Power Collide in Food Media and Culture” and co-editor of “Food Instagram: Identity, Influence, and Negotiation”. Today we will be diving into the intersection of gender norms and food choices. We will discuss how women are socialized to choose light dainty foods like salad whereas men are encouraged to eat hearty meals like steak and potatoes. We will be discussing the sneaky ways that diet culture and the food industry plays to these norms (ie. how foods are marketed to women vs men). We’re gonna talk about the “cool girl” story arc in TV and film (think Sex and the City and Gilmore Girls) and how that can be really damaging to young women’s relationship with food and their body. And I’m going to leave you with some actionable tips on how to reject these gendered food expectations which may specifically come in handy during the holidays when food judgement is at an all time high.References:https://www.mdpi.com/2072-6643/14/11/2240https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s11199-011-0022-5https://19thnews.org/2022/09/poll-healthcare-lgbtq-medical-discrimination/https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.1080/15534510.2015.1008037https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0001879107000437 Check in with today’s amazing guest: Dr Emily Contois, Associate Professor at the University of Tulsa. Follow at @emilycontois Website: https://emilycontois.com/Diners Dudes and Diets: https://www.amazon.com/Diners-Dudes-Diets-Collide-Culture/dp/1469660741Food Instagram: https://www.amazon.ca/Food-Instagram-Identity-Influence-Negotiation-ebook/dp/B09YDNDK87 Disclaimer: The content in this episode is for educational and entertainment purposes only and is never a substitute for medical advice. A Cautionary Tale on Grifty Wellness MLMs and Made Up Diagnoses (Leaky Gut & Adrenal Fatigue?) with Anti-Diet Dietitian Christy Harrison

In today’s episode of Bite Back with Abbey Sharp, and today we’re talking with anti diet dietitian and fellow podcaster and author, Christy Harrison about wellness culture grifters. We’re going to be talking a lot about how wellness culture is co-opting intuitive eating, along with the rise in different dubious diagnoses and spurious cures including leaky gut, chronic candida and adrenal fatigue. We’ll be diving into how pseudoscience wellness programs focus their efforts on cancer patients and other vulnerable people. We’re talking about wellness MLMs and why the vast majority of supplements out there are poorly manufactured and kinda BS - and why the business model may actually be making you less healthy.  And finally, I’ll be leaving you with some harrowing last thoughts about the real causes of health inequalities (aka.
