Gruden's emails, an impending NFL legal disaster & 3 teams we're worried about
Everyone knows the headline by now. On Monday evening, after a plethora of disgusting & offensive emails were leaked, first by the Wall Street Journal, and later by the New York Times, Las Vegas Raiders head coach Jon Gruden abruptly resigned, likely never to hold a significant position in or around the NFL ever again.Charles Robinson is joined by NBC's Michael Smith to discuss the aftermath of this seismic blow to one of the league's most storied franchises and iconic coaches. A few questions still linger: if the Raiders received these emails on Friday, why was this information sat on until the Times leaked it? What league figures could be implicated in future leaks?Charles & Michael discuss those issues as well as one more: why the NFL should be scared about how these email leaks may play into its ongoing legal troubles in St. Louis & Oakland after the Rams & Raiders respectively left town.Later in the show, the guys talk about ESPN adding a wild card game to their Monday Night Football slate & Michael's unhealthy Madden obsession. In the second half, Charles & Michael break down the three teams they're worried about most in the NFL & as well as the one NFC team every other squad should be afraid of in January. Week 5 Sunday Night Freestyle: Bills claim revenge for AFC title loss, Chargers prove they may be best in west
The second lightning storm in the AFC West this week wasn't going to stop the Buffalo Bills from claiming pole position for the 1-seed. The Bills came into Arrowhead, where they were defeated last January and put a number on the Kansas City Chiefs and made the case that they are the best team in not only the AFC, but perhaps the league.Charles Robinson & Frank Schwab react to all of the games from Sunday's Week 5 action including the aforementioned Bills/Chiefs rematch, a nail biting Green Bay Packers win over a surprisingly resilient Cincinnati Bengals team, an epic Browns/Chargers duel and an Atlanta Falcons win in London that saw the Dirty Birds finally unlock rookie TE Kyle Pitts.Stay up to date with the latest NFL news and coverage from Yahoo Sports on Twitter @YahooSportsNFL.Follow Charles @CharlesRobinsonPlease support Terez Paylor's legacy by supporting the Terez A. Urban Meyer's folly delights league & the impact of the Stephon Gilmore trade
By now, we've all seen the video of Urban Meyer getting cozy with a woman at his bar in Ohio, the night after his Jacksonville Jaguars suffered a Thursday night loss to the Cincinnati Bengals. It's not great. Even worse, Meyer spent the following days sheepishly apologizing for his behavior, invoking his grandchildren, making comparisons to Trevor Lawrence's bachelor party. Overall, it was not a good look — and the 31 other teams in the NFL absolutely loved it.Charles Robinson is joined by none other than Yahoo's Dan Wetzel this week to break down why this is such an unforced embarrassment by the football's king of moralizing: Urban Meyer.Later in the podcast, Charles & Dan react to the Wednesday morning news of the New England Patriots sending former defensive player of the year Stephon Gilmore to the Carolina Panthers, who are clearly going all-in on an already stout defense. They also discuss the Dallas Cowboys parting ways with linebacker Jaylon Smith. To wrap up the show, the guys preview the Buffalo Bills & Kansas City Chiefs facing off in an AFC championship rematch, a battle between two up-and-coming teams in the Los Angeles Chargers and Cleveland Browns and if the Arizona Cardinals can pull off their fifth win of the season against the San Francisco 49ers.Stay up to date with the latest NFL news and coverage from Yahoo Sports on Twitter @YahooSportsNFL.Follow Charles @CharlesRobinsonPlease support Terez Paylor's legacy by supporting the Terez A. Week 4 Sunday Night Freestyle: Brady outlasts Pats in the rain, Cards make case as best in the west
