#161 How to get out of your own way
161 How to get out of your own way We all turn to trusted colleagues or friends for advice, but sometimes we want real advice, not just to be told how brilliant we are. When you find those colleagues it's their advice that will push you to being a better leader and help you go in the right direction. Today I'm talking about how you don't have to do everything by yourself, asking for and getting help can make you a stronger leader. Asking for advice can steer you in the right direction of people or of tools and resources. I also share how it's important to understand what your organisation, business or team requires of you now. The leader you needed to be five years ago will be different to the leader you need to be right here and now. I talk about asking ourselves what is needed for us to be the leader we want to be - now. This week on The Business of Healthcare: The importance of real advice from friends and colleagues. Why you don't have to do everything by yourself. Other people can help you see the things you can't. How advice can steer you in the right direction. The importance of using the expertise around you. Why you should ask yourself what the business requires of you. The importance of being the leader you need to be now. #159 Why you should revisit your plans
#159 Why you should revisit your plans Making goals for your work and home life can help give you direction of where you want to go. I've always made 12 month goals, but recently I've been able to plan further ahead and see the vision of my business for the next 3 years. Today I'm sharing why it's important to make goals, but also why it's important to remind yourself of your goals as you go, and to go back and review what you have achieved. I talk about how sometimes when you put the hard work in, you won't see the fruits of your labour until a few months time, but it will be worth it. I share how it's important to find the right pace to keep momentum and maintain it. And finally I talk about the importance of a 3 year vivid visions to help you understand where you want your business to go in the next 3 years in order to achieve it. "We've always planned for a 12 month cycle and it has worked for us – now it's – what do the next 3 years look like? And I'm really excited, I'm really motivated." Tara Humphrey This week on The Business of Healthcare: Why it's important to make goals. The importance of reminding yourself of your goals. Looking back and reviewing what you have achieved. Put the hard work in now, but be patient. How to find the right pace you are able to maintain. Sharing your goals to create accountability. The importance of a 3 year vivid vision. #157 Do not say No because you are scared
157 Do not say no because you are scared Welcome back to the business of healthcare podcast. I hope you guys are doing well. In this episode, I wanted to do a little bit of a re-introduction as we have new listeners, which is absolutely fab, and I also wanted to say thank you to our regular listeners, we love that you come back each week and spend your time listening to our Podcast. We launched in September, 2019 and at the time of recording, we have recorded well over 160 episodes and the show continues to grow. On Tuesdays on the Business of Healthcare Podcast, it is usually a solo episode where I'm just sharing what's going on behind the scenes, in my own health consultancy and we've also had a period of time where I've been listening back to some of my favourite episodes and then drawing out a short clip and then re sharing that and providing my commentary on either side. We did that because we've got such an archive of content. I think it's really important to revisit what we've already heard and what we already know, because we're not always consistently practicing it. It's not always about producing new content, sometimes it's about revisiting the discussions that's already been. On Thursdays, that is where I interview a healthcare leader and they share what goes on behind the scenes of their business and their leadership journey to date. The point and purpose of the show is to provide an informal space for you to hear from healthcare stars that you may not be aware of, and also to introduce you to just everyday leaders and their stories. In this weeks episode I discuss why not to say no because you are scared, I wanted to give you a real life example of how I let my imposter syndrome get in the way. I'm sure this has happened to many of us out there! This week on The Business of Healthcare: How I let my imposter syndrome get in the way Discussing your concerns with trusted friends/colleagues Sharing experiences Work with me I'm Tara Humphrey and I'm the founder of THC Primary Care, a leading healthcare consultancy. #156 A Sense of Responsibility to Speak Out with Cedi Frederick
#156 A Sense of Responsibility to Speak Out - with Cedi Frederick Welcome back to the Business of Healthcare Podcast – this episode is extremely, extremely special to me. I had the absolute pleasure of interviewing Cedi Frederick. Cedi is the Chair at NHS Middlesex University Hospital, he is an entrepreneur, a coach and mentor and he also sits as a Non Executive Director. Cedi's background is in both public and private sectors and for over 25 years held a chief executive level positions in housing associations, social care and organisations that support older people living with learning disabilities, autism and mental health problems. We had a very open and honest conversation around out of the 233 trusts that are currently here in the NHS, only 10 Chair positions are held by people from an ethnic minority background, we discussed our thoughts and feeling around this. It doesn't matter what colour you are or from what background, I truly feel it is a powerful discussion which everyone will benefit from hearing. This week on The Business of Healthcare: Who is Cedi Frederick I am not what I do When does our own wellbeing and sense of worth override financial responsibilities What needs to happen to increase the number of ethnic minorities in senior roles Being as good will not be good enough Connect with Cedi Frederick On LinkedIn On Twitter On Instagram Work with me I'm Tara Humphrey and I'm the founder of THC Primary Care, a leading healthcare consultancy.
