Interview with Stacy Jones (American Hi-Fi, Letters to Cleo, Atwater Punx, etc)

We had the pleasure of interviewing Stacy Jones (American Hi-Fi, Letters to Cleo, Atwater Punx, etc) over Zoom video! Please share while we are #togetherathome 🏠 A blood-pumping hybrid of late-70's British punk and 90's alt-rock, Atwater Punx is defined by the music that inspires husband and wife duo, Stacy Jones and Kristen Wagner Jones. The songs are the first collaboration of its kind for the couple who have spent the entirety of their careers creating music apart. After the birth of their son, Waylon, the time finally felt right to team up sonically. Spending toddler nap times and post-bedtime putdowns in their home studio, they began to craft a new set of songs that encompassed their love for bands like The Clash and Bikini Kill. While Stacy, a full- time drummer and in-demand musical director for artists like Miley Cyrus, 5 Seconds of Summer and Troye Sivan, was filling his days with show production and rehearsals, Kristen had switched gears from fronting her indie band, Bullet & Snowfox, to life as a stay-at-home mom. The two would chip away at new tunes whenever feasible, but when Coronavirus hit and the world came to a grinding halt, the couple finally found the time and inspiration to hunker down and finish the songs that had become a true labor of love. The result is their debut EP 'The Flea Draws Blood.' MORE ON STACY JONES Stacy Jones got his start as the frontman and main songwriter for American Hi-Fi, who had the 2001 hit "Flavor of the Weak." After the peak of the American Hi-Fi days, his career took the most unlikely of turns into being a touring and studio drummer and a Music Director. Thirteen years in Jones is one of the most in-demand music directors in his field - working with chart-topping artists like Miley Cyrus, Noah Cyrus, 5 Seconds of Summer, the Chainsmokers and Troye Sivan among others. In addition to the MD work, he still works as a drummer, writer, musician, producer (Bob Rock was his mentor) and tours consistently. He is an active member of his band'S American Hi-Fi, and Letters to Cleo, has been the touring drummer for Matchbox Twenty since 2012, and even has a great story about recording vocals with Mötley Crüe. Last year he did double duty on the Letters to Cleo fall tour, opening with his band American Hi-Fi then playing drums with the headlining act, Letters to Cleo. He has a great routine and story about getting into shape for that tour. STACY JONES ADDITIONAL DRUMMING CREDITS: Madonna, Ariana Grande, Everclear, Avril Lavigne, Joan Jett, The Jonas Brothers, Billy Ray Cyrus, The Flaming Lips, Lily Allen, Cobra Starship, Sheryl Crow, The Cab, Hey Monday, Veruca Salt, Dia Frampton, Aimee Mann, Butch Walker, The Dollyrots and more. https://www.instagram.com/atwaterpunx https://www.instagram.com/kristenaelaine https://www.instagram.com/stacyglenjones We want to hear from you! The rangy, sweeping vocals required led Dorff's father and the song's producer, Steve Dorff on an eight-year quest to find the right artist capable of singing the emotional song. Interview with Emma Zander

We had the pleasure of interviewing Emma Zander over the phone! Please share while we are #togetherathome 🏠 Emma's an incredible alt-pop singer/songwriter, actress, and activist who's been featured on MTV, Entertainment Tonight and Refinery 29. On June 25th, she's released her new single "America's Favorite Tranquilizer". "America's Favorite Tranquilizer" is a bold, quirky anthem for the disillusioned. The song is a tale about everything we use to numb ourselves: from Netflix, to weed, to social media, to binge eating, to sex. Left to our own devices and quarantined with our own thoughts and vices, we've leaned on our "tranquilizers" now more than ever. Emma finished recording the song in her bathroom after the LA lockdown was put in place, and the corresponding video was filmed completely in quarantine, using dollar store props. It even features a surprise "cameo" from Harry Styles. Emma Zander sings about what it means to be a twenty-something right now. Born & raised in NY, Zander moved to the West Coast to pursue music after graduating NYU Tisch for Musical Theatre. Her introspective songwriting & ethereal vocals have garnered major attention in the EDM world, as she performed at and even wrote the theme song for Electric Daisy Carnival Vegas. Zander's music has also been featured on MTV, USA, Entertainment Tonight, & Refinery29. As a featured vocalist and top-line writer, Zander has appeared on the Corporate Slackers' Wasted Love (Tiesto's Musical Freedom), & Bryce Vine's rap track, Bella, hailing over 15 million streams & counting. But it's her own edgy pop records & self-produced videos that truly solidify her identity as an artist -- and a powerful female voice of her generation. https://www.facebook.com/EmmaZanderMusic https://www.instagram.com/emmazander https://twitter.com/emmazandermusic We want to hear from you! Interview with Baby FuzZ

