Who does AI output belong to? With IP & Media Law Attorney Franklin Graves
In this episode, I was joined by IP, tech, and media law expert, Franklin Graves. We talked focused on two super-interesting and relevant topics:
1. A recent lawsuit filed against Meta (including Instagram, Facebook), Snap Inc., ByteDance and TikTok, and Alphabet Inc./Google/YouTube, about the mental health impacts of social media on youth. Franklin wrote a blog post about this on his blog, Creator Economy Law.
You can track the lawsuit here.
2. Everyone is talking about AI. Everyone is *using* AI, so the big question is: who does all this AI-generated output belong to? Can you copyright it? Is it infringing someone else's copyright if you use it? We deep-dived into these very relevant questions.

Market Design: Bridging Tech and Humanity with Prof. Scott Kominers
This episode is long overdue (we recorded 8+ weeks ago!) but I enjoyed talking to Scott so much that we recorded for almost 2 hours - hence, editing was a nightmare!
Scott is brilliant and has so many varied interests that I could have gone on talking to him all day.
In this episode, we talked about Scott's work applying market design principles to make the process of obtaining kidney donors more efficient, Scott's passion for tech and crypto, and his teaching at HBS. Enjoy!

AI & Privacy Unmasked with Avishai Ostrin - Balancing Innovation and Confidentiality
Since the GDPR came into force in 2018, privacy has become an integral part of any technology, new or old and AI is no different.
In this episode, I discuss some of the important privacy aspects of ChatGPT and other AI tools, together with Avishai Ostrin, Director of Advisory Services at Privacy Team.
This isn't the first time Avishai and I have combined forces. We co-authored an article about blockchain and privacy last year, titled:
Privacy on the Blockchain — What role does privacy play in a world where nobody is ‘doxxed’?
At the beginning of the episode [___], we discussed a case where someone asked ChatGPT for information about himself, and due to false information on the web, where the AI was drawing its data from, the AI said he was dead. The gentleman is actually a computer scientist and leading privacy technologist who helped develop Europe's GDPR and ePrivacy rules by the name of Alexander Hanff and he wrote an article all about it, with his take on ChatGPT, at least from a privacy perspective, here: https://www.theregister.com/2023/03/02/chatgpt_considered_harmful/
Enjoy!
UPDATE: Since recording this episode (just a few days ago - to give you an idea as to the speed that things are moving),
ChatGPT resumed service in Italy - https://techcrunch.com/2023/04/28/chatgpt-resumes-in-italy/
