88. If I Had to Start Over, This Is What I Would Do

Once you've reached a particular phase in your business, the common question is, "If you had to start over, what would you do?"    I've been thinking lately about what I would do differently if I were to start my business again or If I was a student going through my LLB program. In this episode, I'm going to go down the list of all the different things that I kind of thought of what I would do differently, what I would do the same, then some things that are not necessarily bad or good that I did, but I think would need to be addressed differently.   In this episode, we cover… Building a business while having a 9-5, why I don't regret quitting my job and moving to Thailand Mastering your skills Building an audience, showing up & networking My opinion on starting a passive income The importance of niching down Mindset and clarity and defining your vision   "My number one focus would be building an audience. You can sit behind the scenes all day and perfect all of these things; you need to build foundations to scale the business, but I'm talking about, this is my day one that I'm talking to you about starting over on, and I would start building an audience."   "When many people hear my business story, they hear about my coaching business, and we grew, you know, to a million in two years and all this crazy stuff. We grew so fast. And then, when I talk about my design business, I was booked out in my first week of launching and made over 5k in my first month and continued to scale from there. It's all these sexy stories. But one of the bottom parts of the iceberg to those stories is that I had built a personal brand since the spring of 2008 very intentionally on Instagram."   "I had built a personal brand, where I showed up every day for an entire year before making a single dollar. Now that's because I wasn't trying to sell anything before. But it's also a huge reason I could sell things so fast because people knew and trusted me."   Thanks for listening, and if you like what you’ve heard, feel free to share this episode with your friends! 87. Risk vs Safety: It’s Time to Make BIG Moves

"The most dangerous place to be is an indecision." If you want significant results, you've got to make big moves; risk-taking and taking action! No matter what level of entrepreneurship you're at, if you are a six-figure business owner or considering leaving your 9-5 job to start a business, you will be assessing the risk of what it takes to achieve your goals.   In this episode, I want to unpack what taking risks means, what safety means, and how you can completely reframe how you look at taking risks.   In this episode, we cover… Living outside of your comfort zone Feeling into and moving past fear Understanding what is holding you back  Uncovering the narrative that is happening in your brain  Assessing risk The importance of being decisive    "When you're looking at your risk, you are most likely, in this example, only considering losing what we have now, which is the nine to five and the quote-unquote, stable income, right. But we're not considering the loss of what we could gain."   "You can always go back to where you are at now! You got here one way you can get here again, I didn't say it would be easy, but it is a possibility that exists in the universe."   Thanks for listening, and if you like what you’ve heard, feel free to share this episode with your friends! 86. My Untold Story: Tapping into your Power

As an entrepreneur, you get challenged, pushed, and folded in so many ways, so you can't really have all the conversations about entrepreneurship and being a CEO without talking about the person behind the company. In today's episode, I am getting vulnerable with you; I'm sharing something online that I have never publicly shared, and while it may not be the most lighthearted or fun episode, it's a compelling one. Trigger Warning: this episode speaks of mental health issues, suicide, abuse, and eating disorders.    In this episode, we cover… The power of choice How traumatic experiences affected my wellbeing Realizations from recovering from mental illness What trauma responses are The mission of entrepreneurship   'No matter where you've been, where your past has taken you, knowledge and experiences have shaped who you are and where you are today. They don't determine where you go next".    "Even if you have not necessarily been through some crazy shit, hopefully in life, we all struggle with confidence. We all struggle with self-doubt and impostor syndrome. And all of that gets amplified and brought up in entrepreneurship in a new way. Remembering your power of choice, tapping back into your voice and power is important in your success."   "It is my mission to help women go deep and understand the level of confidence that isn't only needed to build a business but to feel confident enough to leave bad situations to create your wealth. No one can ever take that away from you to go through the journey to create your happiness and your joy. So again, no one can take that away from you. And also to have this conversation in public." 84. How to Position Your Business as the High Level “Go-To” Brand in Your Niche

There are many go-to people in every nook and cranny of a specific type of market; there is probably at least one 'go-to' person that comes to mind in the niche or industry that is relevant to you. Today we're going to be talking about a whole different way of standing out and how to position yourself and position your business as a high-level, high-ticket, go-to brand in your industry.    In this episode, I will discuss a bunch of different strategies that, when combined, will impress people at every stage and build that unwavering 'go-to person' brand reputation.   In this episode, we cover… Highlighting your authority & positioning yourself  What a stand out factor is  What makes a person a go-to person Character traits to embody  Personal brand & likeability  Building a high-quality reputation    "There are many go-to people. Not everyone is a go-to person, right? There are many go-to people in every nook and cranny of a certain type of market that you have positioned yourself into and dominated. Still, I'm never going to compare a high-level luxury vibe designer to a designer that's known for like her playful template shop. And that's the corner of the market that she dominated. They can both be the go-to, but you have to decide intentionally how you're going to position yourself within the designer market, and then go and dominate that."   "No one is the go-to person that sits on the sidelines, and that sits on the bench, and that doesn't play, and that doesn't show up, right? The go-to person is visible. Everyone knows who they are. They're known for both their skill set and their execution in just this unmatched way that makes them, even when the competition knows about them.” Thanks for listening, and if you like what you’ve heard, feel free to share this episode with your friends! 83. 20+ Entrepreneurs Tell the Truth Behind Why Someone Is Going to Hire You vs Someone Else

