Think of pirates and there’s a great chance that the first image that comes to your mind is a Blackbeard look alike : a cruel captain with a long beard and a hat, thirsty for blood, yelling at his men from the upper deck of his ship as he prepares to board an unfortunate merchant’s boat. Well, this has been the image of Blackbeard, alias Edward Teach, over the centuries.
