Lebanese Prof. Asad AbuKhalil On Israel/Lebanon, Convicted Activist Omali Yeshitela Calls Out Biden

Watch the full conversation with Asad AbuKhalil here on Syria, meeting Nasralla and more: https://www.patreon.com/posts/omali-yeshitela-117262666
Lebanese-American Political science professor Asad AbuKhalil talks about Israel's U.S.-backed genocidal war on the people of Palestine, Lebanon and Syria. He also shares memories of interviewing the slain Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah. AbuKhalil also reflects on the elections and the difference (or lack thereof) between Joe Biden and Donald Trump when it comes to foreign policy.
But first Omali Yeshitela, the founder of the African People's Socialist Party (APSP) and Uhuru Movement discusses why he and two other members of Uhuru have been convicted of conspiring to act as unregistered Russian agents, in an outrageous miscarriage of justice and a McCarthyite attack on free speech. Given that Joe Biden has pardoned his own son, something he promised not to do, he might as well pardon people who actually deserve it, like Leonard Peltier, Mumia Abu Jamal, Julian Assange, and the Uhuru Movement members, including Omali Yeshitela. He should of course also pardon anyone serving jail for the crimes committed by Hunter.
Born in Tyre, Lebanon, Asad AbuKhalil received his BA and MA in political science from the American University of Beirut, and his PhD in comparative politics from Georgetown University. He is the author of Historical Dictionary of Lebanon, Bin Laden, and The Battle for Saudi Arabia, among other titles, and his articles on Middle Eastern politics and culture have appeared in publications throughout the world. AbuKhalil lives in California, where he is a professor of political science at California State University, Stanislaus.
Omali Yeshitela is the founder of the African People's Socialist Party (APSP) and Uhuru Movement. In 1968 Chairman Yeshitela founded The Burning Spear newspaper which is still published today. He has authored numerous articles, pamphlets and books. Chairman Omali made “reparations a household word” with the International Tribunal on Reparations for African People which was held in Brooklyn, New York in 1982, finding that African people are owed 4.1 trillion dollars for stolen labor in the U.S. alone. The Chairman founded the International People’s Democratic Uhuru Movement in 1991 as a revolutionary mass organization to defend the democratic rights of the African working class. Today, Chairman Omali Yeshitela, as the leader of the African Socialist International, speaks to his growing base around the world and leads the worldwide movement for the liberation of Africa and African people everywhere.

Journalist Thomas Frank and historian Matt Karp discuss how Kamala Harris lost. But first, Palestinian Youth Movement organizer Lea Kayali talks about the "Mask Off Maersk" campaign which seeks to cut ties with one of the world’s largest shipping and logistics companies that directly ships weapons and weapons components that facilitate Israel’s genocide against the Palestinian people.
Thomas Frank is an American political analyst, historian, and journalist. He co-founded and edited The Baffler magazine and is the author of the books
"What's the Matter with Kansas? How Conservatives Won the Heart of America," "Listen, Liberal: Or, What Ever Happened to the Party of the People?", "The People, No: A Brief History of Anti-Populism," among others. From 2008 to 2010 he wrote "The Tilting Yard", a column in The Wall Street Journal.
Matthew Karp is an Associate Professor of History at Princeton University and the author of "This Vast Southern Empire: Slaveholders at the Helm of American Foreign Policy," (Harvard University Press). Karp is now at work on two books, both under contract with Farrar, Straus, & Giroux."Millions of Abolitionists: The Republican Party and the Political War on Slavery," is about the emergence of American antislavery mass politics. His other book is a meditation on the politics of U.S. history, and explores the ways that narratives of the American experience both serve and shape different ideological ends — in the nineteenth century, the twentieth century, and today. Karp is a contributing editor for Jacobin. His work has also appeared in The Nation, The Boston Review, and The London Review of Books.
Lea Kayali is an organizer with the Palestinian Youth Movement (PYM), a transnational, independent, grassroots movement of young Palestinians and Arabs in diaspora. She is currently organizing with the PYM’s Mask Off MAERSK campaign, which aims to expose the logistics giant’s role in facilitating the genocide of Palestinians in Gaza.

Jewish Tenured Prof Maura FInkelstein FIRED Over Tweet, Rami Younis on his Banned Documentary
Watch more on patreon: https://www.patreon.com/thekatiehalpershow
Katie is joined by Maura Finkelstein a tenured Jewish professor of Anthropology at Muhlenberg College fired over an Instragram repost about Zionism. Then Katie talks to Rami Younis, a Palestinian writer, journalist, activist and co-director of "Lyd," a science fiction documentary he co-directed about the once-thriving Palestinian city of Lyd. Rami reacts to Israel's recent decision to ban the film.
Maura Finkelstein is a writer, ethnographer, and associate professor of anthropology. She is the author of The Archive of Loss: Lively Ruination in Mill Land Mumbai, published by Duke University Press in 2019. Her writing has also been published in Anthological Quarterly, City and Society, Cultural Anthropology, Anthropology Now, Post45, Electric Literature, Allegra Lab, Red Pepper Magazine, The Markaz Review, the Scottish Left Review, Mondoweiss, and Al Jazeera. She has been nominated for a Pushcart (2021), was a finalist for the Witness literary award (2022), was a Tin House Scholar (2023), and was recently the recipient of the 2024 New Directions Award from the General Anthropology Division (GAD) of the American Anthropological Association.
Rami Younis is a Palestinian filmmaker, writer, journalist and activist from Lyd. He was a 2019-20 Fellow at the Harvard Divinity School. As a journalist, he mainly wrote for the online magazine +972 and served as both writer and editor of its Hebrew sister site, “local call”, a journalistic project he co-founded, designed to challenge Israeli mainstream journalism outlets. Rami served as a parliamentary consultant and media spokesperson for Palestinian member of Knesset (Israeli parliament) Haneen Zoabi. Rami is also co-founder and manager of the first ever “Palestine Music Expo”: an event that connects local Palestinian music scene to the world wide industry. Younis was the host of the Arabic-language daily news show, “On the Other Hand."
Lyd is a feature-length, sci-fi documentary that shares multiple pasts, presents, and futures of the city of Lyd in Palestine/Israel. From the perspective of the city herself, voiced by Palestinian actress Maisa Abd Elhadi, the viewer is guided through the lifespan of a five-thousand-year-old city and its residents. Lyd was once a thriving Palestinian city with a rich history. In 636AD, It was even considered the first capital of Palestine. When the State of Israel was founded in 1948, Lyd became an Israeli city, and in the process, hundreds of Lyd’s Palestinian residents were massacred by Israeli forces, and most of the city’s 50,000 Palestinian residents were exiled. Today, the city has a Jewish Israeli majority and a Palestinian minority and is disinvested and divided by racism and violence. For Palestinians, Lyd’s story is a painful and tragic fall from grace, which is why the film dares to ask the question: what would the city be like had the Israeli occupation of Lyd never happened?
