#180 Managing the Media in General Practice with Emma Wilkinson

Welcome back to The Business of Healthcare Podcast episode 180 where this week I am talking to Emma Wilkinson who is a Freelance Health Journalist, Editor and Teacher. We had a great discussion regarding Emma's journey to becoming a journalist, the impact of negative press and her journalistic values. We originally connected through Twitter after Emma had written a post which I thought raised a really balanced argument about what is going on with reporting in General Practice so I sent her a message and now she is a guest on my podcast. There is lots of detail to be taken from this weeks episode and it's great to have a conversation with Emma discussing what is going on in the field of healthcare. Also a great point we laughed about, do not be scared of journalists 🤣 How to connect with Emma Twitter Website This week on The Business of Healthcare: The journey to becoming a journalist Journalistic Values Impacts of Negative Press How to find your sources What Emma loves about Journalism Work with me I'm Tara Humphrey and I'm the founder of THC Primary Care, a leading healthcare consultancy. #179 Comparison & Fear of Missing Out

This week on The Business of Healthcare Podcast I discuss Comparison & Fear of Missing Out. It's something even the most confident of people can worry about and I have to remember that even with the best planning in the world, sometimes you then have to take a step back. We need to prioritise, think about the pressure to contribute and become better at saying no, it's not a bad thing. It's difficult trying to balance all the plates sometimes, but take a step back, breathe and look at the bigger picture. #176 Working Towards A Common Agenda with Alison Reid

Welcome back to The Business of Healthcare Podcast where this week I am talking to Alison Reid who is the CEO at Community Dental Services. What I really liked about this interview is that I don't share the interview questions with the guest in advance and Alison was just in my opinion, so clear in articulating the values, her culture compass, the focus for the next 18 months, her leadership style and I just thought I aspire to be able to communicate like that. There are excellent practical tips in this episode too which I am so grateful to be able to share with you all. "I think that's probably the one thing that shocked me most working much more directly with the dental provider was that I'd often heard the team refer to extractions and it's only when you actually go to a general anaesthetic session where a three year old is coming in to have all of their baby teeth removed, because they have become too decayed to be retained that you realise we've still got a serious problem in this country with understanding how to protect our teeth for the whole of our lives". #175 How to share what you do

Today on the business of healthcare podcast I have the pleasure in talking about - How do we share what we do? Referring also to a great book that I have read recently - Show your Work by Austin Kleon. Don't overthink it. Document what you are doing. Share the behind the scenes. #173 Are you prioritising your team?

This week on The Business of Healthcare Podcast I wanted to discuss the importance of making time to meet with your team even when you feel like there is no time. A few of the questions that I discuss 👇 What is the importance of getting more time to talk to get to know each other? What do you prioritise? When we come together as a team, I have some quick ways to kickstart the meeting, you can ask what is working well, what are we finding challenging at the moment? and how have we overcome these challenges? You could ask your team to share an example of how a colleague has supported them recently too. It really is huge making the commitment to prioritise your team and your business.