Every time someone doesn't sign up with me, there is that thought in the back of my mind that wonders what the tipping point could have been? I know that this is the same for most people, and as much as I love some buyers psych, I wanted to share a different perspective on this topic.    I have recently done market research and interviewed over 20 multi six and seven-figure entrepreneurs to discuss why they hired coaches, mentors and purchased specific courses from people. I also asked why they hired certain 'done for you' people for their team? And what those deciding factors were. In this episode, I share with you the most common responses for all of these subjects and give you some actionable steps on how to stand out and be the most employable person in your industry.   In this episode, we cover… What matters most in the purchasing process Reflections on good and not so good hires  Why do people buy from a psychological perspective? Things that turn off buyers Actionable steps for standing out above your competitors "One of the biggest things that people mentioned was if someone is hard to track down, if they're not getting a response, or if they get a candid response, it's not very personal, it feels like you're not very interested or invested in them, that hands down for both coaching and done for you investments was a thing that immediately turned people off."   "So when we talk about future you and lifestyle, what people said is when they were considering hiring a coach or mentor, they loved for some people, they love their business model in particular, it was a business coach, so AKA they were looking for maybe if you were hiring someone who ran a course heavy business, they really liked that they saw that as their future self, their future way of operating their future business model. And they were looking for a coach or mentor that had something specific." Thanks for listening, and if you like what you’ve heard, feel free to share this episode with your friends! 82. So You Got Burned? Let’s Talk About It

I genuinely believe that many people have good intentions within this industry, so why have we gotten to this point where many people have lost trust in coaches, programs, and courses? Today, I intend to open up the conversation about having a bad experience with coaches or services providers who didn't meet expectations. I will discuss this from two perspectives, both as a seller and a buyer.    This is not a bitch fest but simply an open discussion that I hope will lead to improvement within the industry. I will reflect on three different areas; what's contributed to people getting burned, the impact this has had on the industry, and what we need to do to move forward.   In this episode, we cover… The industry 'hierarchy'- don't buy into it Industry secrets, do they exist? The downside about this industry getting busier The attraction to coaching The issue with pricing in an unregulated industry    I'm not claiming I'm perfect. But from day one, I will say on this point alone. Everywhere I've like traveled, I've tried to make an effort to meet people in this space. Like I don't see myself as better than any single one of my clients because I've made more money."   "This space has grown bigger, I mean, like more people than ever before. And faster than ever before, I would say, especially in the past year. There is still plenty of room. I genuinely believe this is only the beginning. But I also think that this like fast, and mass amount of growth has contributed to people getting burned specifically, you know, whether out of good or bad intentions, there became more and more marketing more and more noise, making it like harder in a process to distinguish the difference among everyone in the space that you may be as a consumer are considering hiring." 79. Becoming a Great Leader with Jen Hartmann

No matter what stage of business you're at, you've probably at some point questioned yourself when there had been uncertainty around the outcomes of situations. You may have even observed and replicated the actions of others in your industry or have had times where you have had to lean into self-trust to make decisions.    Today I will be talking with Jen Hartmann, the CEO of a boutique marketing consultancy. Jen helps startups and global brands increase their visibility, boost website conversions and drive revenue through innovative marketing strategies! Over the past two years, Jen has run a coaching business, an agency, and an e-commerce Store. In this episode, we will be breaking down a bunch of these topics and discussing how they link up with good leadership.  In this episode, we cover…   How Jen took the plunge from her 9-5 to entrepreneurship The key differences between running a coaching business, eCommerce business, and an agency  Trusting yourself with big decisions  What makes a good leader Dealing with your internal dialogue when it comes to showing up as a leader   "As an entrepreneur and as a leader, you have to take risks. The more risks you take, the more of a tolerance to risk you build, which makes you a much better leader over time. If you were so risk-averse, you are never going to be the best leader that you can possibly be."   "Being a great leader is knowing when to shut up and just letting people talk. It's being able to take a step back and close your mouth, let other people in the room contribute to the conversation, or learn how to ask great questions to pull the best out of the people around you."   "You don't always have to talk to fill a space in a room. You can let other people contribute. I think that's what makes a great leader. Also, feedback from your team or your clients is critical. Many people are afraid of that feedback because they're so afraid it will be negative, which then really hits you in the ego. But as a leader, if you're a great leader, you're open to feedback, and you're open to making changes based on feedback."   Thanks for listening, and if you like what you’ve heard, feel free to share this episode with your friends!