Charles Robinson is joined by Frank Schwab to recap all of the games from Sunday's Week 4 slate. Tom Brady pulled out an emotional win over his former New England Patriots in a rainy, sloppy affair that concluded with a Nick Folk field goal ricocheting off a goal post. The Arizona Cardinals upset the Los Angeles Rams on the road and made the case that they may not only be the best team in the NFC West, but the entire league. They also chat about the New York Jets and Giants pulling off their first win of the season, whether Jimmy Garoppolo will start another game for the San Francisco 49ers and if Taylor Heinicke is the answer at QB for the Washington Football Team.Stay up to date with the latest NFL news and coverage from Yahoo Sports on Twitter @YahooSportsNFL.Follow Charles @CharlesRobinsonPlease support Terez Paylor's legacy by supporting the Terez A. Inside the Brady/Belichick beef & why every rookie QB is hitting a wall
News flash: Tom Brady is returning to Foxboro this week. Maybe you've heard about it. In light of the NFL's game of the week and a revealing new book from Seth Wickersham on the rise and fall of the Kraft/Brady/Belichick era, Charles Robinson welcomes Boston native Pete Thamel onto the podcast this week to react to the book's outlandish stories and preview the weekend's Bucs/Pats game.Later in the show, we lean on Pete's expertise in the college landscape to answer three major questions: why are all of this year's freshman QBs struggling? Looking ahead to next year, who are the college QBs NFL fans should be keeping an eye on before the April 2022 draft? And which college coaches are primed to make the leap to the NFL and find success a la Carolina's Matt Rhule?Stay up to date with the latest NFL news and coverage from Yahoo Sports on Twitter @YahooSportsNFL.Follow Charles @CharlesRobinsonPlease support Terez Paylor's legacy by supporting the Terez A. Week 3 Sunday Night Freestyle: Are Matthew Stafford and Derek Carr MVP candidates?
While the likes of Aaron Rodgers, Josh Allen, Derek Carr and Matthew Stafford kept the QB play at peak level this week, one might argue the key moments of Week 3 were all the results of field goal kicking.Charles Robinson and Frank Schwab react to all fourteen games from Sunday Week 3 action, including Mason Crosby's game winner in San Francisco, Justin Tucker's NFL-record FG in Detroit and the amazing 109-yard return in Jacksonville, the result of a missed 68-yarder from Arizona's Matt Prater.Charles & Frank also debate where the aforementioned Stafford and Carr fall in the MVP race, whether Big Ben Roethlisberger should be benched, if Kansas City and Seattle fans should be worried and the abysmal play from both New York franchises.Stay up to date with the latest NFL news and coverage from Yahoo Sports on Twitter @YahooSportsNFL.Follow Charles @CharlesRobinsonPlease support Terez Paylor's legacy by supporting the Terez A. What Aaron Rodgers gets right and wrong about his critics & why Bezos should own a London NFL franchise
After an embarrassing Week 1 loss to the New Orleans Saints, Aaron Rodgers had his critics. He was soft after a summer of vacationing with movie stars and hosting Jeopardy! He looked uninterested on the sidelines! His man-bun was a symbol of his waning manliness and interest in football!Rodgers had some thoughts for his detractors after a solid eighteen-point win over the Lions on Monday night. Charles Robinson welcomes Dan Wetzel onto the podcast this week to talk about why Rodgers is and isn't right to call his critics, "chickens**t," and the precarious state of the athlete-media relationship.Later in the show, Charles & Dan chat about Tom Brady's upcoming trip to Foxboro, Mass. as the Buccaneers face Brady's old Patriots in a week and a half. Could Brady have won a Super Bowl with this iteration of a Patriots roster? Would New England fans trade a still effective Brady for the next 15 years of Mac Jones' career? In the latter half of the episode, Charles answers a pair of questions about NFL ownership. First, what's the latest on the lawsuit between the city of St. Louis and the NFL regarding the relocation of the Rams? Could this sway future teams from changing cities? After that, rumors of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos being interested in purchasing the Denver Broncos turns into an amazing hypothesis: Bezos would be the perfect owner for an NFL London expansion franchise.Stay up to date with the latest NFL news and coverage from Yahoo Sports on Twitter @YahooSportsNFL.Follow Charles @CharlesRobinsonPlease support Terez Paylor's legacy by supporting the Terez A. Faced with a 4th and one near midfield with a one-point lead, Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens had two choices: punt the ball and give Patrick Mahomes about a minute to win the game, or go for it and ice the Kansas City Chiefs.