We had the pleasure of interviewing Baby FuzZ (Brandon Lowry aka Sterling Fox) over the phone! Please share while we are #togetherathome 🏠 Baby FuzZ is the audiovisual glam rock and " normcore" brainchild of produce and sing writer Sterling Fox. After producing Lan Del Rey's "Video Games," Fox was on his way to becoming one of the most in-demand and successful pop songwriters in the business having written with and for artists Madonna, Max Martin, Elle King, Avicii, Lana Del Rey, Britney Spears and more (see the full list HERE). Upon the election of Donald Trump, and at the peak of Fox's songwriting career he disappeared from music and split for Canada, spending a year in Montreal, reemerging as Baby FuzZ. Baby FuzZ unapologetically jumps all over the genre map, with songs ranging from folk ballads to punk anthems and everything in between. As diverse as the music is, the lyrics are a singular and hyper self-aware narrative with strong political and social undertones. Last year Baby FuzZ, released his debut album Plastic Paradise independently and embarked on a 100 date DIY tour around the US. Last year was just the start for Baby FuzZ rising from the death rattle of a previous life of overthought pop demos hat had finally eaten itself alive with a sense of ennui. "Weekend Blues" from his forthcoming concept album Welcome To The Future. The song is a wild mariachi influenced pop jam written from the point of view of a lonely person who goes to a party and dissects the universe in their head instead of having fun. Interview with Bad Cop Bad Cop

We had the pleasure of interviewing Jennie Cotterill of Bad Cop Bad Cop over the phone! Please share while we are #togetherathome 🏠 Bad Cop/Bad Cop released their third full-length, The Ride, on June 19! In a time of chronic rage, happiness is revolutionary. Bad Cop Bad Cop has done angry. The band's 2017 full-length, Warriors, was recorded in the aftermath of the 2016 presidential election. The Los Angeles quartet's new full-length, The Ride (Fat Wreck Chords, June 19th), shows what happens when you come out the other side of that anger. "It's not that I am just stoked or blind to suffering," says singer-guitarist Jennie Cotterill. "I think anger is a legitimate and understandable reaction to injustice and wrongdoing. It's just that for myself, I am trying to move past 'reaction' into productive 'response.'" The message BCBC is sending this time around is less about wagging your finger at others, or giving the middle one to the Man, than it is about self-love and acceptance. As Cotterill puts it, "Love is a more powerful truth than anger." That positivity fuels many of The Ride's tracks: "Originators," "Simple Girl," "Community," "I Choose," "Perpetual Motion Machine," and "The Mirage" exude confidence, gratitude, and compassion. In 2020, such things qualify as contrarian. "These are political statements—self-love is a huge fucking statement," affirms singer-guitarist Stacey Dee. "Self-love means putting a fix on the problems at home before trying to fix everything in the world. It's asking people to find it in themselves to create the life that they really want to have so they're not in turmoil, so they're not in a place of stress and sickness." Dee speaks from experience. In 2018 she was hospitalized twice for different ailments, then discovered she had stage one breast cancer at the end of the year. Fortunately, it was highly treatable, but the experience was life-altering. Dee captures it with brutal frankness on "Breastless," whose bright melodies belie the struggle described in the lyrics. "Certain Kind of Monster" and "Pursuit of Liberty"—both written and sung by bassist Linh Le—are blistering repudiations of the current administration's treatment of immigrants. The former is an imagined conversation with an ICE agent, and the latter juxtaposes her family's immigration to the U.S. from Vietnam in 1975 to current events, something she's never explored musically. The perspective behind The Ride lends it an undeniable maturity, without losing its power. Recorded throughout much of 2018 and 2019 by Johnny Carey and Fat Mike of production team the D-Composers, the album boasts all of the elements of BCBC's sound: big guitars, lock-step bass and drums (the latter by powerhouse drummer Myra Gallarza), intricate vocal harmonies, and plenty of attitude. It's just that this time, the attitude is encouraging, not raging. Nowhere is that more apparent than lilting album closer "Sing With Me." Built around acoustic guitar, piano, and Cotterill's voice, it's an exhortation to "sing with me / or sing your own song / I don't mind, just as long as you find / a voice." Dee adds, "If people are listening to our songs and they're going to sing along to them, they're going to start owning some of those words. And in owning some of those words that gives them some strength and power going forward. That's really the biggest gift that I could give to anybody." "Stronger in every way" aptly describes Bad Cop Bad Cop in 2020. The anger may have taken a back seat on The Ride, but what's taken its place is even more powerful. The Ride track listing: 1. Originators 2. Certain Kind of Monsters 3. Take My Call 4. Simple Girl 5. Breastless 6. Perpetual Motion Machine 7. Community 8. Pursuit of Liberty 9. The Mirage 10. I Choose 11. Chisme 12. Sing With Me We want to hear from you!
