S3 Eps 8 Young Hearts, Run Free x Tartan Running Shorts Kyle Greig - 2 July 2021
Some of you, like us, might listen to some other podcasts. You listen to some for a few episodes then drift away, others become mainstays in your favourites. One of John and Steven's favourites is the well established Tartan Running Shorts.
This weeks guest is co-host of the TRS podcast Kyle Greig. We've been chasing Kyle for a while now so are super chuffed at being able to welcome him along for a chat on Young Hearts, Run Free. Kyle certainly is a busy lad as you'll find out!
An uber accomplished runner with some eye wateringly good PB's Kyle progressed through the distances and is now amongst the cream of the crop of Scottish Ultra runners. He's represented GB and has proudly represented Scotland too. An elite, some might say, but Kyle remains firmly grounded and passes an hour or so entertaining us with tales of his running story, his proudest moments, juggling a hectic workload and how he's recently become both a proud Dad (again) and a proud Race Director.
We chat podcasting and how it's allowed us to connect with a whole new network of folk who inspire and motivate us to get the most we can out of running. We talk about the Moray Way Ultras series Kyle is Race Director of and how the pandemic has impacted on his debut races. And of course we find out about what Kyle is up to now, including how his training is ahead of his next Scotland vest at the Anglo Celtic Plate 100k in August.
In fact we cover a veritable sh*tload of stuff and have the usual laughs along the way, anyone for a TRS x YHRF Beer Mile Collab??!!
Tune in, zone out and listen to us chew the fat with the fella who is 16th on the UK all-time list for the 100k. The same guy who was bold enough to try to run his way into the world records with a 24hr treadmill attempt!

And once again get your ass along to one of the brilliant ultras that from part of the Moray Way Ultra Series. They are sure to become an absolute fixture in the Scottish Ultra calendar.

S3 Eps 7 Young Hearts, Run Free - How NOT to run a marathon with Sam Miller - 25 June 2021
Coming back at ya with another laugh filled episode! This week runnings answer to Ant & Dec are joined by Sam Miller. Sam likes to do things a little unconventionally. Before our catch up with Sam we visit 2 things happening this weekend that mean a fair bit to us.
First a wee race preview of the Western States Endurance Run which starts Sat 26 Jun over in California and second a wee bit of awareness raising for a previous guest. David Wallace (S1 Eps 6) is attempting a DOUBLE Ramsay Round in the Lochaber Munros this weekend. Raising funds while taking on this monumentally epic endurance feat.
But our main event! Sam Miller recently participated in the first road marathon on Scottish soil for over 18 months, the first post COVID lockdown get together. The Strathearn Marathon takes in some beautiful scenary as it snakes it's way around the country roads of rural Perthshire. Sam only realised he was due to be on the start line 3 weeks before.
Listen in as Sam enlightens us as to his unique approach to getting around 26.2 miles. We chart some of his past glories too, he's a man who likes to take on a challenge shall we say. In his own unique style Sam entertains us for the entire episode with a series of amusing tales from his 10 years of running. He'll maybe never win a race but, like us, the sheer satisfaction of completing drives Sam on to take on some mad cap challenges that many would turn their back on.
With the carrot of a footlong Meatball Marinara Subway being dangled drawing him towards the finish line come find out if Sam completed his Couch to 42k! Sam also asks you the listeners a question, what Ultra Marathon should be his first!?
Throw in a couple of our fav dialect dictionary entries so far and it's an episode not to miss!
Please visit our socials Twitter and Instagram to say hello and to leave your suggestions for Sam's Ultra Marathon to enter!!

S3 Eps 3 Young Hearts, Run Free - Not another FKT with James Stewart! - 21 May 2021
The power of 3!! James Stewart is back for Episode 3 of Season 3 for his 3rd Young Hearts Run 'Three' appearance!!
It's a welcome return to Croy's force of nature himself as James joins John & Steven to recount his most recent audacious Fastest Known Time (FKT) attempt.
The route targetted this time around was the iconic Fife Coastal Path. Starting in Kincardine and finishing some 116 miles later in Newburgh navigating the entire coastline of Fife, a stunner.
James lifts the lid on his prep, his (lack of) planning and then regails with brutal honesty how his day in Fife panned out. The highs, the lows, the ups, the downs and of course the folks who played a vital part in what turned out to be a memorable day in the Kingdom.
There are tips, there are stories, there are nuggets of inspiration. We can't thank James enough for again giving up his time to share his experience. Prepare yourself, in typical YHRF style, for some choice language and talk of Giant Wotsits.
